Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens better for sports or weddings

A: I use this as my everyday lens both on my 7D & 6D. Most certainly you can use for sports especially the 7D but I would prefer my 70/200 2.8 for that purpose. I don't shoot weddings but if I did, it would be in the bag. My want to consider the 2.8 24-70 for weddings but it does carry a heavier price tag and is larger in size and weight.

Q: 2. Compatible with the 5D Mark III?

A: The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 is fully compatible with the 5D III.

Q: 3. How does this lens compare to the 2.8 version? Is it worth another $800 to get the 2.8?

A: Sharpness the 2.8 is much sharper but for the price difference, I would more so look at the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens for Canon EF.

Q: 4. I have a Canon Mark IV and am looking for a second lens. I currently have a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens which I love, but it's time to get a wider view. Is it worth the cost to go for the more expensive Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens and has anyone used this with a Mark IV ? I think I could likely get away with the less expensive Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM Lens and just sacrifice the low light aspect. What are Mark IV users using for a wider angle lens over the 70-200 ? The 70-200 is such a great lens, it sits on my camera all the time. Thanks.

A: If you don't need the wider aperture, then sure....the 24-70 F4 IS L lens is awesome! In my case I only use it for cityscapes and landscapes (F8 to F11 mostly) so I don't need the more expensive model.

Q: 5. Is that good enough lens to shoot video with?

A: Yes I have used this lens for several videos

Q: 6. How does this lens work with the Canon D7 Mk II?

A: I have had this lens for about 5 months . . just getting to know it's personality well. I shoot it on a 7D MKII. I really didn't think the IS would be a deal maker for me and I primarily bought this lens for it's weight and size(assumed good image quality). It's just easier to maneuver a smaller lens, not to mention how much easier it is to hike and do other outdoor activities with a set-up of less weight.I attended a bluegrass convention last week with the intention of getting a few photos. But, I got the opportunity to video some street music. I did some hand held video with the 24-70 f/4 on the 7D MKII. Here is the link on youtube, https://youtu.be/EVlHJOfEUcM , you will need to copy and paste. This is raw video, no external mic, no speakers, nothing staged . . .it will give you an idea of the image quality and sound quality. There are other videos I did that evening posted too . . .some in complete darkness. I tried to get video with some other lenses, but, the IS on the 24-70 f/4 made a ton of difference.I also found this combination of camera and lens performed awesome in low light. You can crank up the ISO and still get some very good image quality.

Q: 7. Is it compatible with the Canon T5i? Thank you

A: Yes

Q: 8. Is the autofocus loud enough to be picked up while shooting video?

A: USM motors such as the one used on this lens are very quiet and very fast. There also is not a whole lot of focus breathing with this lens so its pretty decent for video but because it focuses so fast, its not perfect. You might be better off with the cheaper STM lenses for video. The stm are slower get really and are pretty quiet. I would not use an on camera mic so, lens noise is not really a concern anyway.

Q: 9. The rubber zoom grip is loose/stretched on mine. What is the model number to replace it? With the rubber grip from f/2.8 fit this one? Thank you.

A: The replacement rubber is not sold separately. Your best option is to contact Canon and send the lens in for authorized repair.

Q: 10. Is this lens Parfocal?

A: No. I'm not aware of any lenses with f-stops that are parfocal. In order to get a parfocal lens, you'll want to look into Cinema lenses which use t-stops. They're typically parfocal.

[Neoprene] After I bought my new lens, I really needed this, seeing how hard photographing wildlife can be on your equipment. This cover went on easily, and does a great job protecting my lens. Once I figured out how to get the holes lined up exactly, I have no problems switching to manual focus, or turning the Image Stabilizer on or off.

[Neoprene] These neoprene covers are high quality and provide great protection. The only change I may make is to add two slits with velcro closures to easily accomodate my camera straps.

[Neoprene] Tried having walking on the park for some bird shots... good i have this coz if not for this my camera would be scratch free no more, didn't notice the branch sticking infront of me and hit my camera, well, if you invest an expensive camera, why not protect it.

[Neoprene] I bought this to protect my camera during our rainy Pee Wee football season. It was easy to put on and looks like it will protect the lens. Perfect for our Washington weather.

[Neoprene] In the past, I've always used the plain black LensCoat Lens Covers, but with these Realtree Max4 covers (both this one and the one for the 500mm PF) give me the feeling that the wildlife I'm shooting pictures of can't see me. These work where ever I'll be shooting - from Colorado to Kenya.

[Neoprene] Love Lenscoat neoprene covers. They are stitched well and stretchable enough to fit your lenses. The only negative would be the cost and it is sometimes difficult to operate switches below the transparent window covers. On the plus side, these covers last a very long time and can often be reused on other lenses after switching lenses.
