The Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Lens for Micro Four Thirdsis a compact telephoto prime lens that provides a focal length equivalence of 170mm when used on Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital cameras. The fast, bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is effective in low light situations and provides shallow depth of field control.

This manual focus and manual exposure lens features an internal focusing mechanism that maintains the overall lens length during focusing and does not rotate the front of the lens, making it well-suited for use with polarizers or graduated neutral density filters.

One aspherical element is incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and produce imagery with a degree of sharpness and clarity. A UMC multi-coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich images.

Telephoto prime lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 127.5mm when used on a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital camera.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focusing for selective focus and shallow depth of field imagery.

One aspherical element has been integrated into the lens' design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and contribute to high overall sharpness.

UMC multi-coating minimizes lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery.

Manual focus design incorporates an internal focusing mechanism that maintains the overall length of the lens when focusing.

Eight-blade rounded diaphragm produces an aesthetic out-of-focus quality that is well suited to shallow depth of field applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. do I use it also with my old Film camera Nikon F3 ?

A: I use it on both, my digital & film camera (Nikon FM2) so I guess that on the F3 would not be a problem as well.

Q: 2. I understand that this particular item comes with the chip for auto exposure, but is the chip already installed on the lens mount or do I have to mount it myself?

A: I'm using the lens on a 5300 which isn't a full frame camera there is no auto focus but there is an indicator light as part of the Nikon system that confirms focus. So as I'm currently using the lens it's a 135 excellent lens

Q: 3. Is there an additional piece that increases the length to mount to sony or is the photo as is to sony e mount?

A: Unfortunately this lens can not take a teleconverter so there is not an easy way to get more length out of this lens other than cropping.

Q: 4. Can this be adapted to a micro four thirds camera with a regular F/G to MFT mount adapter? Or perhaps a speedbooster?

A: Yes you can with speed booster or regular adapter

Q: 5. I have a d7500 and it has s focus motor built in. Can my camera autofocus this lens? The answers here are contradictory. Thanks

A: This lens is manual focus only, it will not auto focus at all.

Q: 6. will this lens mount onto my Olympus OMD E5 without adaptor? If so, how is exposure determined, is are all settings done on manual? thanks!

A: Yes, the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 for Micro Four Thirds Cameras will mount without an adapter on the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Exposures are determined by the camera's meter, like any other lens with a camera set on manual mode.

Q: 7. Does it Auto Focus on the a6000?

A: This is a manual focus and manual exposure lens. There are no automatic functions.

Q: 8. Will this lens tranfer exif data?

A: No.

Q: 9. Would this lens be compatible with a Canon 60d?

A: Yes, the lens is compatible with the Canon EOS 60D camera.

Q: 10. Is this Nikon version an IF (internal focus) lens?

A: Just check the Samyang website: The Samyang 85mm is designed with internal focusing (IF) meaning the lens does not increase in size when focusing. A further positive aspect to internal focusing is that the lens is much less likely to get dust inside.

[f/22] I spent a lot of time researching this lens, and thought for the price, why not buy it. Declicked it myself, added a follow focus ring and took it onto a shoot 2 days after receiving it. It was going to be used along side a Zeiss 50mm. After comparing the footage between the two lens, it was almost impossible to tell the difference. Since buying this lens I will be investing in the remainder of there cine primes until I upgrade to PL primes.

[f/1.4] I've had this lens for about 8 months and am so surprised by and happy with the performance. Sharp, beautiful bokeh, smooth focus ring, hefty build quality, all for such an affordable price. If you don't need auto focus, this thing delivers. It's also very small and discreet for such a long range.

[f/1.4] The term best bang for your buck still does not define the quality that you get with this lens for the very little money you put down. Images are sharp wide open and become bitingly sharp stopped down. Bokeh is beautiful with out of focus highlights rendered in such high quality you'd think you'd spent 2 grand on the lens! Even the build quality is good! (though it aint L lens good). If you can manual focus, or if you have a camera that can aid you when manual focusing, then you can't go wrong with this lens in your arsenal.

[8] I've been testing this lens with video on my Nikon D600 and is awesome, the bokeh is super beautiful, very sharp. The confirmation chip is wonderful.

[72 mm (Front)] I recently purchased my 1st DSLR (Pentax K-30) with a couple of kit lenses. While I have had some great results with them outside, I quickly realized I needed faster glass for indoor sports shooting and I'm on a budget. Rokinon met the need. I've never manually focused but quickly learned how to get some sharp images with this lense. What I did was put the camera in drive mode (6fps). I would focus on the subjects as best I could through the view-finder, start snapping pictures and slowly walk the focus through the subjects. Out of every burst, I got at least 1 very sharp image and sometimes 2. Honestly, I'm barely getting that level of sharpness with my other auto-focus lenses when shooting fast action. I've actually put some of my other lense on manual focus for fast action because of what I learned with this lense. Additionally, this is by FAR the highest quality lens I own now. I would definately buy another Rokinon lense! Very impressed!

[14.4°] I am semi-pro with both Pentax and Nikon equipment. I thought this lens was very sharp from day one but Sunday I matched it with the well respected Nikon 105mm f2.8 pro lens. The Rokinon did excellent against this $$ lens, only loosing a bit in th corners, and that was hardly noticeable. I also preferred the color rendition of the Rokinon. So I am very happy I bought it considering its quality, balance, workmanship and specially sharpness. This lens will work with my future full frame Pentax and as a portrait lens an 85mm makes more sense that a 105mm in digital crop frames. By the way, I love B&H ! Keep up the good work !

[f/22] Most of my work is portrait so I need a good prime lens around this focal length. I considered the Nikkor equivalent but after reading various reviews I decided to give this one a try. I'm glad I did. Wide open the DOF is almost non-existent at close focus. You can use that to your advantage of course but it comes at a price since there's no AF to rely on. That's no problem for me as I've been using MF lenses for years and I trust my eye. But if you're not a MF veteran you may find the need to focus inconvenient. (Like other reviews have said the focus confirm chip isn't always accurate. I suspect there's a manufacturing spread on this and you may get lucky and receive one that is always accurate.) Technically the optical quality is outstanding and I can't add anything new here to what others have already posted.

[f/22] Smooth focusing makes this lens great for both photographers and videographers. This allows you to get close up shots of a person, but it doesn't quite make it for Extreme close up shots (min focus distance). I am wondering if a close up filter could help with that...

[Manual Focus] I am a semi-opro owning both Nikon and Pentax equipment. I bought the 85 mm for the Pentax as I use that camera more and more. It is very sharp and the colors and Bokeh are beautiful. You cannot go wrong for the price of this lens. I did not need it as I own the Kikon 105 mm for model shoots etc. But again, for the money this lens is outstanding, and it would be superb at any price really. Criticisms of the lens have revolved about the flimsy lens cap and hood. I solved that by buying a Sensei (generic) lens cap with the pinch buttons in the middle and now I can keep the lens hood on all the time with the cap on or off. And last but not LEAST.....the focus indicator led works on my Pentax when in focus!!!!!
