Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Nikon D7200 which has autofocus on the camera. When shooting video, I use the autofocus to focus before the shot and then turn it off to video. Will the camera's autofocus work with this lense?

A: no this is NOT an Autofocus lens

Q: 2. is it compatible with 70d?

A: The Samyang 50mm T1.5 VDSLR AS UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount is perfectly compatible with the 70D. Be aware this gives on a APS-C sensor camera a slightly telephoto perspective along with being manual aperture and focus only.

Q: 3. Does it have stabilizer?

A: No, the Viltrox 50mm f/1.8 does not have stabilization.

Q: 4. Does the tilt function affect image quality in any way?

A: The tilt function of the AstrHori 50mm f/1.4 Tilt Lens (Leica L, Black) doesn't affect image quality in any way.

Q: 5. what are the dimensions of the lens, please? how far does the lens protrude from the lens mount? thank you.

A: The TTArtisan 50mm f/2 Lens for Leica L (Black) is 1.38x1.95x1.95".

Q: 6. How does this compare to the 50mm f 1.4 lens (SY50M-E) besides the unclicked aperture?

A: If you are doing video and particularly if you have a focus puller, you want this lens. Much needed features of a video lens besides the de-clicked aperture is the geared rings for a mechanical interface with manual or motorized controls plus horizontal focus and aperture scales for easy reading by the camera assistant. The 50mm f 1.4 lens (SY50M-E) is a still photo lens thus does not need these features.

Q: 7. Do the Sony and Nikon versions have the same good autofocus?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1678083-REG/viltrox_af_50_1_8_z_af_50mm_f_1_8_z.html This is a fully auto focus lens with the quiet STM motor and will work fine with Sony and Nikon camera ,All Auto focus functions will be good for both of these cameras

Q: 8. Has anyone tried zone focusing with this lens, like for street photography?

A: The TTArtisan 50mm f/2 Lens for Sony E (Silver) is an excellent lens to use zone focusing for street photography.

Q: 9. When the lens is tilted, can it stay in place or it needs be supported by hand?

A: When you tilt the AstrHori 50mm f/1.4 Tilt Lens (Sony E, Black) is will stay in place on it's own.

Q: 10. What is the weather-proofing on this lens? Can this be used in rainy conditions?

A: It is nowhere as well weather proofed as the Canon L lenses for example. It is very well built, but I would avoid getting it wet if possible. At least, I wouldn't be game to get mine wet if I can avoid it.A few drops shouldn't be a problem though.

[50mm] It's small, features a hot shoe mount, and testing it against 3 other light meters I trust it very well calibrated out of the box. BTW charging time with a 2 amp wall wart via USB-C is about 40 minutes. However you will want to put on some readers and actually read the instruction manual because the controls are not intuitive.

[52 mm (Front)] I didn't buy this lens for its quality optics or its sexy looks, I bought it for a creative project I'm shooting in black-and-white square format. The 1:1 crop factor moots any minor issues with edge sharpness and vignetting. The pancake design makes it easy to carry around and unobtrusive in public places. Manual focus is required, but practically everything is in focus when set to infinity. I'm using it paired with my Fujifilm X-T5 and the results are stunning. The absurdity of putting a $90 lens on a $1,700 camera and making art is very satisfying, indeed!

[f/2] I was looking for an alternate option to the Sony G-Master 50mm - something that wouldn't break the bank. My requirements were that it needed to be at least f1.8, needed to be full frame, needed autofocus, and wanted something smaller and lightweight compared to the G-master. I tried a variety of options and settled on the Viltrox - I'm glad I gave it a chance, since many review have been harsh, I almost didn't. The lens AF works well even in low light on my Sony a7S III. I was expecting it to hunt a lot more but it was fairly solid. Not G-Master level but certainly usable on professional shoots. It's sharp, sharper than I was expecting. I ended up liking it so much I also bought the Viltrox 24mm. Both together were still half the price of one G-master lens. I'm going to invest in some more CFexpress A memory cards with the money I saved. Woohoo! If you'd like to see samples I shot - check out Film Jams on YouTube.

[f/16] I purchased this lens based on user reviews and price point. Having just picked up a Nikon Z6 I was looking for portrait lens to start with. I have been pleasantly surprised at the results. Fast enough for most of the street photography and landscape type of shooting that I do. The lens was delivered quicker than I had expected. Packaging was well done and quite protective. The lens was on sale and saved me a goodly amount over all of the other vendors at that time. I am fully expecting to make additional purchases in the new future for a Macro lens. Recommendations have already been made to others who are also looking to pick up new mirrorless bodies.

[52 mm (Front)] I had tried simpler Lensbaby lenses but never really liked the basic ones because they were too fidgety. I suppose the composer pro might have improved results, but this is a far superior product for roughly the same money.

[Manual Focus] This was love at first sight. A fantastic lens that solves my tasks. If I were to describe how lenses work, I can only say: turn ordinary binoculars and look through them. Shows a wide-angle picture with options for taking Micro pictures.
With best regards. Karl A. Allan

[52 mm (Front)] Sharp, very little vignetting, simple to use, and Fun! Set camera to shoot without lens & Aperture Priority. Focus (use visual focus aid if you want), use auto ISO or manual ISO. I use the AstrHori 27mm f2.8 on a Fuji X-A1. I view the pictures via HDMI on a large screen TV.
Use the above settings, and you can easily concentrate on the Subject & the Composition. Set aspect to 3:1, or to 1:1 for Fun!

[50mm] Works very well for getting into tight spaces. The lens is fairly sharp - not the sharpest, but offers good value in terms of probe lenses.

F40 requires a ton of light. You'll also want a motorized rig of sorts for any movement as the macro lens is very sensitive to small bumps.

All in all - good value compared to the Laowa. Only down side is it an APS-C lens, so you'll get some crop when on a full frame lens.
