Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can this grip hold the external battery cover when removed like the Vello unit?

A: Yes, there's a compartment for it in the grip.

Q: 2. How does the Canon BG-E20 Battery Grip perform with Watson battery packs?

A: I just use the dedicated batteries from Canon. The Watson battery will sometimes give you an error reading. Even though sometimes you receive a Watson battery with the package, I still recommend using a canon battery. I hope this is somewhat helpful.

Q: 3. What is the material? Magnesium, plastic, or a combo?

A: Both - same as the camera body.

Q: 4. How is the battery grip attached

A: Not sure what it is actually called but it is what I would call a hand screw or a key screw that you turn a 1/4 turn to lock. Such as the screw you turn by hand to connect a tripod base to your camera.

Q: 5. In total, how many batteries can be in use at once, with this in play? Also when the battery grip is in use, can you still have a battery inside just the camera?

A: Two batteries fit inside the grip at once. The camera battery has to be removed to make place for the battery grip connector mechanism which will slide in its place, after removing the camera battery door.

Q: 6. Can the insert be purchased separately?

A: Unfortunately, we do not offer the battery insert for this grip separately. You may obtain this part by contacting Canon at 1-800-652-2666.

Q: 7. how do you remove the battery cover on the camera to be able to attached the BG-E20 Battery grip?

A: While you have have the battery door opened, look at the metal hinge part that attaches the door to the body. There should be some kind of protrusion at one side of it. It's kind of "spring loaded". You pull on the thing, which will allow you to pull the door off the body. All this is described (much better too) in the user's manual! https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/eos-dslr-and-mirrorless-cameras/dslr/eos-5d-mark-iv

Q: 8. what if i start a video and take a one battery from the battery grip and replace it with a new one ??? or can use the grip with only one battery ????

A: If I understand your question well, then if you start a video then you cannot take battery out from the battery grip, because you have to pull out both batteries with the holder, to remove one and then the video will stop as no battery will be in contact to provide power to the camera. Anyway it works with one battery, if the battery holder is pushed back to the grip and properly locked. I hope this helps :-)

Q: 9. Can the battery grip be connected to a tripod?

A: Yes. It has the universal tripod threading mount on the bottom.

Q: 10. Can battery grip work on canon r6?

A: Unfortunately, it will not fit. The battery grip you'll need for the R6 is the BG-R10 (https://bhpho.to/3k21XKi).

[1/4"-20 Female] This battery grip extends battery life at the expense of added weight. I use the Mark IV on a tripod, so weight is not a problem. I also use it with a Camranger / live view, so extending battery life helps a lot.

[0.895 lb] I love my new Canon 5D Mk 4 and the battery grip just makes it that much better. It means doing a whole shoot having to change batteries (usually). It also makes portrait orientation shooting much easier. With two spare batteries, I can get through a whole day with only one battery change.

[0.895 lb] Only used it once so far but after 5 hours of continuous use and 1900 pics later I still had 2 bars. Very happy about this.

[1/4"-20 Female] I love the bigger grip and when taking portrait photos. To me this and the 5D Mark iv is as good at the 1D'd and less expensive.

[0.895 lb] I purchased the Canon BG-E20 even tho it is much more money then an after market unit, I had purchased a after market battery unit for my 7d it never felt solid or sturdy, so this time I went for the canon unit so far I am extremely happy with it, easy setup the camera and unit marry well together, it is a little heavier but that is what makes it sturdy

[0.895 lb] I had thought about getting the cheaper, non-Canon version but I am sure I made the right choice. All connections are perfect with the plug-in battery and it is very easy to use with the standard batteries. There are many times when I need to have the camera on a tripod without moving for a long period of time to preserve my Photoshop changes on the initial shot. This allows me to not stress over waiting for client changes or approval. A quality product from Canon. Go with the real deal.
