A: Bryan:All my gear comes from B&H. I have the D7000, the Nikkor 80x400, and the Kenko Tele-Plus converter at 1.4X. The combination is just fine. Here is the deal though that I was not prepared for, (my fault for not doing enough research). They say that a 1.4x costs 1 f-stop. This is correct, but only if you are nearer the 80mm range on the zoom. When you zoom out to 400mm, it will cost you 3 f-stops. The tele. will cost you f5.6 vs. f4 on the low end and likely f8 vs. f5.6 on the high end. This is assuming a 1.4x converter. Multiply that if you want to go 1.7x. It other words, I shoot birds and they move, and they hide in dark places. This makes the tele. a bit tough at 400mm due to the loss of 3 f-stops. I have to shoot too slowly to freeze them.
