Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this REALLY hold 6.6 lbs. if it is extended all the way out horizontally 20" with the weight at the end?

A: Yes the load capacity would be based on the full extension of the arm, so it is capable of holding up to 6.6 lbs.

Q: 2. can I replace the camera arm end with a clamp end?

A: If the intent is to use the arm to hold a camera but with the ability to use a clamp on both ends, then you would actually need the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Arm With Camera Bracket, B&H # MA244. Please see the following image.

Q: 3. I'm getting a lot of cracking / creaking noise when tightening the knob. Is this normal?

A: You need to re-lube the tightening mechanism with a small amount of grease.

Q: 4. please tell me what diameter thread the ends take. Thank you. ?

A: One end of the arm has a 1/4 -20 female thread and the other end has a 3/8 -16 female thread.

Q: 5. Is this compatible and able to attach this to a Smallrig Cage 4317?

A: Yes, the SmallRig HawkLock H21 Quick Release Rosette Magic Arm could attach to the many 1/4-20 mounting points or the NATO rails on the Smallrig Cage # 4317.

Q: 6. I"m needing to use something like this to shoot down flat/macro work. Will this support a Canon 5D3 with say 100L macro lens or 24-70L II lens?

A: You can mount it but it would not be as stable as a tripod

Q: 7. After having received this device unassembled I now do not know how it fits back together and the instructions say absolutely nothing about assembly. There are a number of washers and discs and a long screw. I imagine the screw holds the arms together, but I do not know the proper assembly of the washers, knobs or discs. I am not pleased with this purchase already. Please help.?

Q: 8. Weight capacity. How heavy of a camera is this arm rated to hold?

A: Not sure what the official specs are but we support a Thermography camera and motorized pan/tilt mechanism from it. The combination weighs about 5 pounds. The closer the arm is to the wall the stronger it will be, and of course the more horizontal extension used it won't support as much. The lock knob can be cranked down pretty tight, and the arm and wall plate are very solid (typical for Manfrotto).

Q: 9. Can I remove camera bracket out like Manfrotto_244 ?

A: Yes but not easily. The screw is threadlocked on and once you remove it, it will no longer be a secure hold. You're better off buying the regular 244N of you don't want a bracket, or getting a 244 which comes with the removable bracket, not a quick release.

Q: 10. Will it work on Odyssey 7Q+ and Sony FS700? Or should I use another Magic Arm? Thanks.

A: The 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket is much heavier than you need for that application, in my opinion. Depends on your rig or setup. But a smaller extension device will likely be more acceptable.

[3] I use them to hang remote cameras behind backboards at basketball games. Never had one fail, but don't get overly paranoid and tighten it too much as the ball will crack the clamps on the ends. That's why I'm here ordering another one. Never had one fail, but I posted a link below to a safety cable, I'd always use one with it. In some places you may have regulations that require it.

[1/4"-20 Male ] I purchased the magic arm along with a super clamp for my wife who is confined to a wheel chair. We both enjoy photography as a retirement hobby. Clamped onto the frame of the chair my wife now has the camera support she increasingly needs to remain an active shutterbug.

[0.695 lb] I use this arm when setting up a remote camera for shooting NBA games. I like it much better than the arm with the lever because it gives me much more control when adjusting it in close quarters and making small changes.

[1/4"-20 Male ] I use this product in combination with the Avenger F1000 suction mounts to mount cameras to cars. This thing is pure magic and I don't know what I would do without it. It is strong, rigid and can be contorted into just about any shape/position that I need it. Only down side is it would be nice if the camera mount was removable so that I could use it for different tasks, such as a mini-boom on a light stand. But no biggie. It's a great product.

[3] We set up machine vision inspections systems. These are industrial applications where installations are not always straight forward. We use Magic arms to do initial set up and testing of cameras and lights and to collect images for initial software development. Magic arms are great for field evaluation work. They are easy to use and adapt well to most environments. Only downside is traveling with them on airplanes etc. A bit bulky and can be a little awkward in hand carry bags BUT benefits way outweigh the downside for us.
