With magnifying power of 28x and easy, both-eyes-open viewing, the Oberwerk BT-70XL-ED Binocular Telescope for Astronomyfrom Oberwerk BT-70XL-ED Binocular Telescope for Astronomyprovide a satisfying alternative to traditional telescopes for astronomical or long-range terrestrial observation. The BT-70XL-ED is built with broadband fully multicoated, extra-low dispersion objective lenses that minimize chromatic aberration or "color fringing" for a sharp view. Unlike a telescope, the optic is fitted with prisms that cause the image to be upright, so along with celestial objects, you can observe distant ships, breaching whales, mountain peaks, etc. The eyepieces are angled at 45° for comfortable viewing and the optical tubes have a large interpupillary adjustment range, so everyone from children to adults can enjoy the view. Binocular telescopes are far more portable than standard telescopes and do not require specialized mounts—an ordinary tripod with a 3/8"-16 or 1/4"-20 mounting stud will do, provided it is rated for an 8.5 lb payload.

  • Focal length eyepieces are 1.25" for 28x magnification to enable long-range terrestrial use or for lunar and planetary viewing.
  • Objective lenses are 70mm to offset the dimming that is common with high-power optics during the day and to draw in the light required for astronomy use at night.
  • Extra-low dispersion glass minimizes color fringing.
  • Antireflection fully multicoated optics maximize light transmission for bright and clear images with accurate color rendition and improved contrast and clarity.
  • The apparent angle of view is wide at 70° and the collimation is certified to 98x.

  • The 45° angled eyepieces offer comfortable use.
  • Large 50-80mm interpupillary distance adjustment range accommodates children and adults.
  • The magnesium body is lightweight, waterproof, and nitrogen-filled.
  • The picatinny rail handle allows attachment of accessories including finders or laser pointers.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. ALL sites say the Esprit came with a 3 focuser, but B&H describe the focuser as been a 2 . which is correct? 2 or 3 ?

A: The focuser is 3.4 inches. The eyepiece size it uses is 2 inches.

Q: 2. Is it f/5.5 before or after the included field flattener?

A: f/ 5.5 is always a consent.

Q: 3. Do these binoculars have a locking diopter?

A: No locking diopter

Q: 4. Any front filter threads? If yes, what size?

A: The Vixen Optics 81mm BT81S-A Astronomical Binoculars do not have front filter threads.

Q: 5. Can I use multiple filters like IR cut filter, light pollution filter at the same time with this scope for astrophotogrphy?.

A: You might get some vignetting or stacking effect with using these filters at the same time. You can try it and see. It's really trial and error.

Q: 6. Would these be good for boaters & viewing over the water?

A: Yes they are Nitrogen Filled, Water & Fogproof

Q: 7. Does the findersscope come with an eyepiece with this scope. I can't tell by the pictures

A: The finder scope has an eyepiece the Sky-Watcher Esprit ED APO 100mm f/5.5 Refractor Telescope BH #SKE100EDAR • MFR #S11410 does not.

Q: 8. How much focus adjustment is there? I would like to mount a Z Cam with T-mount to shoot video.

Q: 9. Where does it made from?

A: The GPO USA 10x42 Passion ED Binoculars are made in China.

Q: 10. Would these be suitable or good for boating viewing over water?

A: So these would somewhat work on Land. However on a Boat might not be the choice since there will be a lot of movement. I would recommend going with a 7X50 Binocular for the Boat. The Nikon 7x50 Action Extreme ATB Binoculars would be a great option. Link: https://bhpho.to/3m0rzas

[28x] Nice and bright, as to be expected with an 8X42. Eye relief is excellent, as advertised, very helpful for this eyeglasses wearer. Focus is smooth and precise.

[70 mm] 8x42 Blown away. When I received them I was very impressed. It had been a few years since I had used some other great Binoculars but my first impression was that these might be as good as the best I have ever used. Was not sure until I had a chance to compare with a friend. He had a pair of $1000 Nikon 10x42. Four different people used both and with zero hesitation declared the Celestrons easily superior. WOW

[15 mm] I was intrigued by the (1) optical array and (2) whether the 3-D effect was real. I live in Chicago but observe out over the lake. The array is not visible when observing the night sky over the dark lake and is only barely visible- and not intrusive- when turning away and observing over the city streets. The 3-D effect is subtle, but real. And delightful. Optics are excellent edge to edge with outstanding color transmission. It's lightweight and solidly built. For sheer enjoyment of the night sky, I recommend it highly.

[2.5 mm] Whoa!! It was quite a surprise to look through these after using our old Bushnells. They're compact and light. Flip down covers and a well padded case are a nice addition. The image is bright, clear, and very sharp. A huge upgrade and totally worth it for my aging eyes. Our birder friends recommended these and they're perfect for us. Nice to have a harness included in the basic kit.

[70 mm] Like my Meade 8x42 Master Class Pro EDs, these Celestron 8x42 Regal EDs are the best binoculars I've ever looked through at this price! As do my Meades, these Celestron binoculars approach my Swarovski 8.5x42 ELs, are as good as my Zeiss 8x42 Conquest HDs and are better than my Leica 8x42 Trinovid HDs. They have excellent eye relief, a terrific 8 degree FOV, are tack sharp across the entire field with a very immersive view, like my Swarovski. Zeiss and Meades. I also like their hard carrying case and the included harness. Like the aforementioned binoculars, these Celestron Regals, performance wise, are easily my 5th pair of Alphas. They perform as well, and are in the same league, as my much more expensive European made binoculars. These binoculars are a total steal at this price and are worth at least $200-300 more. If you want European quality and don't want to break the bank, these are definitely your binoculars! I am so glad I made this purchase. Thanks, B&H!

[Individual] As an older guy, I have learned good glass is sometimes the difference between successes and failures in a hunt/operation. These are the second set of Regals I have and was VERY impressed with the clarity of them. I am retired now and bought these Binoculars mainly for hunting Moose, Bears, and 4 legged predators. They compare to much more expensive sets I have gone through belonging to work.

[28x] I am surprised to find how much I can see for being only 7x due to excellent clarity and contrast. Controls are all perfect (if you don't require a very stiff focus wheel). Very good edge to edge clarity. I recommend these. A little hefty in weight but I like this as it holds very steady for me.

[70 mm] These binoculars are easy to set up, the optics are exceptionally clear, 8x32 results in fairly wide field of vision, and they are light enough to carry with you on a trek into nature.
