Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is Universal 100-240VAC Adapter Included?

A: Yes, the power supply is included and rated for 100v - 240v.

Q: 2. I just received this charger, and was conditioning some old 2100mA Rayovac rechargeables. When I checked on them, I was shocked to see two of them charged to 3886 mA and still increasing. I immediately unplugged the unit and removed the batteries. One is bubbly looking like it's about to explode. Is my charger defective, or did I do something wrong?

A: This does not seem to be a typical problem. Please contact Powerex/Mahaenergy to see if you might have a defective unit. Powere Tel: (800) 376-9992 Website: http://www.mahaenergy.com/

Q: 3. Is this manufactured by Nikon (MH-32)?

A: Yes this is a genuine Nikon charger.

Q: 4. Powerex MH-C980: When charging, is the display "always on", or can it be turned off? I am trying to reduce "light pollution" in the office.

A: By pressing both buttons at the same time, you can toggle this to be always on and off.

Q: 5. Does this come with a cord or does it have built in prongs?

A: This model comes with the cord with the AC Prong at the end.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Nikon D3500?

A: Yes it will!

Q: 7. So as of September of 2023, does this come with the ac prong adapter, line cord, or both?

A: The Nikon MH-25a Battery Charger only includes the AC plug adapter.

Q: 8. What is the difference between this charger and the older MH-25, other than the 'a'?

A: Basically I am of the opinion they are the same or so slightly different; I have used both of them for the same battery recharging. I think there might be a little more quick charging with model ending in a. Makers of off-brands do not make a distinction sometimes. The M H -a should charge any EN-EL-3 batteries ( note; this battery has been modified over the years I think???) I have a grey one, the new ones are black. If you are completely uncertain then call Nikon USA tech support. I would just go with the MH-25-a. If you travel a lot you might eventually like a spare as backup as technology can fail; I also carry 2 inverters for the car so I can have backup for in car recharging; on a remote trip to Patagonia my inverter failed; since I have a distrust with technology I just switched the bad one with the spare; also extra batteries are wise and do not use off-brand ones as the Nikon batteries are better despite hype you might hear; off-brand chargers are OK; I have both Nikon and off brand chargers with me in my travels. Good luck.

Q: 9. Are Eneloop batteries compatible with this product?

A: To our knowledge, Panasonic Eneloop batteries have not been tested with this charger. That being said, the results may vary.

Q: 10. The default charging mode seems fast on MH-C980. Is this harder on batteries in the long run, compared to the cheaper MH-800S?

A: Default charging on the Powerex MH-C980 Turbo Charger-Analyzer is two hours, which will not harm the batteries.

[8 x 6.8 x 2.4"] I used this charger to recondition 16 AA batteries. It worked exactly as advertised. It is not a fast process but then it is not supposed to be fast. It charged the batteries up, then it ran them down slowly and shows how much power it got out of them. Finally it recharges them and shows how much they hold. The only down side is once you start the process you cannot interupt it without it starting over. I had a brief power interuption at the house and it started over. It gets a little warm but not bad.

[200 mA] It's not cheap but it works very well. My old Pearstone charger was just not charging the batteries as well - the would go dead in my remote control in a matter of days. I threw out the old batteries but then new ones started having the same issues a few months later. This charger was able to condition the cells and they once again last for a couple months in the remote.

Yes, it does have a somewhat noisy fan that runs when the charger is conditioning or charging, so don't put it in your bedroom or home theatre.

[8 x 6.8 x 2.4"] This battery charger is great. It charge up to 8 batteries. It tells you how much charge was needed for each battery. It has a mode that conditions batteries. When done it tells the amount of charge needed to recharge each battery from the discharged state. If this is way less than the rated capacity of the battery, it has probably lost charging capacity. If it is way more, the battery may be self-discharging. I've seen both cases.

[1.21 lb] The main thing that wasn't clear for me in the beginning was that each status was individual to each battery slot, so you can use the analyzer to figure out which individual battery is good or no good, and act accordingly.

People talk about the fan but it's not terrible even when it kicks up to high. You can hear it and you might have to kick up the volume of music or video playing in the same room by one or two ticks, or maybe put it in a ventilated cupboard with holes pointing away from you, but it's not a huge hairy deal (in my mind). Combined with a voltmeter, you truly can figure out if you have any dud batteries though, and rescue those that aren't duds, just potentially neglected.

[200 mA] Ive been using Powerex chargers and PowerexPro batteries for 2+ years. HAPPY PHOTOGRAPHER. Im able to get longer lasting power from Powerex than other brands Ive tried in the past.

I purchased the MH-C980 primarily as a back-up to my MH-801D, which still works flawlessly. After using the C980 a few times, I decided to make it the primary and keep the old one as back-up. Also, it has done a great job at re-conditioning older batteries that were losing capacity.

My opinion: I wouldnt waste money on another brand.

[2-Prong US Plug] There have been some people who complained about the noise coming from the fan. However, I personally do not think that the fan noise is that big of a problem.

If you find the fan noise to be a problem, I suggest that you consider looking for a different charger.

Personally, I like the fact that my batteries do not get hot when I charge them, and that I can charge one battery at a time with this charger.

I usually do not write reviews because I have a reading disability and I use text-to-speech software to convert my speech into text. I try to use Grammarly to identify and correct any grammar and spelling mistakes, but if I miss any, I apologize.

[Ni-Cd, Ni-MH] This is more than just a charger for your AA/AAA NiMH batteries. The condition feature lets you monitor the health of each battery while keeping them in tip top shape. That way you can revive some batteries that are no longer behaving they way they did when they were new, and remove from service batteries that are no longer holding a full charge. The only downside I've found is that it may not work with some non-Powerex batteries, -you may get a battery fault indication when you put them in the charger even though those batteries will work just fine in a conventional charger. This may be caused by batteries that have an internal impedance/resistance that's different from that of Powerex batteries.

[8x AA, AAA] This is by far the best battery charger I've ever owned. But it has a few issues.

First the good things. It charges 8 AA or AAA cells. In normal mode it takes 2 to 3 hours, but you can select turbo mode, and it charges in 1 hour. (But the documentation warns that turbo mode might shorten battery life.) It also has mode that evaluates and conditions batteries. It charges, discharges, and recharges the batteries. This takes the better part of day, but it really works, and it reports the mAh capacity. I had some old batteries that my old charger would claim to charge much faster that the others, but the they ran down much faster, too. Two conditioning cycles with this charger and they were working as expected. It runs on both 120 and 240 VAC.

Now for the nit picks. The interface is weird and you had better keep the instructions right beside the charger. For example to enter the conditioning mode with multiple batteries you have to insert one battery, then within 5 seconds press the CONDITION button, then insert the remaining batteries. On the display there are numbers 1 to 8 for the battery slots. There is a triagle that appears below the number. They can blink if various combinations. How does one interpret that? Apparently if the number but not the triangle is blinking the battery is charging, if both are blinking it indicates a battery fault. But it take careful reading of the manual to figure this out. Other strange things are that you are supposed to plug the AC adapter into the charger first, then plug the AC adapter into the AC power. Why should that matter? You are advised to insert the batteries in left-to-right order. There is a backlight and you can have it on or off. But to do that you must press the CONDITION and TURBO buttons at the same time. But if you remove power, it forgets the setting. The unit contains a fan. It is not very noisy, but you will definitely notice it in a quite room.
