The FotodioX DLX Parabolic Softbox 56" Profoto Speed Ringfrom FotodioX DLX Parabolic Softbox 56" Profoto Speed Ringis a hybrid softbox that allows the use of a Profoto-type mounted LED or strobe monolight on the front side of the umbrella. The light-mountable center focusing rod helps to create the exact look desired by moving the light in and out of the parabolic dome. The rod mechanism makes it possible to adjust the zoom and see in real time, bit by bit, how the light quality transforms from soft to hard, broad to focused, and everything in between. The light quality can be transformed even further with the included double diffusion panels and grid, which can be used in any combination to give you exactly the look need to get the shot as envisioned.

The reflective silver interior provides a moderate contrast and a neutral color rendition that reflect more natural-looking catchlights in the eyes of a subject. The umbrella also has a black backing to minimize light loss and light spill while maximizing output. The DLX includes a front diffuser and inner baffle for adding diffusion to create a softer look, plus a fabric eggcrate grid to provide a more directional output and to emphasize the subject. This parabolic softbox also features a Bowens style rear mount that allows it to be used as a conventional forward-facing softbox.

Built with high-quality materials and fabrics, DLX Parabolic Focusing Softbox is designed for heavy-duty use with long studio hours in mind. It features a quick collapsible structure with heavy duty rod support. Setup takes only seconds; just hold the speed ring and pull the rods up to pop them in place to lock them. Tear down is a breeze too; just remove the light from the softbox and pull up slightly on the rods while pressing the quick release tabs on the speed ring and the softbox collapses with ease. The diffusion panels can even be left in place during tear down and storage, so the softbox is always ready to use.

Q: 5. Will this work with the Aputure C120d? Both are Bowens mounts but this is much cheaper than the Aputure Light Dome.

A: Yes it will. It is a little harder to deploy, but totally functional.

Q: 6. Is this useable with Nikon SB-900 and does it come with a speed ring adapter to use with speed lights?

A: When you order it, you will see a dropdown to select the adaptor you want--select Speedlight. The adaptor will work with any hot-shoe flash, including the SB-900.

[Black] This thing is a snap to assemble. Once you attach the diffusers via velcro, you leave them attached. This makes setting up super fast. Just take the softbox out of the case, unfasten the velcro of the outer diffuser just enough to get your arm inside, to reach the locking mechanism. Then put the metal end on the ground or top of your foot and push down to lock it open it like a umbrella. The lock easily snaps into place. When you’re done shooting, do the same thing but press the button on the mechanism while pushing down on it to take the pressure off and release it. Stick it back in the case and you’re off to your next shoot. You need to periodically check the screw on the Bowens mount to keep it tight. But that’s just common sense. People complaining about the ring coming apart just aren’t paying proper attention. The material is nice and the construction is great. Especially at this price. 5

[Silver] This feels well made and setup and removal are dead simple - works just like an umbrella. It gives a nicely controlled light, soft but with focus and contrast. The double diffusion allows for different qualities of light (I like using just the inner one, nice and crisp). 5

[Silver] Used this softbox for couple years now, love how light fallout. Easy to set up and use. The problem, that the lock mechanism does not lock from the first time, stitching and material hold well. The Mount ring fits well. Great modifier for Rembrandt lighting setup with a single light. [18] I do a few on-site T&I shoots and headshot gigs a year and the setup is so easy and pain free as well as the breakdown. Plus, the light is great. I was doing a shoot recently and the best space to do the shoot was in a baseball locker room. There wasn't room for wide softboxes to light the subject but this size was perfect. 5
