Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Trying to find a solid tripod for my Pentax 645z without breaking the bank. Is this tripod up for the task of supporting a medium format camera?

A: I use a Nikon D800 with a battery grip and a 70-200 and it's very stable.

Q: 2. Has anyone tried Canon full frame with Tamron 150-600 lens with this tripod. Thanks. And will it fill gimbal head wtih 3/8-16. I think will need some screw etc.?

A: Nikon with 70-200. When everything is locked into position it's fine and holds steady. The tripod is light weight but strong, I really like it. But, the head Is a bit of a pain making small, quick adjustments. My last tripod had a handle that often got in the way but was easy to to make positioning adjustments.

Q: 3. Would you recommend using this with a canon 100-400 II on a 6d? It's within my price range but I would like to feel secure leaving my equipment on there for at least a short period of time. If not, does anyone have recommendations for another tripod not too far from this price range?

A: It's rated at 26 lbs. I've only used it with a 70D with battery grip (similar size to your 60D?) a 300-700 4-5.6 L on it but not with a collar. The mounting plate allows for some movement of the mount point, but I think I'd look at getting an optional, longer, ARCA-stile mount plate to give you a few extra inches of flexibility - that should allow you to mount over the center of gravity better. the legs extend wide enough and should not be a problem. if you're concerned about stability, there is a hook under the center column to which a sandbag or weight can be tied to help with that. I was also evaluating INDURO aluminum models as well. This won-out on price point and features. Very nice fit/finish.

Q: 4. Will this work on a C100?

A: Should work so long as C100 has the standard 1/4 female tripod screw hole.

Q: 5. I intend to use this with a Nikon D750 with battery pack and Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens. Will it support the weight of this setup?

A: I used it on my Nikon D800e/Nikon 70mm-200mm/f2.8 combo and battery pack with two legs fully extended on flat surface. It seems to do just fine. However, I wouldn't recommend using under any windy conditions, unless weight are add it. Hope this help.

Q: 6. Is the head removable?

A: yes the head will screw off the centre leg

Q: 7. Will this work with the Zacuto Universal Baseplate?

A: Yes, this 15mm rod will work with not only the Zacuto VCT Universal Baseplate, it will be compatible with any 15mm LWS system.

Q: 8. Any suggestions to add extra safety, so my camera with my heavy 400mm, pointing straight up? It makes me very nervous with only a plate holding the weight, I fear it will all slip off and crash to the ground

A: The Arca-Swiss type mounting plate system used on this tripod has a built-in slip prevention feature built into it. If the knob that tightens the plate to the ball head becomes loose enough to allow the plate to slip, it will only slip about a half inch or so before being stopped by this feature. If the knob loosens further, then the plate can be released altogether. However, you might want to consider getting a larger tripod with a wider splay of the tripod legs for your heavy setup.

Q: 9. Does this tripod pan and tilt?

A: Yes.

Q: 10. Can you suggest a video tripod head to go along with the Mefoto GlobeTrotter? I will mainly be using a Sony RX10 camera.

A: No I'm sorry, I use mine with a DSLR only

[15 mm] I'll use this with Lanparte Double 15mm Rod Clamp with 1/4 Screw and a Sachtler Ace Baseplate. Rods are sturdy and don't flex under the loads I put on it.

[Aluminum] These are lightweight and strong rods for a great price. It's hard to find carbon fiber rods with threaded ends (a requirement for my application). BUT the threads on the ends are 3/8 not M12 as the description states, so they won't work with the couplers I ordered.
3/8-16 male-to-male screw adapters like B&H # CAC1227 will do it, but the center section of those is 16mm so the combined rods will have a bump in the middle.
