Q: 1. Does the Optical Steady Shot also functions well when filming with e.g. the Sony Fs7? Does anyone have experience with that?

A: The Optical steady shot feature is compatible with the FS7.

Q: 2. How durable is this lense in weather like rain or dust?

A: I've had it out for Friday Night Lights through many light mist to pouring rain circumstances. I do use a Rain Sleeve & I've not had a problem. When It's been a great lens that pairs wonderfully with my Sony a9. When I get home, I do undo everything & let everything dry overnight. I do not keep it in my bag. When you're investing that much money, I tend to do a bit more to ensure it's worth

Q: 3. Does this lense work on a Sony Aii?

A: Yes

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with the Sony A 6000

A: Yes. This lens is fully compatible with the Sony Alpha a6000.

Q: 5. The new Sony lens SEL70200GM ships with a petal-shaped lens hood ALC-SH145. What is the diameter of this lens hood at its widest point? (This should assist me to prepare room for the lens in the face of the long delay in availability.)

A: 4 1/2 at the widest point.

Q: 6. what is the main difference from the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens that costs a lot more?

A: The FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II has improved optics (significant difference in my personal opinion after I traded my original one from the II), it's 30% lighter, and has a better linear AF motor for improved speed and accuracy.

Q: 7. Can you tell me what the purpose of the door/window opening on the bottom of lens hood is? I am perplexed as are some of my more experienced friends.

A: I think so you can turn a filter without removing the hood.

Q: 8. is the AOV in the specs correct for a FF camera?

A: As the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens is a full-frame lens, all specifications listed on our website from Sony, including the angle of view, are listed correctly and listed for full-frame usage.

Q: 9. Does this lens focus and shoot quickly? I had a Tamron 70-200 2.8 that I used an adapter for that was sooooooo slow and I ended up selling it.

Q: 10. Would anyone use this on the FS5?. We need a zoom that is fast. any suggestions from the staff?

A: the Sony PXW-FS5 XDCAM Super 35 Camera System is equipped with the Sony E-mount lens mount, it would be fully compatible for use with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens. While the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens is a new lens, it is supposed to be one of Sony's best telephoto zoom lenses with a fast f/2.8 constant maximum aperture, and would be a good recommendation for your needs.

When you pay $12,000 for a lens, you want to do all you can to protect it. LensCoat lens covers are the real deal. This is the third super telephoto lens I have covered with a LensCoat cover. All the pieces were cut to fit and the assembly process was quick and painless. Everything fit as it was intended. When you use a lens that is almost two feet long, it tends to get bumped from time to time. The LensCoat cover does an excellent job of protecting the lens from scratches and dings. I recently sold a lens that had been protected with a LensCoat cover. When the cover was removed, the lens looked like it did the day it was purchased. Besides protection, the LensCoat cover provides camouflage and a warm touch on cold days. I would not use a long telephoto without it.

Everything you would expect. Big, fairly heavy - sharp and contrasty at all apertures. Fairly quick AF. The best choice if you need a large, fixed aperture and are willing to pay the price!

I am a fan of Sony’s GM lenses. I’ve take some choice photos with this lens. It’s well worth it.

I LOVE this lens. I have owned both the EF70-200mm f/2.8L II as well as the VR2 version of the 70-200mm f/2.8 in Nikon. The new GMaster has raised the bar as far as I'm concerned, especially when shooting portraits with the EYE AF mode. It's difficult to get an eye out of focus even wide open and working in close to my subjects. The integral tripod foot is similar to Nikon's and is a superior to the Canon in removal with it's quick release. The lens is SHARP! Tons of contrast and really nice neutral color rendition will allow me to use this for both stills as well as video projects. Sony knocked this one out of the park...

I love this lens. An added plus is connecting a 2X Teleconverter to it. This lens is a must have.

Minimal use as just obtained 1 week ago. A few test images suggests to be extremely well corrected and very very sharp on my Sony A7RII. Have not used with the extender however.

Breathtaking. I have only my own copy but it is breathtaking. Not as heavy as I expected. Feels great with or without the battery grip on the full-frame mirrorless body. Very pleased with the multiple focus holds. Using an a7rii, results suggest the effort of wielding multiple bodies and/or repeated sensor-soiling lens changes with a bag full of primes: 70/90/105/135/180/200 -- at least six 2.8 primes in one lens with superb buttery bokeh throughout. Surely some will find something to quibble about -- no one thing can ever please everyone at any price -- but so far I have found nothing. I waited three months for my copy. Now I understand why. Zero regrets at this point. No it is not overpriced. Get one, take your shots and discover this gem for yourself. More reading about this lens cannot truly convey what it may or may not be able to do for your photography. Most of the highly technical overlong web-sourced product reviews can be pompous fifth-grade science projects at best, some more so than others. It seems like just yesterday that everyone was endlessly fretting about the availability of lenses for the Sony mirrorless ILCs. That's really is ancient history now. My Sony family: 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 24-70/2.8, and this one -- the one that pushed me all the way to actually writing something. I'm sure it will also be amazing on the quick crop-sensor bodies as well looking forward to that. Images? Get this lens and make your own. Cheers :)

Some say these are very expensive. My feeling is they are well made, fit great, and offer good protection to the lens. Plus the added bonus of camo, your choice! Wouldnt take a big lens in the field without one.
