A: Patricia, Yes the bracket will work with the D5100 for I used it on my D5000 and D7000 the only adjustment I made was tightening the screws to make it a bit stiffer for use with my 18mm-200mm lens which is a bit heavier.The best think about it wad that as I used to rotate the camera for a vertical shot the flash would cast a small shadow to my subject with the bracket the flash stays in the frontal position and ...no shadow!Good luck and happy shooting(the brkt as rec'd was fine tightening was for me personally)
