The Rycote WS 4 Windshield Kit for XLR-5Ffrom Rycote WS 4 Windshield Kit for XLR-5Fprovides you with the accessories needed to prevent or isolate your microphone from up to 50 dB of wind and handling noise. It can be used in various outdoor environments, when maximum isolation from wind and handling noise is required, including such audio applications as weddings, outdoor and water sports, boating, and more. The WS 4 Kit features a modular suspension with pistol grip, a windshield, and a windjammer. Also featured are a boom pole adapter, a CB4 Connbox, and an XLR holder.

The microphone fits on the modular suspension and attaches to the Connbox. The windshield fits onto the suspension and is enclosed around the mic. The fuzzy windjammer then fits over the windshield. This completely modular system can be configured to allow almost any microphone to be shock-mounted. Two Duo-Lyre suspension webs, a brush, and a hex head key are included.

Complete isolation is provided against handling noise and cable-borne noises. It also supports the microphone in a cradle using Lyre suspension webs.

The windshield basket completely surrounds the microphone and its connector. It slides onto the Modular Suspension to provide up to 30 dB of wind noise attenuation.

The Windjammer is a synthetic fur cover that is designed to fit over the Modular Windshield, providing an additional 20 dB of wind noise attenuation. It is fitted with a drawstring and toggle for easily fitting on the mic.

Audio-Technica AT 8035 (BP 4029), Rode NT4 (single shank), Sennheiser MKH 418, 418S, and Sony ECM 680S. It is designed to fit microphones with lengths from 9.7 up to 11" (246 to 280mm).

[25 x 8 x 4.5"] I haven't had much use out of this kit so far, but I can already say it is designed very thoughtfully. My only complaint is that the dead cat loses its 'fur'; not too much, but a a few hairs here and there can leave behind an unwanted mess. 5

[2.85 lb] This windshield and windjammer by rycote is very durable and easily fits the Sennheiser MKH-416 Microphone. It filters out a lot of wind noise with little coloration to the overall quality of the audio. This specific one is designed just for the 416 and works great with any boom pole. 5

I have been using one since 1992. 2 years after I bought it one of the clips got broken and I wrote to them ( No e mails then ) about 10 days later a box full of stuff they sent me. The best thing about this product is the wonderful service you get from the manufacturer. Typicaly British ! 5

[25 x 8 x 4.5"] Works great and does what it's supposed to do. It's also easy to setup. If you want to take your audio to next level you going to need this. Fragile feel to it can be deceiving. It flexes easily but I don't think it breaks very easy. It's light which is really good because having something like this on the end of your boom pole can get really tiring after a short while. 5

[50 dB] I am using this on a Rode Boompole and a Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun mic. I record all my audio into a Roland R-44. I am a student so when it comes to buying equipment, it comes down to price, functions and long term investment. It was between a Rode blimp and this and obviously this won me over for 2 reasons: the design and connbox. Don't get me wrong, I really like Rode products, and I do respect the rode blimp alot as it is a versatile and affordable blimp. However, I figured if I'm going to invest in a blimp, might as well do it once and forget about it. The pricing is on the expensive side but A) I can afford it and B) I see this as a long term investment. The Rycote design with the suspension and overall practicality was a huge score for me. I can wave that blimp with the MKE 600 in it and I won't even hear any rattling (but if you really wanted, you'd have to make a significant amount of effort to get a rattle sound). I recorded some audio outside with wind that could make a flag wave straight out consistently. No wind sounds. Just pristine, quality sounds of what I was wanting to capture. One could argue to get just the Rycote Lyre system and put them on a Rode blimp system, but then comes the connbox: it made a huge difference. The combination of both the Lyre and the connbox is a great design and works very efficiently. The bottom line is this: If you are VERY tight on budget, then get the Rode Blimp. However, if you can invest to get the Rycote Windshield blimp, it pays off tremendously down the road. I've used both and by far I like using the Rycote blimp way more. 5

[50 dB] I needed wind protection for my sennheiser ME-80 for a location shoot on a boat on a coastal waterway. ... I don't think anything less would have provided the wind protection needed and the audio came out prestine. 5

[50 dB] Really good for light wind or making the Zeppelin hurricane proof. Using this in combination with the standard wind jammer is probably the best wind protection that exists. 5
