Capture stunning cinematic images with a vintage anamorphic look using this PAVO 65mm T2.8 2x Anamorphic Prime Lens from DZOFilm. Designed to cover Super35 sensors of cine-style cameras, this lens has a maximum aperture of T2.8 and employs 2x magnification, thus achieving what is commonly referred to as “true” anamorphic imaging with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and boasting exceptional “waterfall” bokeh and evenly layered, horizontal blue flares.

The 65mm lens can focus down to 14.4" for macro shots, and its low-distortion barrel design retains all the desirable attributes of anamorphic shooting without sacrificing image quality. The PAVO’s PL mount can quickly be switched to an EF mount using the included EF bayonet. Focus marks are defined in feet, and the compact size and lightweight design of the lens make it an ideal option for cameras mounted on drones, mechanical and electronic stabilizers, and in handheld situations where keeping weight to a minimum is critical.

[65mm] Bought this and the 20-55 for a few jobs where they will be paired with some Zeiss Superspeed primes. On FX9 they cover up to 5K (about 1.2 crop) easily.

They are nice par-focal cinema zooms. They have a pleasant look that is reminiscent of older lenses but they are for sure not 'old' in any way. Modern coating control flaring excellently. They will let a highlight bloom a bit but never ghost the whole frame and wash out your blacks. Very very sharp when in focus but do an interesting thing where it is easy to tell where the focal plane ends and the out of focus begins. Like the micro contrast just melts away. A wonderful set.

I have owned the Fujinon MK zooms for a long time so I thought this set might be a duplicate. Not at all. They are on opposite ends of the high end glass spectrum. Fujinons are clean and sharp and clear. The DZOfilm lenses are full of character and texture but also sharp. Hard to put into words but it is very nice.

[65mm] I didn’t know I needed a macro lens until I did tons of research and pulled the trigger on this. Really worth the investment, I’m able to get shots I haven’t gotten before. It’s really fun to get new types of shots. Highly recommend!!

[Yes] When I purchased this lens I also bought the 40mm and 21mm Vespid Primes. Surprising to me I have used this lens the most. The macro detail is so fun to shoot and look amazing. However, if you use it as a portrait lens it gives you a great falloff and a nice bokeh background.
This lens is remarkably versatile and probably my favorite.

[T22] I am loving this lens! It's just a an overall fun experience using this lens, the 1:1.5 ratio is amazing and just makes things pop. The lens handles very well! The aperture and focus rings are smooth just like the rest of the line of Vespids. I will say the focus ring on this is a slightly noisier than the others but I'm not sure if that's just my copy. Although the lens is taller than the rest of the set, it still aligns perfectly in the rest of the set and actually weighs less than them too. The image is just so pleasing and really is a joy to capture with. The only negative I have seen so far is the focus breathing as it's very very prominent but that's the same case for just about every macro lens I've used. It's also not the most contrasty macro lens, but that is subjective on whether you like that or not. All I know is I am having a blast shooting with this lens for the short time I've had it and look forward to implementing it to my workflow!

[65mm] I'm impressed by the quality of this lens, the weight. It's the perfect add-on to my Red Komodo Kit - Used a RF to PL adaptor from Metabone and it's rock solid.

[31.5 mm] I purchased both the Pictor lenses and used them on a day 10 commercial shoot and they were just great. I used them on my RED Ranger with Gemini sensor and the images were stunning to say the least. Theres nothing even close to these in this price range as these really can play up there with the must pricier lenses. I rent a lot of glass and always will because not one lens is right for every project but I do know this was a great purchase and these lenses are amazing!!!!

[T2.8] Coming from spherical lenses - the price tag might seems high - especially for a relatively unknown brand. But it’s actually very affordable compared to the competition !
Anything cheaper for full frame will fake some of the characteristic of anamorphic lenses, and have no or very low squeeze. I wish it had a 2x squeeze - but the 1.8 squeeze probably allow to slightly more affordable price - while being optimal for 16:9 sensors, that are most likely what you’ll use it on...
Paired with a A7siii the image quality is amazing !
I recommend pairing this with a monitor that allow you to see the desqueezed image, as it can be fairly hard to focus without it, and framing as well can be challenging.
For an anamorphic lens, it’s very sharp, even wide open, I mostly shoot at T4 though mostly because it can be challenging to nail focus with this kind of lenses, as they’re slightly softer than spherical (not in a bad way, image is very pleasing), similar to using a light diffusion filter.
Overall, I totally recommend this lens, hopefully we see a 2x version soon too !
Also, if you’re in a limited budget, I would recommend the 40mm MFT version paired with a Blackmagic pocket 4K... the package would come to $4500 vs $12000... for a little more than 1/3 of the price, result is very close. The A7siii has an edge in low light obviously but if you’re using even minimal lighting (which you should), it shouldn’t be an issue. The blackmagic has the advantage of having a bigger screen - easier to manually focus without monitor.
Both are fantastic combos - and a lot cheaper than Cooke paired with an Alexa ...
