The FotodioX DLX Parabolic Softbox 48" Elinchrom Speed Ringfrom FotodioX DLX Parabolic Softbox 48" Elinchrom Speed Ringis a hybrid softbox that allows the use of a Elinchrom-type mounted LED or strobe monolight on the front side of the umbrella. The light-mountable center focusing rod helps to create the exact look desired by moving the light in and out of the parabolic dome. The rod mechanism makes it possible to adjust the zoom and see in real time, bit by bit, how the light quality transforms from soft to hard, broad to focused, and everything in between. The light quality can be transformed even further with the included double diffusion panels and grid, which can be used in any combination to give you exactly the look need to get the shot as envisioned.

The reflective silver interior provides a moderate contrast and a neutral color rendition that reflect more natural-looking catchlights in the eyes of a subject. The umbrella also has a black backing to minimize light loss and light spill while maximizing output. The DLX includes a front diffuser and inner baffle for adding diffusion to create a softer look, plus a fabric eggcrate grid to provide a more directional output and to emphasize the subject. This parabolic softbox also features a Bowens style rear mount that allows it to be used as a conventional forward-facing softbox.

Built with high-quality materials and fabrics, DLX Parabolic Focusing Softbox is designed for heavy-duty use with long studio hours in mind. It features a quick collapsible structure with heavy duty rod support. Setup takes only seconds; just hold the speed ring and pull the rods up to pop them in place to lock them. Tear down is a breeze too; just remove the light from the softbox and pull up slightly on the rods while pressing the quick release tabs on the speed ring and the softbox collapses with ease. The diffusion panels can even be left in place during tear down and storage, so the softbox is always ready to use.

Q: 6. What kind of stand should I get in order to use this?

A: The FotodioX EZ-Pro Deep Parabolic Softbox (48", Bowens Speed Ring) B&H # FOEZPDSBI48, is designed to connect to the Bowens speedring connection on your light fixture, not directly to a light stand. The only stand requirement is that it should have a higher maximum load capacity than the combined weight of your light fixture and the softbox. Estimating the weight of most monolights are approximately 6-7 lbs, and the weight of the softbox is approximately 3 lbs, you should use a stand that supports 10 lbs or more. If you are looking for recommendations, I would recommend the Kupo Baby Roller Stand (8.8'), B&H # KUKS300712, the Impact Folding Wheeled Base Stand (Black/Chrome-plated, 8.5'), B&H # IMLSPSFB8, the Impact Turtle Base C-Stand - 10.75' (Chrome), B&H # IMLSCT40M, the Manfrotto Alu Air-Cushioned Compact Stand (Black, 7.7'), B&H # MA1052BAC, or the Impact Heavy-Duty Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 9.5'), B&H # IMLS96HABI, depending on your budget and/or the type of stand you are interested in purchasing.

[Black] I own four of these. They work great. I have two that live in my trailer and I use on location and two I use in the studio. Nice soft light without breaking the bank. The color is good and they are light enough not to bust your stands.

[Black] This Softbox by Fotodiox is a wonderful product. Unlike the Octagon version of this modifier, the softbox version does not require extreme force to open making this very pleasant to work with. Definitely going to purchase a second. My only negative with this box is that it is a bit smaller than the advertised size.

[18] This review is of the FotodioX EZ-Pro Deep Parabolic
Softbox (48, Bowens Speed Ring).

It provides a very pleasing soft light at 4 to 6 feet from the subject. Removing the outer diffusion easily allows for an increase in contrast.

The build quality is good. Careful hand placement to avoid contacting the release button while pushing down with significant force is required to open and lock it in place. Small individuals may struggle at first to open it, but if you practice opening it a few times, paying attention to your hand placement, I believe most will prefer this to forcing 16 individual rods into a speedring.

[Black] I can't compare this to other options on the market since this was my first jump into a globe soft box. But I had an important shoot, a round table discussion of VERY powerful executives for a client and I needed a way to light everyone evenly with an attractive light. I bought this globe on a whim, connected it to my Came-TV 100 watt COB LED, and the light quality was AMAZING. I'd suggest that you look for an inexpensive hard case (or at least harder case than the unpadded bag this light comes packed in) because if you are anything like me, you have a lot of equipment and because of the necessary engineering techniques to make this work and fold down easily, it is very vulnerable to crush damage. I currently make sure to tell my assistants that this has to be "top of stack" in any loading, but I am looking for a harder case (which will probably be more expensive than this globe) so I don't have to worry about damage. The quality of the light is what I will be protecting, not the cost of the globe (which is strangely inexpensive). I will be buying more of these immediately. Instantly upped the quality of what I provided the client.

[18] Plain and simple softbox with amazing results. There is not much to this, sturdy build, opens and collapses just like an umbrella, option for single or double diffusion, even and soft results, and the price is very attractive.

Downside is the build. Although sturdy, my Westcott Octo is noticeably stronger. That said, the Westcott costs 3 times as much. Moreover, I havent had any issues with the build quality or any subsequent damage, it is still strong and in one peace.

In my opinion, you cant go wrong with this purchase, it is a solid softbox. As I do require something with more coverage, I am purchasing a 60 Octo version of this. Im loving this softbox, especially the bang for the buck!

[18] The first time I used it I thought how are these images going to turn out? but they looked better than I thought they would. I am impressed by this ball of light, and it is easy to put together. I had it up and running in about five minutes.

[18] Amazing soft light.

These soft boxes come with their own carry case and are easy to setup and store in my opinion.

Build quality seems very good just keep in mind that these are masssive soft boxes so carring and moving can be a hassle

[18] I have been using this light modifier for the last six months and it has quickly become one of my indispensable pieces of equipment on any set. Thanks to the bowen mount I can throw a 120d or 300d LED into the light and I have an instantly portable and powerful fill, kicker and sometimes a key. The light is soft and beautiful. I outfitted an old audio boom pole with a small cardillini clamp, making this light source super flexible. It can be easily positioned anywhere by a grip. Another benefit is that unlike a lot of other light modifiers, this softbox is very easy to set up and break down. I can set mine up in less than 90 seconds and breakdown is even faster.
