Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the difference between the Enterprise and Standard versions?

A: You can research this. Generally, enterprise drives have improved reliability, data integrity, and performance.

Q: 2. Is there a reliability issue between 3TB and 2TB drives, some suggest 3TB drives are bound to fail sooner than 2TB, is this true? What will be the file transfer rate if I'm using this on windows PC with USB 2.0. I do not have a MAC and plan to install a PCIe for USB 3.0 if my PC supports it. Thanks

A: A large video library for a production company was duplicated on 2 of these drives. One is with me to work with my Mac. The other is with my editor and his PC and AVID set up. We have only had the drives since October 2016. A 1TB Glyph RAID drive did fail after 6 years. So I do not think the size of the drive matters. The 1TB drive was kept indoors in an edit facility. Sometimes S*** happens.

Q: 3. Anyone have experience editing 4K multi cam on these drives? How was the performance?

A: The Glyph Technologies 40TB Blackbox PRO RAID 2-Bay RAID Array (2 x 20TB, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2) perform well for multicamera 4K video editing.

Q: 4. Are the drives swappable in this array?

A: Not from what I can tell

Q: 5. Looking at the picture displayed it shows FireWire and eSata. Where are the thunderbolt ports?

A: Check the picture again, they might have put up an incorrect one before. This unit only has: 2 x Thunderbolt 2 | 1 x USB 3.0 Type-B

Q: 6. hard disk

A: It comes with the hard drives included.

Q: 7. If a drive fails, can you swap it out for another one?

A: This unit is not meant to be self-serviced by a user.

Q: 8. What brand of hard drives are inside the glyph raid unit ?

A: Glyph Technologies do not publish the brand of drive they have installed.

Q: 9. formatted for mac?

A: yes, mac os X Extended (journaled)

Q: 10. how do you change the raid setup?

A: There's a switch on the back to change from RAID 0 and 1. Mine came in RAID 1 and I didn't want to change it to RAID 0, but my guess is the change isn't too complicated, especially when the drive is empty.

[1x Fan] Reliable and does its job. A little pricey but what do you expect for a professional purchase.

[10.655 lb] Well, so far so good. I used it in raid mode and it took a long time to "time machine" a 2010 macbook pro with about 700 Gigs. Like 10 hours. No complaints, just saying'.

We'll see if it lasts 5 years. In a morbid way, I am looking forward to a HD failing, plugging in a new one, and seeing if the raid re-builds the new HD.

Oh, by the way, online transaction and delivery exceptionally good.

[macOS] Easy to set up RAID 1 I am using as my primary backup for my entire archive. Runs fast, using the drive with a 2011 MacBook Pro w/ Thunderbolt 1, did 3TB in 6hours. Purchased this over a G-Tech similar for their 3-2-1 Warranty, that hopefully will not have to do but is great for peace of mind.

[44 TB] Heavy duty, quiet, and lots of room! Great price too! Just what I needed to keep a secure backup of my audio production files archived. The files copied faster than any previously owned backup drive. Very easy to change the RAID mode. I'm using it mirrored for extrasecurity.

[10.655 lb] I bought this for my 2015 MacBook Pro to edit videos directly on it and that works very well. The fan is audible but not annoyingly so. Happy with it so far!

[1x Fan] I based my choice on a previous purchase, a Glyph Studio 2 Tb external drive.  I have been very happy with it, it works fine after 4 years.  Glyph is an upstate NY company and I like being able to promote local industries.  The Studio RAID did need a call to complete the install.  The supplied instructions are a bit too simple especially if you are going to use a PC.  I got good advice from an employee and he talked me through the install.  It is not that complicated but if you dont do it on a regular basis it is easy to miss a step.  I am using the drive for photo work  and feel confident that I will get good results.
