The matched pair of satin nickel Microtech Gefell M 940 microphones includes two large-diaphragm supercardioid condenser microphones designed for accurate, pleasing reproduction of vocals and instruments for live stage applications and home, project, and commercial recording studios. Additionally, two mic holders and a KS25 stereo rail are supplied for easy positioning in stereo configurations.

The condenser microphone capsule delivers a smooth frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz with a slight elevation from 7 to 11 kHz for additional presence. Its supercardioid polar pattern focuses audio capture narrowly in front of the microphone, picking up less bleed from other instruments and on-stage monitors and helping to substantially reduce feedback when sound reinforcement equipment is used. The transformerless circuit design provides for very-low self-noise for clean, distortion-free sound over a wide dynamic range. To reduce sensitivity to mechanical impact and structure borne noise, the microphone capsule and electronics are elastically suspended inside the compact metal housing.

The M 940's high sensitivity, standard 3-pin XLR output connector, and 48V phantom powering method ensure reliable performance with a variety of mic preamps. This mic set also includes a suitcase for safe storage and transport.

[Nickel] I'm not an audio expert. I use it with a phantom power supply and a cable to my Sony A7iii.
It has a nice area of sensitivity. I can move around a bit and it still gets good levels. It definitely keeps out some of the room noise and reverberation. Seems like a good value.

[Nickel] I'm using this with my PreSonus 24c Digital Audio interface connected to my M1 Max, Macbook Pro laptop.

I spend a lot of time on conference calls, and don't like wearing headsets and so I've been using a digital audio interface with an XLR mic for a few years to not have to use headsets or bluetooth earpieces when working with customers. My initial setup had a cheap(ish) Condenser mic from Audio-Technica. It worked well, and sounded better than my headsets or my airpods, but still picked up a lot more background noise than I would have liked.

This mic is a huge upgrade. The sound quality is definitely much better and my voice comes through much nicer. But it's also more focused. It picks up much less background noise from other places in the house and does a much better job isolating on me talking.

I'm not an audiophile. I'm not recording audiobooks or doing music of any kind. I'm occasionally recording technical guidance videos, but mostly I'm just on Zoom calls. For what I'm doing, this is probably a luxury item upgrade, but it's definitely an upgrade. If I ever start podcasting or streaming, I'll definitely be even happier to have this mic than I am already!

[Supercardioid] Let me try to break this down as short as I can. I had been saving and dreaming of acquiring a u87ai for years. Recently I had clients not pleased with the colorization my mojave audio 201 fet mic was giving my vocals for narration duties. So I started thinking of buying a tlm 103 after having returned it a year ago because it was just to harsh for my voice. Although it was silky and extremely detailed, It just was to sibilant for me and sounded harsh in the higher frequencies for me. So researching I came across Gefell and how it is actually the Neumann family still in charge of Gefell while modern Neumann mics are made by senheisser. So I took a chance, and ordered the m930. Wow oh wow. It takes the best of the tlm 103 and does it even better. It's just as silky, and much more pleasing. I think of it actually closer to the u87ai but without the boxy midrange that mic is notorious for. It sits between the u87ai and tlm 103, but sits closer to the u87ai. I think my u87ai desires have been put to rest with the m930. It's so clean, clear, and silky. My voice has a lot of natural color, so the m930 works wonderful not adding any more and actually makes my voice sound much more pleasing. I wish I would've gotten this mic sooner when I first started doing voice work. It's compact, with a big open natural sound. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

[Phantom Power] Got while it was 40% off - great sound. Much preferred over the TLM 102/103. It's super sensitive to plosives/handling noise - so that's been a learning curve but I am very happy I made the investment.

[Supercardioid] In other words, excellent! Outstanding! I went back and forth between this mic and Neumann U87, having tried the TLM 103 in a similar price range and having been disappointed with the 103's tinny and thin response. If you're looking for a vocal mic, look no further. At half the price (or less) of a U87, you can have an authentic German large diaphragm cardioid condenser mic that is extremely quiet, with beautiful, buttery sound, and which is very forgiving and much more compact then the U87 form factor. I use this mike in a whisper room sound booth, primarily for voiceover and I can tell you the difference I am hearing, even between my trusty, industry stalwart 416: the noise floor is lower, with less detectable mouth sounds, and it feels like the dynamic range is greater than the short shotgun, with absolutely no boomy booth sound. I'm in love with this mike and I think you will be too.

[Phantom Power] Used for violin solos and string quartet recordings with XY stereo technique, connected to Zoom H6 so far. Base noise is low, and high frequency pick up is impressive. For the price, it is a great deal. Highly recommended.

[Solid-State] As recommended by the sales person on the floor, following my desire for a narrow, but not too narrow angle of recording. Thank you again, B H for having someone who knows about the options available
