Powerful DSP engine that can be configured to suit a wide range of tasks without the need for additional equipment. From processing input sources, routing, and output DSP that can fine tune the sound of any speaker. Everything you need is right there. These can route into Zones A-D and then into the 4 outputs.

4-channel DSP configuration including:

  • Input processing
  • Zone processing
  • Output processing
  • Speaker processing
  • Device settings

The FX Series is capable of handling a variety of applications, such as:

  • Multi-zone music distribution for retail and restaurant/bar
  • Noise masking for offices and medical facilities
  • Media playback for hotel lobbies, retail, and museum kiosks
  • Mobile sound

The FX DSP engine provides a rich selection of functions for getting the most out of your system. Here’s what you get with the FX onboard DSP:

  • Dashboard: status display, level control, and metering for Zones A-D
  • Inputs: Gain/Trim, Sensitivity
  • Zones: source select, mono/stereo, level control, and metering as well as GPIO assignment and Compressor for Zones A-D
  • Outputs: Routing (from Zones A-D), Delay (up to 100ms), 10-bands of fully parametric EQ for outputs 1 through 4
  • Speaker presets: Save/Load/Select from Library, Custom: X-over and Gain, 11-band speaker EQ (fully parametric), FIR filter import, Speaker alignment delay (up to 10ms), Polarity, Limiter (Clip, Peak, and RMS), and Output mode (Low/Hi-Z)
  • Settings: System and Device info, Backup and Restore, Speaker Preset Library, Power Management (standby/sleep, auto/manual), GPIO settings, LAN, and Wi-Fi

The amplifier provides 4 mic/line inputs, so you get the power of a 4-input mixer, zone matrix, plus output and speaker processing. With all that, FX can be a true “one-box” solution for many applications.

  • To control FX’s powerful DSP, you’ll find its user-friendly software interface that offers an intuitive workflow and easy access to FX’s most advanced functions. A webpage-like directory on the left-hand side of the UI keeps all necessary functions clearly visible and accessible at all times. No multi-page layering, no right-click or hidden menus, and no getting “lost in the weeds”.
  • FX Dashboard: Quickly see the amp’s status displayed, along with Zone controls. The directory then takes you through the signal flow from Inputs to Zones to Outputs, followed by general settings—easy and simple.
  • Create, save, and load speaker presets to accommodate virtually any loudspeaker. These can be loaded independently per channel, so different speakers may be used for different zones, or satellites and subs may be used for a bar or auditorium.
  • The FX UI screens are well laid out, with consistent controls from page to page that are informative and easy to read. All device information and operations are at your fingertips. From input / output settings and remote assignments to power and IP.

  • Rather than being tethered to a PC with an installed app, FX can be accessed anytime, anywhere with almost any browser-enabled device. FX software provides easy viewing and control from virtually any PC, tablet, or smartphone, regardless of OS. No software to install (it’s built into the FX unit). Just connect using the Ethernet port or built-in Wi-Fi and you’re ready to rock & roll. The Wi-Fi connection allows secure ID and password protection from unauthorized use and for more advanced users, Ethernet allows custom IP settings for use on a more complex wired LAN.
  • The browser-based network interface also makes remote service and troubleshooting easier. A technician can simply log in with remote access from their PC or mobile device and without needing to download or install any software.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi hotspot for directly connecting to an FX amp:
    • Connect from any PC or mobile device with a browser
    • Peer-to-peer connectivity. No additional network hardware needed
    • Simply find FX on your device as an “available” network and select
    • Log in using secure WEP ID/PW
    • You’re connected
  • Get even more functionality with a router/gateway:
    • You can also set an FX unit as a client for use with a DHCP router
    • Remote access to on-site units for service and troubleshooting
    • Easier management of multiple units in a system
    • Access to software updates and preset library downloads
    • FX may also be used on a wired LAN with either a DHCP or static IP address

  • FX can change gears to work for whatever type of speakers your system requires. Its multi-mode operation with switchable Low-Z (2/4/8 ohms & 25V) or Hi-Z (70/100V) can be selected in software, so you can mix and match speaker types as needed.
  • Each channel of the amplifier can operate at Low-Z mode or be bridged for 70/100V constant voltage output by selecting the appropriate output mode in the DSP software on each channel.
  • The SPDIF digital I/O may be used to connect other compatible equipment or may be used to bridge two FX amplifiers and digitally expand the system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the power adapter support auto-voltage as 110v-220v?

A: The power adaptor that is included with the unit supplies the 12VDC needed for unit to work. Most products like this one, made in China allow for international power (110-230v)

Q: 2. Can this be powered with a Vmount battery or something like that?

A: The Mackie HM-4 4-Way Headphones Amplifier (B&H # MAHM4) would not be natively compatible with V-mount batteries. The combination below should work, but it has not been tested: SmallRig VB99 Pro Mini V-Mount Battery (BH # SM4292) Hawk-Woods D-Tap Male to DC 2.5mm (11.8""), B&H # HAPC12

Q: 3. Will this amp play all cds in multi-channel stereo.I notice it does not decode like 5.1 receivers.I am looking to upgrade my sound system. Will it sound better then the sony STR-1080 set to (multi channel stereo) with decent speakers?I dont have much experience with sound systems.THANKS,JOE.

A: This is a stereo amplifier (2 channel only) So with two speakers connected it will sound the same or slightly better than the SONY with just two speakers connected. it will not offer you any simulated surround effect as the SONY might.

Q: 4. What is the maximum delay on an output channel? The block diagram shows 21 ms but that seems like a typo.

A: In the manufacturer's specifications for the Ashly Protea 4.8SP - 4 Input, 8 Output Digital Speaker Processor, the user manual lists 1.46ms as the spec for propagation delay and 0 to 682ms as the spec for input and output delay. This information is shown on page 14: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/882193.pdf

Q: 5. My speakers can be bi-amped. Can I do this with this amp.

A: You could bi-amp two speakers with this amplifier, using the second speaker zone as well as the first.

Q: 6. Is this essentially the same unit as the S801, but without the DAC/USB?

A: That is correct. The DAC supports a higher bit rate and DSD.

Q: 7. I have a set of 8 ohm speakers and a set of 6 ohm speakers I want to use at the same time.Do I set the impedence selecter to low or high? Thanks,Joe.

A: Set the impedance switch to "LOW"

Q: 8. Previous answer about 15" speakers inadequate. Would this unit support Pioneer CS-99A speakers?

A: Thank you for supplying the brand and model number of this speaker. DESCRIPTION: Pioneer CS-99A Speakers...1973-1980 Specifications Type: 5 way, 6 driver loudspeaker system Frequency Response: 25Hz to 22kHz Power Handling: 100W Crossover Frequency: 800, 2000, 5000, 1000Hz Impedance: 8Ω Sensitivity: 97dB This integrated Yamaha amplifier will drive these speakers fairly well in a small to medium sized room. But to hear their true potential, I would suggest an amplifier that delivers over 150W per channel RMS at 8 ohms.

Q: 9. I bought this a year or so ago and have been using it to use to boost the monitor level for my somewhat high-impedence headphones. I just tried the mic port for the first time. I am finding that the mic input leaks into the monitor channel even with the mic volume at zero. Raising the mic volume does raise the mic input, but also adds quite a bit of noise. And when the monitor volume is at zero, the mic channel does not sound even with the level set up high. I expected the two inputs to be independently controllable. Is there a way to accomplish this?

A: Hello. Thank you for your description of usage. This device is designed to where the Monitor level control is a master control over the overall mix output of the mic input and monitor input. The two input channels can not be separated. If needed to balance the levels of the mic and playback in your headphones, you'd have to balance the mic gain on the Polsen, and the headphone out of the Steinberg individually. As for the metronome bleed through the mix when the gain is down, the headphone out level of the metronome is a much hotter signal than the expected mic level intended for the mic input. Due to this, it is possible that the level would pass through while the gain is turned down. I would recommend revisiting the metronome built into your recording software. This can be used while recording and not actually be on your recorded tracks. By going this route, all you would need the Polsen for is to boost the level of the headphones.

Q: 10. I am considering buying a Yamaha A-S501 Integrated Amplifier (Silver) from B&H. I have only one question:According to the manual (see page 9 ), in the rear of the equipment there are Audio input/output jacks Used to connect external components, such as a tuner, etc. Are they really audio output jacks? or only input jacks? Can I connect, for instance, a stereo transmitter for headphones?or similar equipments?Carlos

[2 RU] Changing from a QSC GX5; a reliable amp but heavy with the transformer for clean power.

This amp is easy to match with my QSC E series speakers used as monitors or on stands. The speakers sound so much better with the additional power and the DSP specific settings are just amazing!

Other DSP settings makes me want to go with unpowered subs and get another GXD8, 1 for each stereo side.
