Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why there's dust inside the glasses? Isn't it weather resistance?

A: Tamron does state that the Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 Di III VXD has moisture-resistant construction which has leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel to help protect your equipment for greater protection when shooting outdoors. However, leak-resistant is not the same as leak-proof, and there is the possibility that dust may enter the lens when you zoom the lens in and out, or minute dust may be inside the lens during construction. The dust should not negatively affect your image quality. However, if you feel the dust you see in your lens is affecting the lens performance, and if the lens was purchased within the last 30 days, you may contact our Customer Service Department to return the lens for an exchange or a refund.

Q: 2. Does the image stabilization work on a Sony camera?

A: The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E does not have image stabilization in the lens. If you are using a Sony camera with image stabilization in the camera it will work with this lens.

Q: 3. Has anyone found a tripod collar to attach the lens to a tripod? Mine slips when the camera is vertical.

A: A stronger head would cure your problem--I haven't seen a tripod collar that would fit this lens.

Q: 4. Do you sell a tripod ring for it?

A: Unfortunately, there is no tripod ring for this lens.

Q: 5. Will this be able to shoot high school baseball? Not really outfield, just infield. Is 180mm enough reach for A7iii camera?

A: It really depends where you're seated and how big the field/gym is. 180mm will give you pretty decent shots but perhaps consider the Tamron 150-500mm lens that is in a similar price range, but will give you way more reach regardless of where you sit. If you have more questions, or need a more elaborated answer you can call our sales team at 800.606.6969 or start a live chat to better assist you here.

Q: 6. Is it internal body zoom or does it extend?

A: The lens does extend.

Q: 7. I am new to this type of camera/lens set-up. I had a Sony RX10 that was stolen. Now considering a Sony A6400. I want to take photos of my high school aged athelte - soccer, basketball, track. Class A school meaning we are not in a huge gymnasium and can be fairly close to the soccer field. I don't live near a camera store where I can check things out in person. Would this be a good lens for what I want to do or is there something you would recommend more - bear in mind - new to this type of camera and lens, want quality and decent action shots, need zoom but no nosebleed seats where I am, I do not have a trained eye but recognize decent photos, I do load photos onto my computer and crop/edit a bit. Open to suggestions - need to be careful not to buy more than I need based on my limitations but also mostly what I need while keeping budget and lack of skill in mind.

A: The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E is a great choice for outdoor action shots with the Sony a6400 camera. It is fast and has great range. Please keep in mind that you will want to keep the shutter speed above 1/400 at f/2.8 for indoor gymnasium shots.

Q: 8. sigma 180mm 2.8 macro lens coat inciluded two lens hood (available) ?

A: SIgma 180 2.8 os has one lens hood only (not like the Sigma 150 2.8 OS that has 2 lens hoods depend if you use with a full frame or with a 1.6x sensor)The Lenscoat cover exactly ALL the lens and hood. If you get the hood adapter, the coat is not included

Q: 9. On the barrel, Tamron writes: "Designed in Japan". Where is it actually built?

A: The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E country of origin is Vietnam.

Q: 10. Im using the Tamron in the 70 mm macro mode with the a9 set to MF and what I see in the viewfinder is the macro image plus a small red rectangle in a larger black rectangle and a 4.7x script. I assume what Im seeing is the "spotting scope" image and when I hit the shutter release, I get a wide angle shot, no macro. Can someone please expalin to me me how to get the macro image?

A: What you are seeing is the focus magnifier, which is just a tool allowing you to make critical focus adjustments on the subject. To get closer focusing similar to a macro lens, you would need to move the lens within the minimum focusing distance of 10.6" to the subject.

[0.125 lb] I purchased this for my 70-200mm f2.8 for a football game that I had field access and for which I was not sure what the weather was going to be during the game. I wanted some general protection and this was it. It comes in 3 small sections that you slide over your lens & lens hood. They all fit very snug and there was no worry that it would move or fall off at any time. As it turned out, the game night weather was clear, but very cold. I had this lens on a 2nd body with a Black Rapid strap. It was great to pull up the 2nd camera/lens and not feel the cold metal of the 70-200mm barrell. The cover does not impact your access to the focus or zoom ring. I am not sure how the cover would do in more severe weather but I like that it does give basic protection from keeping it on sling hanging from my side.

[0.125 lb] Cover fits the lens well, protecting the lens from bumps and scratches in the kit bag. Also reduces the thermal shock to the lens when working in the polar regions and is gentler on the fingers in the polar regions.
