Delivered in a suitcase with mic clips and a stereo rail for a variety of stereo recording options, this matched pair of dark bronze Microtech Gefell M 300 Cardioid Condenser Mic Bundlefeatures two microphones designed for accurate reproduction of solo instruments and vocals in live stage applications and home, project, and commercial recording studios.

Each M 300 utilizes a pressure-gradient design and cardioid polar pattern to offer enhanced rejection of off-axis sounds. The unique mic capsule features a 16mm gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm and is constructed from ceramic rather than metal to ensure consistent performance at a variety of temperatures. The capsule is protected by a triple-layer wire-mesh grille at the front and a dual-layer mesh for the rear-entry ports. Transformerless circuitry yields low noise and contributes to a high dynamic range of 131 dB. The 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response features a gentle 3 dB treble boost between 6 and 10 kHz to increase clarity and presence. An XLR 3-pin output ensures standardized connectivity and 48 VDC phantom powering provides battery-free operation.

  • To ensure the highest quality performance, phantom power goes through a DC/DC converter to raise the voltage to 60V; this high polarizing voltage makes for the mic's impressive SPL handling and keeps self-noise to a minimum.
  • In addition, the polarizing voltage is delivered to the capsule via an optical coupler, which decouples the supply, reducing ripple and virtually eliminates any phantom power supply noise and/or spurious interference.
  • The electronics involve some clever optically isolated powering technology, in which a high-intensity LED, driven directly from the phantom supply, illuminates a photocell, which drives a DC/DC converter. This innovative approach neatly isolates the capsule bias and impedance converter power rails from the phantom supply, which helps in achieving the mic's very low noise floor. This effectively performs the task of the transformer without the ringing or bandwidth limitation that is usually associated.
  • By providing pure DC to the capsule, you get both an improved performance and a lower self noise, most notably in the broadband spectrum.
  • RFI protection is high, making susceptibility to radio interference extremely low.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How close do you have to be to the mic? How much noise does the mic isolate without additional isolation (foam, etc.)?

A: This is a condenser mic so it is very sensitive unlike a dynamic mic. If we a talking about recording a vocalist in the studio about 6 inches is the norm. If you are dealing with a pro they will already have good mic technique and the louder they sing they will step further back from the mic. The same is true in the other direction. If they want to get a more intimate sound to their voice they will move closer to the mic and sing much softer. By moving closer they will take advantage of what is called the Proximity Effect. Proximity Effect is the closer you are to the mic the more bass response you will get. The mic will not isolate anything for you. The mic will pick up things you will not be able to hear like air conditioning rumble, the singers shoes if they move around while singing etc. The most cost effective way of dealing with this is with an acoustic shield. Like the sE Electronics RF-X Reflection Filter which will stop the reflections in the room and give you a much more intimate sound to the vocal and help keep some of the air born noise in the room out of the mic B&H # SESEERFX. See attachment below.

Q: 2. Is there a specific type of interface that must be purchased to work with this?

A: As the other respondents said it is an XLR connection, however not all USB interfaces can provide the phantom power that condenser microphones need. Make sure that your interface or whatever mixer you use make sure it has phantom power (48v)

Q: 3. In the description, there's this sentence: " You can power the mic with 48V phantom power." What does this mean? Do you have to buy an accessory of some kind to provide power?

A: In order to use this mic, you will need a mixer, interface, or hardware recorder with an XLR mic input, and the ability to provide 48v phantom power. Phantom power is a 48v charge required by the mic to work. As well, you would need an XLR mic cable to connect it to either of those sources, a mic stand to attach it to, and a pop filter if recording vocals.

Q: 4. I hear a very loud, persistent, high-pitched ring when I record with my laptop. Is there a way to fix that? Also, my table stand does not fit the shock mount :/

A: As for the the shock mount, please double check that any smaller thread adapter inside the thread area of mount has been removed. This often can be achieved with a penny or nickel. Regarding the high pitched ring, there could be many reasons for noise issues, I do recommend calling in to our team of specialists for assistance.

Q: 5. Does this product come with a wire for it?

A: No, an XLR microphone cable is not included with the MXL 770.

Q: 6. Where do I find my serial number to make my account on sound forge. All it gave me was a piece of paper that let me download it.

A: I apologize, but this type of request cannot be taken care of through this feature of our website. Please contact our Customer Service department by entering Live Chat, emailing directly to cs@a href= http://bhphoto.com, target= _blank bhphoto.com,/a or calling us toll-free at 800.221.5743.

Q: 7. Where is this mic made in ?

A: China

Q: 8. Could I mount this on a C-stand or a light stand or do I have to buy a dedicated mic stand?

A: This Mathews c stand adaptor 252038N and the Auray thread adaptor would allow mounting of microphone to a C stand. It is not recommended to do this in a volatile environment; a mic stand is best.

Q: 9. Is this mic compatible with this https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1023480-REG/auray_bai_2x_2_sect_brdcst_arm.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1023480-REG/auray_bai_2x_2_sect_brdcst_arm.html/a ?

A: Yeah! The kits themselves come with all of the materials you need to rig it up, too.

Q: 10. Is it capable of handling heavy guitar distortion?

A: Maximum Input Sound Level: 137dB

[Mono] I was looking for an SM-81 to record acoustic guitars anyway - it was recommended to me by a friend who teaches recording engineering - and I thought the bundle was too good to pass up. It did not disappoint. The SM-81 is clearly legendary for a reason. I've now made multiple recordings with it, with several different guitars, and the tracks sit perfectly in the mix with no additional EQ and no fuss. Today I tracked a vocal with it and was stunned by how well it captured my voice. Very very impressed with this mic and I'm not sorry I sprung for the extras.

[Phantom Power] In other words, excellent! Outstanding! I went back and forth between this mic and Neumann U87, having tried the TLM 103 in a similar price range and having been disappointed with the 103's tinny and thin response. If you're looking for a vocal mic, look no further. At half the price (or less) of a U87, you can have an authentic German large diaphragm cardioid condenser mic that is extremely quiet, with beautiful, buttery sound, and which is very forgiving and much more compact then the U87 form factor. I use this mike in a whisper room sound booth, primarily for voiceover and I can tell you the difference I am hearing, even between my trusty, industry stalwart 416: the noise floor is lower, with less detectable mouth sounds, and it feels like the dynamic range is greater than the short shotgun, with absolutely no boomy booth sound. I'm in love with this mike and I think you will be too.

[Phantom Power] Got while it was 40% off - great sound. Much preferred over the TLM 102/103. It's super sensitive to plosives/handling noise - so that's been a learning curve but I am very happy I made the investment.

[End Address] Used for live sound with Allen & Heath WZ4 and QSC 16 kW system. Clear and crisp, very controlable especially going into low note vocals. This is a new purchase. Will have to see how it performs a few more times.

[Mono] Let me try to break this down as short as I can. I had been saving and dreaming of acquiring a u87ai for years. Recently I had clients not pleased with the colorization my mojave audio 201 fet mic was giving my vocals for narration duties. So I started thinking of buying a tlm 103 after having returned it a year ago because it was just to harsh for my voice. Although it was silky and extremely detailed, It just was to sibilant for me and sounded harsh in the higher frequencies for me. So researching I came across Gefell and how it is actually the Neumann family still in charge of Gefell while modern Neumann mics are made by senheisser. So I took a chance, and ordered the m930. Wow oh wow. It takes the best of the tlm 103 and does it even better. It's just as silky, and much more pleasing. I think of it actually closer to the u87ai but without the boxy midrange that mic is notorious for. It sits between the u87ai and tlm 103, but sits closer to the u87ai. I think my u87ai desires have been put to rest with the m930. It's so clean, clear, and silky. My voice has a lot of natural color, so the m930 works wonderful not adding any more and actually makes my voice sound much more pleasing. I wish I would've gotten this mic sooner when I first started doing voice work. It's compact, with a big open natural sound. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

[End Address] After doing much research I settled on buying 2 of these. I had done some previous recording with 2 SM57's, but the SM81's have a flatter sound. I have only used these to record trumpet, but they sound is great and handles the loud sound and quick response very well. I also bought a Fathead Cascade to put right at my bell, and I personally like that sound better when I'm running only one mic. The 81's are going to sound great in the hall though. I do wish that they made one box for two mics.
