Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there any difference between this lens and the Olympus lens except the brand name?

A: The OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO Lens is the same lens as the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO Lens (B&H # OL2512ED). It has been rebranded as the manufacturer is officially now OM Systems.

Q: 2. B&H lists this as being new. What are the main differences between this one and the original 12-100?

A: The difference between the OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO Lens and the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO Lens is the brand name update from Olympus to OM System.

Q: 3. Can I install an Olympus 40.5mm Lens Cap (BH #OLLC405 MFR #260054) on this filter?

A: Yes, the Olympus 40.5mm PRF-D40.5 PRO Protection Filter can accommodate the Olympus 40.5mm Lens Cap.

Q: 4. We have an Olympus 35 MM 3.5 Digital Lens. Does the 52 MM clear filter have a thread to fit the 52MM tread on the lens?

A: Yes this filter has a 52mm thread in front and in the back.

Q: 5. Auto focus will work with the Blackmagic pocket cinema 4K?

A: While the OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm f/1.4 PRO Lens (B&H# OM2014MZP) is still in its pre-release stage, it has every hallmark of working with the momentary AF function of the BMPCC4K.

Q: 6. Does the B+W 52mm T-Pro Clear filter hav e front threads for a screw in lens hood?

A: The B+W 52mm T-PRO Clear Filter has both front and rear 52mm filter threads, which would allow you to connect a 52mm lens cap or screw-in lens hood.

Q: 7. How many ft-lbs of force can it withstand?

A: That level of detail is never disclosed in the specifications of lens filters. Depending on where the filter is struck the ft. lbf would be different (striking the metal ring vs. the glass surface), and even differs between locations of the glass that it would strike. So the short answer is: whatever breaks glass would likely break this. The long answer is: you'd have to measure multiple filters, being hit at different ft. lbs, in different locations on the filter itself.

Q: 8. I am interested in the "starry-sky" focusing feature. Does it work with all Zuiko lenses or just Zuiko PRO lenses?

A: The OM SYSTEM OM-5 Mirrorless Camera's Starry Sky AF also works with non-Pro Zuiko lenses as well.

Q: 9. What's the difference between the Pro and the Standard model/version?

A: Olympus makes only Olympus 37mm PRF-D37 PRO Protection Filter. We are not aware of a standard model/version.

Q: 10. Can a threaded circular polarizing filter be mounted on top of this clear protective filter? If yes, what size threads of the polarizing filter will fit the inside threads of this protective filter? Would it be advisable not to layer or stack these two filters? Is it best to mount only the polarizing filter when I want that effect and then when not using the polarizing filter, remount the protective filter?

A: As the Olympus 40.5mm PRF-D40.5 PRO Clear Protective Filter has 40.5 mm front filter threads, yes, you may mount a 40.5 mm filter onto the front of the Olympus protective filter. It is typically personal preference whether or not to stack filters. Some people never remove the protection filter and stack filters, while some purists prefer to use the fewest pieces of extra optics on the front of the lens' optical formula, saying you may get internal flare/glare and reduce sharpness. I would say if you plan to own both filters, simply do your own test with both filters on and with the polarizer only and see if you can personally see a difference. You can then use that information to decide if it is necessary to continuously swap filters or if you will stack the filters.

[Clear] Every lens I have ever bought previously, I have bought a UV filter to protect the front of the lens but have never been entirely happy with the effect, in particular on the sky.

Since buying lenses for my Olympus Pen-F I have been buying these Pro protection filters. They are not cheap, but I am over the moon with the high quality.

Simple order process with B&H - Fast delivery and well packaged.

[Clear] The TG-5 camera probably has a tough front element glass. It does not have filter threads to hold a lens cap or protective filter. To meet my purpose of near indestructible, I wanted a filter I could wipe off with a sleeve or rag and throw away if I ruined it. This 40.5mm PRF-D40.5 PRO Clear Protective Filter can't attach without the Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter. Between the clear filter and adapter ring the I feel more comfortable of putting it in pockets, glove boxes, packs etc. It seems odd to me that the two parts aren't sold as a package or kit.

[Clear] The main purpose is to protect the lens and this does that well. It is not water proof and the filter fogged up underwater on the inside of the filter. The protective cover fits nicely.

[Aluminum] The Olympus protector filters are thin, Zero coated, and perform flawlessly. This is my third Oly protector filter.
