For creative pros in the audio and video broadcasting industries, using high-performance notebooks, compact desktops, and all-in-one computers require multiple I/O ports. While these Mac, Windows, and Linux computers include high-performance Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 3 ports, they lack PCIe expansion slots to install specialty cards with dedicated bandwidth to each card.

Computers such as the Mac Studio and other M Series Mac computers feature powerful Thunderbolt/USB4 ports, each individually driven by their own dedicated Thunderbolt bus. To harness this dedicated power, Sonnet has a creative solution - the Echo II DV Desktop - a professional Thunderbolt to PCIe card expansion system that enables you to connect two (up to) full-length (12.28" long) PCIe cards at the same time, via two cables. The Echo II DV Module exploits your computer's full potential, connecting two PCIe 3.0 card slots - each with its own Thunderbolt interface - for you to install two bandwidth-hungry DV I/O cards in one enclosure.

Note: For maximum performance with more than one bandwidth-hungry PCIe card, such as the DeckLink 8K, this product requires connection to two Thunderbolt ports on your computer.

When your computer has only one Thunderbolt port, you can still use Echo II DV Desktop. Because each PCIe card slot is supported by its own Thunderbolt interface with two Thunderbolt ports, you can take advantage of Thunderbolt's daisy-chaining feature. Simply connect one Thunderbolt interface to the other using one of the two supplied Thunderbolt cables, and use the other cable to connect to the computer.

  • Thunderbolt rackmount expansion system for power-hungry AV I/O cards
  • Supports two full-height, full-length PCIe cards, each at full bandwidth
  • Two x16 PCIe 3.0 slots
  • Up to double the bandwidth for double the video channels
  • Supports most single-width Thunderbolt-compatible non-GPU card

  • Built-in 400W power supply with dual 75W auxiliary power connectors
  • Supports power-hungry, non-GPU cards, such as the AJA Kona 5 and Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G PCIe cards
  • Powers on and off automatically with your connected computer

  • Dual Noctua fans offer quiet operations
  • Temperature controlled and variable speed
  • Rated at 17 dBA
    • Two Thunderbolt 3 ports, reserved for host computer connectivity
    • Independent Thunderbolt connection to each card slot
    • 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt interface offers 3000 MB/s of PCIe bandwidth with Thunderbolt 4 computers and 2750 MB/s with Thunderbolt 3 computers
    • Compatible with Apple M Series and Intel Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 3 computers
    • Two Thunderbolt cables included
    • Two ThunderLok 3 Thunderbolt Connector Retainer Clips included

    • Mac (M series) with PCIe cards that have compatible drivers
    • Mac (Intel) with Thunderbolt 3 ports
    • macOS 10.12.6+
    • macOS Sonoma compatible

    • Windows computer with Thunderbolt 4 ports
    • Windows computer with Thunderbolt 3 ports
    • Windows 11 22H2 built 22621.819 and newer
    • Windows 10

    • Linux computer with Thunderbolt 4 ports
    • Linux computer with Thunderbolt 3 ports
    • Linux Kernel 5.4+

    • Echo II DV Rackmount features dual Thunderbolt interfaces and, for best performance with PCIe cards with high bandwidth requirements, must be connected to two Thunderbolt ports on your computer. Depending on the PC manufacturer, some computers with Thunderbolt 4 ports support each port with its own bus, or may divide bandwidth of a Thunderbolt 4 bus between two ports.
    • While the Echo II DV Rackmount features dual 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt interfaces, some Windows computers equipped with Thunderbolt 3 use an PCIe x2 lane implementation of Thunderbolt 3 technology that limits PCIe performance to 20 Gb/s.

[Thunderbolt 3] The Echo 11 performs as advertised and facilitates connection of my M1 Max MacBook Pro to peripherals and my network devices. I would have liked to see a display port output; it is necessary to use one of the thunderbolt 4 ports for the external display cable.

[Desktop] Have had it for 2 weeks and glad I purchased this dock. Using the Sonnet Echo 11 Thunderbolt 4 Dock to expand my connectivity with a Macbook Pro. Have not used the ports for any displays, only external hard drives and speakers. Really plug and play.

[Thunderbolt 3] I use one USB C cable into my MacBook Pro and everything else goes in this little guy. Works wonderfully. I even have the 49 wide Samsung Monitor.

[2x PCIe 3.0 x16] I'm one of the users who is eagerly awaiting delivery of a new M1Max-based MacBook Pro, but am using this dock with a 2017 MBP as a way to test it. So far, it's working exactly as expected (flawlessly in all respects). Initially, the new MBP will replace the iMac that is my video editing workhorse (using all Adobe Creative Cloud applications).

The iMac has well over 100TB of fast RAID storage and an LTO archive system connected via Thunderbolt 2.

If necessary, I will update this review after using the dock for a week, or two, with the new system...

[2x PCIe 3.0 x16] Great dock with just the ports that I need. Loving the power switch - something all the other docks lack that is desperately needed (Thank you)

[17 dBA] I use three different MacBook Pros with a bunch of peripherals (mic, kb, mouse, phone, etc.). Now when I need to switch from one MB to the other, I only have to unplug and replug ONE CABLE to access everything (and keep charging my machine). This is a revelation. Thanks to B&H staff for helping me find the Echo 11: my agent was top-notch. I am 100% satisfied with B&H and this product.

[2x PCIe 3.0 x16] I was a little wary of spending this much on a dock, but it has been a great performer!

I'm use it for as the central hub for my 16 M1 Max :
2x 4k 60hz 32" BenQs over usb-c to DisplayPort,
USB-C 10G Sonnet ethernet adapter
usb 3 ssd sata reader
Excellon 10 port powered 10 port usb 3 hub (running: keyboard, timemachine, resolve dongle, sd card multi-reader reader, a couple usb chargers)

Only issue I had was having to take the ssd sata reader off the usb hub and put it on a dedicated dock port-connection wasn't solid to the Mac. Fixed when it was moved to the dock.

I run my CFexpress card reader and Samsung T7 on one of the other Mbp thunderbolt ports when needed.

Super easy to plug this in to my Mac everyday, and when I'm not running a heavy workload it even charges the battery without the charger MagSafe connected.

[2x PCIe 3.0 x16] I was a bit hesitant to purchase the Sonnet Echo 11 at first being i had watched so many youtube videos and research so many thunderbolt docks and was originally going with the caldigit but it was out of stock everywhere. I got this guy in the mail a few days ago and i was like ok here goes. I'm a photographer and wanted to clean my setup and eliminate a lot of cables everywhere (coming from a pc desktop setup) and i must say when i plugged it in it just worked no issues as some other M1 users have had it recognized my 32 monitors and all. I just want to say this was a great purchase and am in love with it already one cable into my M1 and everything else into the dock! Simple and efficient!
