A: All of our bases are equipped with a standard 3/8-16 tripod socket, but we include a 1/4-20 adapter with every unit we sell. This allows them to work with just about any tripod on the market, even the table top tripods that will allow you to mount your own head. A quick search on the B & H and I am confused too, but I can tell you which ones we have experienced. The FLM CP10, Berlebach Mini Tripod and on the low end Sunwayfoto T1A11-II.

Q: 2. What is the max. diameter ball head that would fit on this without obscuring the bubble level?

A: Hey Paul,You could mount a ball head with a maximum base diameter of 2.25, and still see/use the bubble level. This Acratech Leveling Base is awesome; superbly made, and quite functional. I use it with an equally superb FLM CB-38 FTII ball head (2.15 base), and it works great. BTW, I can highly recommend it with the FLM CP-26 Travel Tripod! A: Possibly to provide a wider range of adjustment when setting up a tripod on sloped terrain. However, I shoot landscapes in steep terrain often and have not found a need for more adjustment. I have other leveling bases and this is my favorite.

Has anybody bought this to use with the GP ballheads (which already have a levelling feature)?My GP-SS when inverted should be able to do level panoramas but if I need to tilt the ballhead up or down (while maintaining a level pan) I believe this levelling base is required as the ballhead base would need to be levelled first in order to rotate on a level horizon.

A: The GP-SS is unique in that you can invert it and mount the camera on what is normally the bottom of the head. The advantage is the now-top of the head, because it is now sitting on a ball, is easily leveled for any purpose including panoramas.
