Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do I turn off phantom power?

A: Instructions for turning the Zoom F3's phantom power on or off can be found on page 33 of the manual here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/817196.pdf

Q: 2. I've heard that the neutrik connectors may have issues with some XLR cables. I know someone who almost got the connector broken because the XLR wouldnt come off so I'm afraid of using microphones with non-neutrik connectos such as the sennheizer ew series that come with a 1/4 TRS to a male XLR. Should I be worried?

A: The Zoom F3 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Field Recorder features standard, locking female XLR inputs that should be compatible with a wide range of male XLR connectors, including those from brands other than Neutrik. The issue described may have been an isolated issue with the locking mechanism of that particular unit, but in general, the Zoom F3 should have no issue connecting and disconnecting to and from its XLR inputs.

Q: 3. Is there a compact mic add-on solution like the h5 for ambient sound or is it jerry-rigs only?

A: The Zoom F3 is not compatible with any proprietary mic modules like the H6 and H8.

Q: 4. How does this belt feel compared to the Orca waist belt?

A: The two waist belts are very comparable. Both are lightweight, padded, and offer a set of 4 Carabiners. The Ktek KSWB1 has one additional benefit; molle straps and D-Rings along the back offer plenty of rigging points for additional accessories.

Q: 5. What cables are needed to connect F3 Nikon Z8 camera and to Sennheiser MKE 600 microphone?

A: You can use a standard XLR cable like the Kopul Premium Performance 3000 Series Neutrik XLR Male to XLR Female Microphone Cable - 5' (B&H # KOM3005) in any length you prefer to connect the Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone to an input on the Zoom F3 Portable Field Recorder. To connect the line output from the F3 to the mic input on the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera, use a line-to-mic attenuating cable like the Sescom LN2MIC-35DB-3 Attenuator Cable (B&H # SELN2MIC35D3).

Q: 6. If the recorder turns off during a recording (in progress), can the whole audio file be found intact?

A: If the Zoom F3 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Field Recorder loses power while recording, there is a strong chance that the file could be corrupted or lost.

Q: 7. How many XLR mics I can use in same time with this device ?

A: The Zoom F3 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Field Recorder allows the user to record two XLR-wired microphones at one time.

Q: 8. Can zoom f3 use 14500 3.7v lithium battery?

A: The Zoom F3 is not designed for use with 14500 batteries. It can accept AA batteries, USB bus power, or the AC power adapter.

Q: 9. Any way to PAUSE while recording?

A: Yes, the Zoom F3 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Field Recorder can be paused while recording.

Q: 10. Any M/S support? It would be good if it could decode M/S mics at the headphone output - no real need to convert M/S in the actual recording.

A: At this time there is no information from Zoom about M/S support on the F3 Field Recorder.

[Black] I have been waiting for an audio bag like this for over 15 years! K-Tek has carefully thought about and implemented the needed features for this small product. All sides can quickly open to access mic inputs, time code, headphone jack, memory card, batteries, etc. The light weight bag can be easily worn on my shoulder or as a fanny pack after a very long recording day.

The recording sessions I get hired to do can be trekking through the woods (going through bushes on my hands and knees) to speeding and drifting inside a high performance car (experiencing a lot of Gs). The bag secures the F6 and makes it easy for me to record and manage an array of mics, mic cables, and my headphones. The bonus parts are the straps for extra accessories along with the very usable kick stand when recording on a table. I like this bag so much that I acquired a second one for another F6 recorder. For an upcoming TV show I will be traveling through remote locations to capture various ambience sounds. I can’t wait to venture into the thick woods wielding a machete in one hand, a mic in the other, and the small K-Tek F6 bag on my shoulder.

I HIGHLY recommend this bag!!

[Waist Belt] This is a super product. Easy to use, low-noise, and I have the ability to record 2 channels at once. The best part is it is so small and portable that I'm able to take it off trail with ease and record out in the sticks.

[Waist Belt] This is the go-to recorder for those in the field needing to be light weight and efficient. It’s reliable, proven and 32-bit float. Fantastic! Also thanks to B&H for standing by their customers and top notch customer service.

[0.835 lb] Great iOS interface, for better sounds in video. You need to put it on floating output.
Excellent limiter, you won't get clipping with it.
BE CAREFUL: If you load too much the power used as interface, say with two phantom power mics or lapel mics, it may start to act up, with a huge noise and interruptions. So remember, the device tries to save power...
The likely use is with receivers from remote lapel or vocal mics, and that does not take phantom power, so it's OK. Very thoughtful interface.
It's like someone squeezed a highest quality mixer down to fist size...
