Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone use Laowa 14mm F/4 for InfraRed photography? Does it has a hotspot that makes it unusable?

A: To our knowledge, the Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Lens for Nikon Z has not been tested with an infrared-converted Nikon Z mount camera.

Q: 2. I bought this and no zoom stick came with it, does anyone know the size of the thread/hole on the zoom part of the lens?

A: Zoom sticks are an industry standard fitting and the Chrosziel Zoom Stick Lever Set should work with the Venus Optics Laowa Ranger S35 17-50mm T2.9 Cine Lens (ARRI PL). Chrosziel Zoom Stick Lever Set: https://bhpho.to/3L26VWc

Q: 3. Can we use this with a speed booster?

A: The Viltrox EPIC 35mm T2 1.33x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens (PL Mount) (B&H# VI35T20133X) has a long and invasive rear element. As of this time, there no speed booster made specifically for it, not for its sister lenses in its line. However, if you can find one that can accommodate the rear element then it could be used with a speed booster. It would likely also need a lens support.

Q: 4. Is the hood removable?

A: The hood of this lens is not removable.

Q: 5. is the aperture ring clickable, can the aperture be adjusted by clicking the markings on the aperture ring?

A: With the Venus Optics Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Lens there is a slight click at each stop on the lens.

Q: 6. Which size of Tilta Seamless Focus Gear will fit the focus ring?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1562190-REG/tilta_ta_fgr_5355_seamless_focus_gear_ring.html Please take a look at the link I have provided. The following Tilta Seamless Focus Gear will fit this lens.

Q: 7. Do they come with a hard case?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa Ranger S35 T2.9 Cine Zoom Lens 3-Lens Bundle (ARRI PL) includes a hard case with your kit purchase.

Q: 8. Canon R5 will not fire with this lens. What camera settings are necessary to be able to use this lens?

A: The camera must be in manual exposure mode and 'release shutter without lens' should be set so this lens can be used.

Q: 9. Is there enough clearance to use the EF lens with a RF adapter so I can use the lens on both my Blackmagic 6k and my Canon r6?

A: The EF versions of the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph S35 Anamorphic Prime 3-Lens Bundle (Canon RF, Amber Flare) should be compatible with an EF to RF adapter, but it would be recommended to confirm clearance distances with your chosen adapter. The rear protrusion distances of the lenses can be found here: https://bhpho.to/40oviq5.

Q: 10. Anyone have problems with dust getting in the lens since it's not weather sealed?

A: To date, there have been no reports of dust entering this particular lens.

[27mm] Ive used the 27mm for a while and was convinced I needed something a bit closer for my kit. Great tool to have and compliments the the other lenses as well for both my Komodo and R5C! Very little distortion, barely any breathing and the silver flare is not obnoxious! Recommend these lenses as they are small and light and great intro to the bigger and beefier vintage anamoprhics.

[25.6 mm] First off, there's a review with 1 start saying ( Not for professional use ) - I think that's an irresponsible opinion, without any room for subjectiveness. Since the definition of a professional really is nothing more than someone who is being paid for their work, you can't just say not for professional use, when there are many types of looks in demand by clients looking for exactly what these produce. I'd say these are definitely lenses for professionals in the right situation.

Quick mentiontions (tough body and mounts, strong gears, very controlled flaring, and ultra light).

I am not saying these are the best tools for every job, and I agree that there are some issues regarding the lenses distortion - which are easily noticeable in review videos (evidently the other person didn't study before buying), which for me, has all be quickly addressable in an editor with limited adjustments if I decided to correct it.

However, I have already had a few clients, including my own personal work, where the look and feel these lenses with the distortion they create is preferred, it added a feel to the image, it was the deciding factor to use these for the productions actually (feature films), it added a driving mood that complimented the narrative - so when I say they are a tool, I am simply saying - understand what your tools have to offer, and you will know if they are the right ones for the jobs, and in those cases, these lenses are phenomenal. They are a little too sharp for my typical feel, but I slapped a custom made filter in my matte box, and they have become the perfect look for my film making aesthetic.

Study these lenses on YouTube, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and make sure those strengths align with your objective - if they do, BUY THESE - I love mine.

[Super35/APS-C] I am truly amazed by the images these lenses can produce for the price and size! If you are looking for lenses that don't look sterile and have some character to them without having to sell all your possessions to afford them, then these are absolutely the lenses for you!

[T16] This lens is surprisingly sharp and very tiny. Color rendering is great, as is 3D pop. The only downsides are a thin focus ring (take care to keep your fingers out of the shot), and fairly substantial vignetting (which I actually like, as it provides sone character to the images, but easily fixed in Lightroom). Someone here said it was difficult to focus — but that problem is also easily solved. Just activate focus in peaking in your camera’s viewfinder. The best $300 I have ever spent on a camera lens. So much fun.

[T2.8] Researched this lens for a while before I decided to pull the trigger.
I'm very glad I did. It's built very well, with no defects or issues out of the box. I don't usually shoot in in-climate weather, so weatherproofing isn't vital to me. It is a moody lens with a great deal of vignetting. I like that look and can find a million ways to be creative using it, so it's nice I don't have to deal with that too often in correcting it. It's super crispy and definitely looks great on all of my Fuji X-mount cameras. I especially like the look, feel, and image capture of the X-Pro 3 paired with this little lens. It's not a super easy lens to just pull out and shoot with, but it is a super clear and lightweight lens to use when you are feeling creative with your photography.

[T16] Great value for the price. The aesthetics of the images achieved are beautiful. It would be nice to have a detailed manufacturer's video of the mount change from PL to EF.

[Yes] True 2x anamorphic with Panavision C style look.
T2 a little soft, but truly unique character. High build quality.

Wish there was a way to add lens data via the mount. /i data.

[55 mm] Really loving this lens particularly the lightweight. Have used Angenieux and Fuji lenses on a few features, and this lens cut right in with them. It's fast and lightweight and build quality is good as well. Definitely recommended.
