The black and velvet green/gray ZEISS 10x42 Terra ED Binoculars Black Green Grayfeature a redesigned ergonomic chassis that makes holding them more comfortable, especially during long glassing sessions. Optically, they retain the exceptional elements that are the hallmarks of the Terra ED, including compact Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms, SCHOTT extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, and proprietary multicoatings. These complementary technologies and elements work together to produce an immersive observational experience that presents clear and bright views, with accurate color representation and virtually zero distortion across the entire wide field of view. The 60° apparent angle of view also helps to minimize the visible hand shake common in higher-power binoculars.

The comfortable ergonomic chassis is made of a fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate to help reduce weight without sacrificing strength. It also adds impact and temperature resistance. Being resistant to temperature changes ensures the housing remains a constant temperature, even in cold and wet conditions. It will not experience the expansion and contraction common in metal chassis that can cause the optical elements to move out of alignment over time and hinder the binoculars' ability to achieve sharp focus. The chassis is covered in a black and velvet green/gray rubber armoring that helps to protect them from drops and impacts and provides a slip-resistant grip.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do generic lens covers exist that fit the Zeiss 8x25 binoculars? I understand that this question was raised earlier, but perhaps a secondary market has cropped up in the meantime.

A: B&H carries slip on caps by Kaiser. The slip on size goes by millimeters of the dement ions of the outside barrel of the binoculars. The caps slip over the outside barrel.

Q: 2. Are the binoculars evaluated by the 3 reviewers made in China or elsewhere? If so, where? I do not want to buy binoculars now made in China when the reviewes ones were made elsewhere.

A: Yes these Binoculars are made in China.

Q: 3. Can you loop the neck strap through the rainguard?

A: Yes. There are ways.

Q: 4. Is there an item that made in germany?

A: All Steiner binoculars are made in Germany. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Binoculars/ci/1010?sort=PRICE_LOW_TO_HIGH&filters=fct_brand_name%3Asteiner

Q: 5. You list the close-focus distance as 39.9 feet, but it looks like on the Zeiss website for this model that the close is 6.23 feet. Which is it, please? Thanks.

A: The Minimum Focus Distance would be 5.7' / 1.74 m

Q: 6. Would these be good for indoor sporting events and theater?

A: Yes , minimum focus is just under 6 feet

Q: 7. What is the warranty?

A: Limited Lifetime Warranty

Q: 8. How does the overall sharpness of the Terra 8 by 42 compare to the 10 by 42?

A: Sharpness should be almost equal. Stabilizing the 10X will be a little more difficult.

Q: 9. Does this come with a case?

A: Yes this binocular comes with a case.

Q: 10. Do these have a threaded hole to attach a tripod adapter?

A: Yes this model has a 1/4"-20 screw hole to mount a tripod adapter.

[14 mm] Bought my husband a pair 2 years ago and have wanted my own ever since. Clarity and ease of focus along with brightness while birding have made these my fav. Now we are traveling across the country birdwatching and I am so glad we made this purchase!

[42 mm] I bought these binoculars to watch the Ocean Race in Newport and have not been disappointed. They served this purpose perfectly. The optics are brilliant, you could see the sailors on the boats very clearly.
The binoculars come with a nice carrying strip and a very convenient box.
The only downside is that the cap for the screw thread to attach the tripod mount is very hard to get off. Going back to B&H solved that issue in a couple of minutes and the good thing is you can't loose the cap easily.

[3.155 lb] Clarity, ease of use, and weight are all excellent, as I would expect from Zeiss. One, very minor, issue is that the case doesn't have a shoulder strap. Other than that I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

[-3 to +3] I have been a birder since my 20's (I'm in my 60's now) and have owned my fair share of binoculars over the years. I always have a pair with me when outdoors hiking, bike riding, or doing any sort of photography. Zeiss binoculars have long been my go to binoculars since I got the 10x40 B/GA Telyt model about 35 years ago. In more recent years the Zeiss Victory 10x42 (the first SF version) have been my main binoculars. Other binoculars I've owned that have come and gone include Nikon Monarchs and Eagle Optics. My Victory binos had to be sent back to Germany for repair and my old Telyt binoculars had to get realigned, so I was left without any binoculars at all for a while and took a chance on these. I am very, very pleased with these Terra 10x42's. I love their compact size. They are bright and clear and focus very closely making them great for insects and wildflowers as well as birds. They focus easily and can be used one handed when necessary. Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled and not an issue in most viewing situations. These are great user binoculars and really are much better and more user friendly than the best binoculars 30 years ago. While I don't have my Victory 10x42's on hand right now to make a direct comparison, I'm sure I won't miss any warblers this fall because I'm using the Terras instead. These are a great value for the price. While more expensive binoculars are nice, these are all that most people really need. Even when I get my Victory binos back, I will continue to use these regularly. I'm very happy with this purchase.
