Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone compared the Kirk MPA-2, the ProMediaGear Scepter HM1, and the Really Right Stuff MH-01 LR? All three are high-end versions of the old Manfrotto 3232 tilt head swivel. The question is: are they worth the money and which of the three is the best option?

A: I can't compare the three heads, but I use the Really Right Stuff head (with the Arca Swiss plate). I use this head paired to a Gitzo monopod when shooting wildlife from the deck of of a ship. It worked very well this year shooting in both Baja and the Arctic, and easily supported a heavy telephoto lens. The Really Right Stuff head is a bit over priced (as most of their gear is), but it is well made and should last for years.

Q: 2. I would like to know if this monopod head will screw onto the Platypus Max? Thanks

A: It has 3/8"-16 Socket , you would need a reducer bushing Oben 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing B&H # OB1039

Q: 3. Is it better to use this monopod head on a monopod vs. a ballhead? If so, why?

A: That would simply be personal preference. As a monopod is a single-leg support that can be tilted and rotated in you non-shooting hand, you can use a tilt head to tilt the camera up and down while using your non-shooting hand to pivot and further tilt the monopod itself and go through a wider range of camera positions. Due to the ball head's ability to itself move in a wide range of positions, using a ball head would require less movement of the monopod with your non-shooting hand compared to using a tilt head. It also depends on what you are photographing. If you are photographing something with predictable movement, a tilt head would be more than fine for your usage. If your subject is more erratic (such as a runner or following birds in flight and on the ground), while you can achieve the movement with a tilt head, a ball head may require less movement.

Q: 4. re: The indexed quick release clamp is oriented for horizontal left to right camera tilting but you can change the orientation to vertical fore and aft lens tilting by turning the clamp 90 degrees using the supplied hex key. I believe this copy applies to a less expensive RRS monopod head. It appears that the top platform / clamp of this monopod head can be quickly reoriented without tools using a thumb screw. Can B&H confirm?

A: There are three versions of the RRS monopod head: 1) Standard Screw Knob Clamp; 2) Standard Lever-Release Clamp; and, 3) Indexing Lever-Release Clamp. The two standard versions require a hex key to reorient the clamp whereas the indexing version and be reoriented without tools.

Q: 5. the standard release clamp is a RRS B2-LR-II 60mm lever-release clamp (according to RRS website). I already own that clamp and would like to buy the ballhead without a clamp. I'm assuming that I'd need a Flat-Head 1/4"-20 x 3/4" Clamp Mounting Screw but nothing else to use the clamp I already own. Is that correct?

A: The Really Right Stuff Monopod Head with no Quick Release Installed includes a Flat-Head 1/4"-20 x 3/4" Clamp Mounting Screw (Installed). That is all you would need to install a compatible QR clamp.

Q: 6. What are the weight and dimensions of the head alone?

A: The weight of the Leofoto MPG-01 Side Mount Monopod Head is 325 gm and the dimensions are 106 mm X 63 mm X 80 mm.

Q: 7. What is the ball size?

A: The diameter of the ball on the Leofoto LH-40LR Low-Profile Ball Head with Lever Release Clamp is 40mm. The "40" in "LH-40LR" refers to the ball diameter.

Q: 8. Like all RRS ballheads, why isn't there an option to buy this monopod head without a clamp?

A: There is, click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/39Ge8JR

Q: 9. Will this fit the mefoto walk about monopod?

A: Really Right Stuff Monopod Head with Indexing Lever-Release Clamp BH #REMH02LR will not directly fit the MeFOTO WalkAbout Aluminum Monopod so you will need a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing.

Q: 10. last picture shows the head mounted on a monopod panning clamp. Is this panning clamp included with the product?

A: No, the Leofoto MPG-01 Side Mount Monopod Head with Arca-Type QR Clamp does not come with the panning clamp.

[Black] RRS maintains its reputation for quality. Use of monopod head makes keeping monopod steady easier.

[Black] I have tried multiple different tilt heads and this one is by far the best. First of, the release clamp works really well. It has this two step release system to make sure it's easy for you to open and yet won't open on its own. And, well, the knob that releases the tilt head is fantastic. It's large, unlike most of the other heads, thus it's much easier to use and control. You don't need to put a lot of force to control it. The whole tilt head also has a great weight to it and feels incredibly sturdy. This is a must have tilt head.

[Black] Easy to use, lightweight but very sturdy. I've mounted my Canon 5D MK IV with the battery pack and a 600mm lens on my monopod and the RRS head is flawless!

[Aluminum] This tilt-head is right for long lenses where you're chasing fast-moving stuff. Better than a ball-head, which wants to flop sideways when the action is quick.
The RRS head holds the lens solidly and comfortably.
Some worthwhile hurdles to get over - tilt-heads seem to have their own lingo, so your average monopod user lands up scratching his head. Indexing Lever Release? Vertical and horizontal action? Etc.
RRS has youtube videos. With a little searching, all the stuff becomes clear.
Result: A tilt-head that makes the big glass nimble when the birds fly, or aircraft flash by, or when one is chasing a bug that won't stay put.

[Black] As usual, a great product from RRS. Yes, it's expensive, but I'll never need to buy another one. Plus, I can rotate the mounting plate if needed and it has the notch-outs for the safety pins found on their lens mounts - and those pins have saved my lens from tumbling off a time or two. Well worth the price IMO.

[Aluminum] I've owned this head 5-6 months at this point and have found it to be more advantageous than I originally thought to be able to tilt the camera independent from the monopod. It's not the lightest or least expensive option, but has that second to none RRS fit and finish. Silky smooth to use. Lever locks up the shoe with confidence.
