The Apogee Symphony Mk II Thunderbolt Pro Tools HD Interfacefrom Apogee Symphony Mk II Thunderbolt Pro Tools HD Interfaceis an advanced, flexible multi-channel audio interface featuring the newest flagship AD/DA conversion, modular I/O (up to 32 inputs and outputs), and an intuitive touchscreen display. The chassis provides two I/O Module slots for a variety of digital audio conversion options that form the interface side of the Symphony I/O Mk II. The front-panel touch screen offers convenient access to nearly every setting including sample rate, clock source, headphone & speaker output levels, meters for all I/O and section navigation, as well as input levels, digital I/O, and configuration settings.

The rear panel provides access to the two I/O Module slots that are capable of a combined thirty-two channels of input and output, while the two Thunderbolt connectors ensure compatibility with newer Mac computers. Also included are Wordclock I/O connectors & termination, an option card slot, and a quiet digitally-controlled fan to keep everything running cool.

The Symphony I/O Mk II features a single ultra-high-fidelity DAC and headphone amplifier  with Apogee's Constant Current Drive technology, which was first introduced in the Apogee Groove. The headphone amplifier dynamically compensates for non-linearities of any connected headphones, providing massive power while maintaining extremely low distortion and linear frequency response.

The optional five I/O Modules allow the user to choose from standard configurations, or customize the following – channel count, analog to digital input, digital to analog output, microphone preamps (requires an analog card), and digital I/O.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this unit work as a stand alone analogue to HDMI converter to use to feed a DataVideo HDR-1 mpr recorder maintaining legacy video 4x3 aspect ration with the black bars on the sides of the picture but not black bars above the picture (kind of like a letterbox) without connecting it to a computer or using the Motu's own recorder?

A: No it is not a stand-alone product.

Q: 2. Unless my math is terrible, buying this and the cheeseplate separately would be much cheaper than the CP300M2. Any particular reason why choose that over buying this and a cheeseplate separately?

A: You can certainly pair this V-Mount Plate with a 15mm Cheese Plate. Some people prefer the option of an all-in-one solution, but you can most certainly customize this for a rig as you please. B&H # SHCP33 is a great cheese plate from Shape. https://bhpho.to/2Umu5uJ

Q: 3. How can you convert to use with arca swiss clamp?

A: You can purchase an adapter such as the Kessler Crane Kwik Release Receiver (BH #KEMG1001 MFR #MG1001) or SmallRig Quick Release Arca-Type Base and Plate (B&H # SM2144B MFR # 2144B)

Q: 4. Does it come with capture software? Or do you need to use an old version of Premiere Pro to capture? Can you also set how long it will capture for then stop?

A: It does not come with capture software, but should work on versions of Premiere CS5 or later, as per manufacturer specs. In and out points are not set on this device but should be entered on the software interface being used.

Q: 5. will this head work with Cartoni Two-Stage Tripod SDS System?

A: The 75mm ball on the Sachtler FSB 8 MK II Fluid Head with Sideload Mechanism can mount onto the 75mm bowl on the Cartoni Two-Stage Tripod SDS System.

Q: 6. Does this solve the balancing problem?

A: The Bright Tangerine Canon C70 DJI Dovetail MK II (B&H# BRC70DJDTMK2) is especially lightweight. Its purpose is to make it easier to use the Canon C70 with the DJI RS 2 & RSC 2 gimbals. A scale has been etched on it in order to help you to align the load to a preset balance point. That will help you to return it to a balanced position after having removed a balanced camera from the gimbal previously. When used with the Bright Tangerine Canon C70 DJI Dovetail MK II and the Canon C70 DJI/Zhiyun Riser & LeftField Universal Baseplate, the Canon C70 will be at the correct 15mm LWS height standard.

Q: 7. Will it work with usb-a ports using a usb-c to usb-a adapter?

A: Yes the Apogee Duet come with a USB-C to USB-C cable. You will not need to purchase an additional adapter.

Q: 8. Do I need this for monitoring from my computer to monitors? I have my comp usb interfaced to my Mbox to my speakers. Super simple set up.. can I benefit from using this item?

A: This product will not be useful for your set-up. Your USB audio interface is already handling the MATCHBOX HD's tasks.

Q: 9. Is the 100mm bowl properly compatible with manfrotto 100mm bowls? Looking to pair with Manfrotto 536K

A: Yes. The unit adapts to the following bowl mounts. Head Mount Type 100 mm Bowl 75/100 mm Bowl 75 mm Bowl

Q: 10. Would this work with the c200?

A: Yes, this plate and provided cable can connect and power the Canon C200.

[18.4 lb] At first glance you will just fall in love with how this interface looks.

with an all black design and a scratch resistant glass on top this is a thing of beauty. This whole design by apogee resembles apple's design Philosophy and it fits perfectly on your desk next to your mac . But the beauty of this device lies in the knob. Its clicky and extremely tactile delivering a luxurious-feel for dialing in monitor levels and mic pre gain. It also has meters on the front which shows audio level while playback and recording. Btw did i mention this knob glows.. Now enough of me drooling over the design lets talk about the ports. So the ports are available via the breakout cable with

2x Mic/line inputs

2x " Instrument inputs

2x " Balanced outputs

2 USB Type C ports and one 0 ohms headphone output which means you get the best performance with any headphone available today, regardless of headphone impedance

[18.4 lb] I recently upgraded to this unit from the UA Twin. Apogees flagship converters in this little unit are amazing. Perfect unit for vocals or tracking single instruments. Definitely recommend.

[18.4 lb] I upgraded my Apogee Element 24 to this new Symphony Desktop interface. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the headphone preamp.
I don't have a well treated room in my apartment. So mixing with headphone(Sennheiser HD650 is my main workhorse) is my usual practice. Element 24 has a solid HP. But the HP on Symphony Desktop gives me even better details and clearer bottom end on frequency spectrum. Compared to Symphony Desktop, the HP on Element was a bit muddy at the bottom end. The sound stage is also noticeably wider with symphony desktop.
For mic preamp, I haven't done any comparison yet. I'll update this post when I have time to do it.

[18.4 lb] I have had a Duet on my officedesk since the first one was released [X] years ago. Since I am constantly listening to music, reviewing mixes and making sure I have the cleanest, highest quality audio coming out of my Mac, my Duet is the only DAC I trust to ensure that I'm hearing music as it's intended to sound. And the Duet 3 is just the sleekest, coolest looking one to date. I love the big control knob, the ability to quick-mute without having to reach for my mouse, and how straightforward, intuitive and seamlessly it integrates with the Mac OS (for outputs and inputs alike). Apogee gear, and the Duet specifically, have just become such a trusted part of my setup - I don't ever want to listen to music out of my rig without it.
