Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Adapter to use this lens on a Canon mirrorless camera?

A: Currently, there is no adapter for the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens or any Z-mount lens to adapt to a Canon RF mount.

Q: 2. Would this work with a Zfc?

A: Yes. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens is fully compatible with the Nikon ZFC camera.

Q: 3. What's the minimum focusing distance at 100mm focal length?

A: At 105mm the minimum focus of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens is about 23''.

Q: 4. How does the sharpness of this lens compare with the Nikon 80-400 G lens?

A: The optical quality in the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens is no where near the quality compared to the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens. Those 2 lenses are completely different price points and optical ranges.

Q: 5. Can one use the TC 1.4 with this lens?

A: No, one would not be able to use the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens.

Q: 9. As Nikon Z8 IBIS has "VR" built-in, what does this zoom's VR add to stabilization vs. Nikon Z 24-120mm F4 S for Z8 IBIS?

A: Because In Body Image Stabilization is not as effective with telephoto lenses as it is with wide-angle lenses, it helps to have both types available.

Q: 10. Anyone using this with the ZF? I'm sure you would need the small rig grip, but just wondering how this lens would balance. Thx.

A: Due to the weight and length of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens, it is not necessary to use with a tripod collar or support grip on the Nikon ZF or any other Nikon Z model

[0.32 lb] This lens is hard to fit because of all the rotating pieces, but this cover does a great job. I bought it to replace the one by lenscoat (and get a darker color). It was designed with care, with cutouts so you can see the zoom setting and operate the switches directly instead of through clear plastic. I suppose the weather protection of the switches won't be as good, but operation is much easier. It is still slippery on the outside like lenscoat, so I will need to add rubber bands for better grip. It's a more thoughtful design and a better product, at a much better price.

[Neoprene] I mainly got this as I noted that birds would spook with my zoom lens. It was easy to set up. Like other reviewers stated, you cannot add the piece for the moving part of the zoom unless you want this fixed. I mainly got this to not spook the birds and it is sufficient.

[Neoprene] Fits snug but a little difficult to install. Directions show profile pictures for order of install. Have to remove tripod foot on 200-400 to get it on the bottom parts. Windows allow operation of switches that imporve waterproffness.

[0.32 lb] Everything you expect from LensCoat. Perfect fit and they figured out precisely where openings need to be, etc.

[Neoprene] This lens cover is very thin camo neoprene and it feels really soft in your hands and each piece fits perfectly on the section of the lens that it is designed for. Even the angled piece at the very back next to the camera fits well. There is a very grippy thin rubber coating on the inner side to help it hold tight to the man and each piece fits very well and stays put. I'm very happy with this setup. There are little plastic windows letting you see your adjustable buttons and you can shift them by pressing them through the plastic. No complaints.

[0.32 lb] Included setup diagram makes installation easy. Fits well and enables access tool lens functions.

[Neoprene] Nicely made, easy to install, good protection and looks great. My only nit is that it is overpriced and needs access to the drop-in filter without having to remove the cover so that you can use the polarizing filter when you want to.

[0.32 lb] This does exactly what it says - a little extra protection from knocks, scratches which means peace of mind for a very expensive lens. The cover is not one piece, but several separate neoprene sleeves, these go on without too much difficulty, and you can leave some off - for example I didn't put one on the focus ring on my Nikon 200-400mm as I like a precise touch. The neoprene is not super thick but it is well make with solid stitching. It does take a few minutes of push and pull adjustments to get all the bands set right, but this is not too big a deal. It also leaves the camera controls pretty accessible, other reviewers have grumbled a bit about access to the settings, but they are behind an easy to see clear window, and I am more the 'set it and forget it' type for VR. If you consider the cost of a high end pro telephoto lens, I think this is well worth the cost.
