Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this compare to the much more expensive Manfrotto 231B?

A: The Manfrotto 231B is a bit taller, however the Impact Column Stand offers a longer spigot on the sliding mount to attach a light at the top or bottom more easily without having to remove it.

Q: 2. Is the column steel or aluminum ?

A: The following unit is made of aluminum.

Q: 3. What is the best way to include a counterweight sandbag or other weight when using the stand in boom mode? Are people putting a sand bag somehow on the opposite end of the boom arm? Or something else?

A: It comes with a very nicely made canvas bag that you can fill with sand and hang from the hook that's at the end of boom. This is a fantastic boom stand...well worth the money.

Q: 4. Can casters be added to this stand?

A: Yes, you would use the A9000N

Q: 5. Does anyone know the maximum load for the boom arm at minimum extension? I'm trying to decide between this stand and the Kupo Junior Boom, which can support 66 lbs vertically and in the minimum boom position. I ask cause I'll be using it with my Aputure 300x which is 25 lbs + any light modifiers.

A: The max load when the boom arm is extended is 17.6 lbs.

Q: 6. What's total length of stand after adding optional wheels? Want 2 buy wheels then bag but most bags r not longer than 65 inches.

A: Unfortunately, we do not have a case large enough for this stand.

Q: 7. Can anyone recommend a carrying case for this stand?

A: The Arriba Cases AC185 Lighting Truss Rolling Bag B&H # ARAC185 would be suitable to hold the Avenger A4050CS. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 8. Is the column for MFR #LSP-SCS steel or aluminum? "Chrome Steel" suggests steel but both materials are listed in the specs.

A: Yes, the column on the Impact Column Stand with Sliding Arm (Chrome Steel) is steel.

Q: 9. Can this hold elinchrom rx 1 flash head?

A: Yes, an Elinchrom RX1 Flash Head can be used with this Impact stand.

Q: 10. Can a camera be mounted on this stand, or is there some other type of column stand for that purpose?

A: If you purchase the Kupo Baby Ball Head Adapter, B&H # KUKG014212, along with a ball head or other tripod head, then yes, you may use a camera with the Impact Column Stand. For a column stand with longer arm for your usage, the Manfrotto Mini Salon 190 Camera Stand, B&H # MA806, or the Arkay 6JR-6 Mono Stand Jr, B&H # AR6JR6, are camera stands that will work for your usage needs.

[Steel] I'm a commercial photographer working in volume youth sports photography. I will have anywhere for 20 to 500 athletes come through in a session and use to use a boom light stand for my key. While it worked, it took time to adjust my light for the sake of the height of an athlete. The Column Stand with the Sliding Arm makes my workflow so easy now, as I can simply squeeze and adjust, drastically reducing the time of adjusting my key light.

[Optional] I have another K&M stand and theses stands are built tough. I bought this one because I sit at a keyboard and this stand can be adjusted lower. It also folds down to fit in my gear bag.

[Optional] I bought three AKG stands years ago and loved them. The K&M stand is exactly like them except they are black. They break down to a very small profile and are very versatile. Rock solid! The only drawback is the price.but the quality overrides that.

[Yes] This really changed the game for my newborn photography. So easy to move around the studio and allows my light to go all the way to the ground.

[Yes] This two-section stand is perfect for a wide variety of applications, from piano to vocalist to solo instruments. It is short enough to mic a piano with the cover on half-stick, without removing the boom, and tall enough to mic a piano with a typical high/low pair of mics. It has a heavy base and good leg circle to prevent tipping. It's worth the extra money for a heavy duty stand.

[5/8" Stud] It's really 4.5 stars. These are great stands - sturdy and not too high so they fit in my basement. Seems like these will last a long time - I do wish the legs didn't spread so wide, as I use 2 of them and they can be a trip hazard

[5/8" Stud] This is a solid stand at a reasonable price ... taller then several competitors ... easy to assemble ... the locking wheels are very high quality ... I can't emphasize enough how easy this stand is to use ...
very happy with this purchase ...

[5/8" Stud] Stands always need to be moved around, so why don't they all have wheels? I wonder why it took so long for me to discover this column stand with sliding arm. It moves easily and you can adjust it vertically with one hand. I have started putting my camera on it. It's way faster to adjust than a tripod, and I use a wired clicker to avoid touching the stand while shooting (it's not a tripod after all, so susceptible to shakes). Others have commented on the leg span. It's pretty wide, but for the height, and considering the weight of some light fixtures, it needs the extra base width. I have another Impact wheeled stand with a smaller base, so I can switch bases depending on present needs. I am going to buy a few more of these stands as soon as finances allow!

[Optional] The K&M 252 has proven to be my favorite microphone stand. I ended up buying six of them. I work strictly mobile, and never know exactly what situations I will encounter. The 252 has 3 sections in the base and two in the boom. I can place a mic near the floor, or high enough above a seated musician for a spot mic. I can record a piano on half-stick without removing the boom, or high and low over the strings. The stand is surprisingly heavy, which lends great stability when the boom is extended.

[Steel] I am a pet photographer and needed the ability to easily and quickly alter my lighting in studio. After quite a bit of research, I decided on the Impact Column stand and I couldn't be happier! This stand is easy to put together, compact, easy to maneuver, and super sturdy! I trust it even with my heaviest light and modifier. Having this stand has allowed me to cut down on time during events and also has upped my studio images by so much that I can now position the light to suit the subject instead of needing the subject to be in the perfect position. I highly recommend this stand and will most likely be ordering a second one shortly!
