A: Any AF-S lens will work with that camera and auto-focus will work.AF lenses will not auto-focus but can be manually focused.

Q: 3. This lens should be brand new , right ?

A: The Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens will be new. All items in our inventory would be new, unless clearly stated otherwise on the item's page. And for the most part, no used or refurbished items will come up in a search unless you are specifically looking in our Used Department.

Q: 5. This is really an F1.8/75mm on a DX body right?

A: Yes, 50 mm on a Nikon dx would be equivalent to 75mm but I don't think the aperture would change. It would still be a 1.4.

A: While I personally prefer a lens between 85mm to 135mm for portraiture needs, if you are using the lens on a camera that has an APS-C sensor, then yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens would work for your needs.

Q: 9. Will this lens work on the D5000 and the D7100

A: The Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens is fully compatible with every Nikon DSLR and any Nikon SLR that has the ability to control aperture through the cameras body. That being said, this lens is fully compatible with both the D5000 and D7100.

Q: 10. I am reading mixed reviews for the comparison of the 1.4G to the 1.8G. Does anyone have experience using both and can tell me which they prefer?

A: I bought both lenses roughly a year ago. They are both solid lenses, but I use the 1.8G more because I primarily shoot portraits and it's more detailed. If I were to recommend only 1 I'd recommend the 1.8G.

[9] First of all, I am not a professional photographer.  Im simply a true amateur who plays with a lot of different photographic tools.  While Im not a pro by any means...I do appreciate the good stuff and Ive owned and used a lot of the truly expensive cameras and glass.

I bought a new Canon M3 about a year and half ago...but seldom used it.  I like to shoot using prime lenses...and one of my favorites is my Nikon AI-S 50mm f1.2 manual focus lens.  That particular lens acts like an 80mm lens on the M3 and I get wonderful results when I nail the focus.  I thought about buying the Nikon 35mm f1.4 AI-S lens but hesitated due to the average used price for a really nice one being $400+.

So when I discovered this lens for 1/4th the price I just had to try it.  Ive only had the lens now for about two hours...but Ill let the attached pictures speak for themselves.  Perhaps all the pros will throw darts...but my first impression is really good.  In addition to giving good results the lens appears to be well built.  The focus action is buttery smooth and the clickless 9-blade aperture control ring is also as smooth as silk.

Ill repeat my headline...What have you got to lose?  Try it.

[52 mm (Front)] it is very sharp even f1.4
built quality is one of the top notch. for this price, I have no complaints. if you are enjoying a manual prime lens, this is it.

[Nikon Z] Yes it's plastic, and it's not quite as sharp as the Nikon 50mm 1.8, but this is only $160. The auto focus is fast and accurate, and it is still very sharp. The Nikon is maybe 10% sharper in the center but it costs almost 4X as much as this lens.

As an amateur photographer this is a no brainer, just get it.

[2' / 61 cm] This is a fun lens to shoot with -- I was looking for a nifty fifty sized prime for my M50, and it fills the bill, being 56mm equivalent. The build quality, for being very inexpensive Chinese-made glass, is surprisingly good. It provides good control over depth of field, as one would expect from the specs. The manual focus is very easy, and I have zero complaints about this lens. You get your moneys worth for 100 bucks, if you are looking for a manual focus prime.

[APS-C] Buy it. Details below, but just buy the thing and read this after.

It’s a hundred bucks. The Fuji equivalent is four times that. It’s a fully manual lens, but that is fine with me. With Fuji, it’s all about tactility anyway! The aperture ring is very nice and not too tight, feels like it’s very well built and moves easily and with confidence. Same goes for the focus dial!

Other reviews I’ve seen for this say it’s too soft at 1.4 and really gets usable at 2.5 or whatever. This has not been my experience. At 1.4 it’s been super usable for me. You’re gonna get a really thin slice of your image in focus, but that makes for such an intimate look in whatever you choose to have in focus.

At f/16 the scene gets dark of course, but everything is sharp as a tack. This is a really fun lens to use, and it fits super super snug on my X-T30. Just an awesome product.

Cheap lenses are getting good, and good lenses are getting cheap!

[f/1.4] The built quality on this lens is amazing. Sharpness is decent and the bokeh is also pretty good.

All in all, it is an excellent manual 50mm equivalent lens for APS-C cameras for under $159
