Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used with the Menace Arm kit? If so, can a traditional coupler connect two rails for extra reach as a Menace Arm?

A: The Matthews 1 1/4" Grip Rail (Long, 41-72") is the one you want to get if you need to use with a Menace arm kit as the standard width for Menace Arm kits is 1 1/4". Any 1 1/4" Schedule 40 Coupler will work as an extender but please consult a Grip/Gaffer about proper counterweights when rigging an extension of this size.

Q: 2. Is this stand spring loaded?

A: No, it's not.

Q: 3. Is the grip head and extension arm removable, so as to add something like an Avenger D600?

A: Absolutely it is!

Q: 4. Does this have a turtle base?

A: This is a sliding leg. It is not a turtle base.

Q: 5. Does this come with to gobo's

A: Yes, one off the main stand and one on the extended arm.

Q: 6. I'm going to be using this for a DSLR camera mount for overhead photography. Does anyone have any recomendations for the best piece to use for mounting the camera to the arm?

A: There are several solutions that are available but it depends on budget and features needed. If you want to have the ability to adjust the pan and tilt of the Camera you will have to mount an adjustable head on the 5/8 stud on the C Stand. You can do this with something as simple as a double mafer clamp and a 3/8 rod screwed into the bottom of the head.

Q: 7. What size is the small knob? 3/4 or 5/16?

A: The small knob on the Matthews Hollywood Grip Head (4-1/2") is 3/8".

Q: 8. What size diameter is the pin?

A: The mounting pin is a standard Junior pin, 1-1/8".

Q: 9. Can you mount casters onto the legs so you can roll the stand around? If so, what size attachment?

A: There are a few C-stands that have wheels as an option, but not this one. However, you could construct a plywood platform and attach wheels to it. Just be sure to figure a way to keep the stand on the platform and balanced. Sands bags are a must when using C-stands for most uses.

Q: 10. Can this double as Dana Dolly rails?

A: The Matthews 1 1/2" Grip Rail (Long, 41-72") is not made to work as rails for the Dana Dolly,

[Aluminum] I use this grip for 350w impact studio lights that i clamp on 2x4's above the studio space. The grip clamps really well so i'm not worried at all about it falling down. I haven't tried to put two lights on it yet, but i believe it will be able to perfectly handle both. The product seems to have good build quality. I only bought one, but i'm going to be buying several more was i can squeeze some room in the budget. If you got really heavy lights, i might be a little more hesitant, but for lighter to mid-weight lights this is a great option to be able to quickly reposition lights on the fly.

[3.97 lb] This thing takes a strong hand to open, but then that's a good thing as it seems to hold quite a bit. I'd rate it as good as any out there that I've used, and it feels like it'll last a lifetime.

[3.97 lb] I use this to mount lights in tight places along with a Manfrotto 026 Swivel. I used it a few times to mount a GH4 for an overhead shot in a kitchen. Very strong spring, need a string hand to open, but it stays put.

[1] Definitely watch the manufacturer's installation video first. Take their advice: be prepared and have a rag to wipe the grease off your hands. Knowing that going in, I had no surprises (it's not that much grease, anyway). Installation was straightforward. Once installed, they glide really nicely. I chose the 26 rails so my servers come all the way out of the rack. They feel just as stable at full reach as they to everywhere along the travel. I have Rosewill 4U cases, and these fit perfectly.

[Aluminum] It holds 6-7 cards plus 4-5 notes. Easy to access any card you need while keeping the overall thickness very low. Like the design.
