[Solid ND] While I won't know for sure until April 8th, and since an individual only has so many chances to photograph a Total Eclipse, you need to be prepared. The potential for catastrophic equipment damage makes the cost of the best filters a minor inconvenience compared to damage to cameras equipment. Hoya's reputation provides confidence I'll be ready in April...

[43 mm] I live in the Texas Hill Country and investigated lots of filters for photographing the annular solar eclipse, 10/14/23, and the upcoming total solar eclipse in April 2024. I went with the Hoya and was not disappointed. The filter worked beautifully and protected my Nikon D850 and AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens. Attached photo shot at 500mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec on tripod

[Glass] Used this filter for total solar eclipse pics on my. Pentax K-7, did a great job of getting clear images and also full sun pics

[Solid ND] I tested 4 brands and the B&H Eclipse Glasses gave the best view of the sun and felt the most protective!
The VisiSolar Smartphone Filters produced a natural white light in photos... but any position I held them on my smartphone, the sun images came out as an oval shape sun with a lot of glare.
So I cut a big piece of cardboard cereal box to make a wide phone shield, cut out a rectangle where my smartphone lens is located, and taped a single cardboard-framed eyepiece of eclipse glasses over this lens hole to make a much better cell phone camera filter.

[0.095 lb] What's not to like? I mean, if you want to take shots directly into the sun without burning out your chip (or your eye, if you use a DSLR) then this is the only option going.

As you can see from the photo, it does the job - that was taken with the Fuji 150-600 plus 2X TC for a focal length of 1200MM at f16, and since the Fuji is a DX camera that's essentially equivalent to an 1800MM lens on an FX chip. So, figure about a 36 power telescope. And the cropping (other than making it square) was minimal. The point is, having taken a few dozen shots (as the clouds were moving along each was a bit different) there was no ill effect to the sensor in the camera.
