Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How sharp is this lens full opened?

A: When you have it wide open (T1-1.4) it will feel more like a vintage lens. It will be ok in terms of sharpness and have low contrast. Around T2 you will notice that it will get more contrast and get sharper. The lens performs its best in regards to sharpness and contrast between T4 and T5.6.

Q: 2. I can't find any 88mm clip on MB adapters from ARRI. Is there any other alternative to use these with the LMB?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster S35 20, 35 & 50mm T1 Cine 3-Lens Bundle (Canon RF) have 77mm filter threads, the front diameter is 88mm, but this doesn't mean you need an 88mm clip necessarily, just 77mm.

Q: 3. Is it possible to buy these cine lenses with focusing distances marked in meters rather than feet?

A: At this time we only offer these lenses with distances measurements in feet.

[ 0.8 MOD] This lens is a little soft at f/0.95 (but I knew that before purchasing it), especially at close distance, but it works quite well with portraits and at mid-distances, where it sharpens up a little. The 0.95 aperture does a great job of conveying a 3 dimensional look and the bokeh is very pleasant too. However, if you're into that digital, razor-edge sharpness, this lens is probably not for you. But if you're trying to emulate the gentle look of large format film, then I wouldn't hesitate to get this lens.

And as others have stated, the build quality is excellent - well above what the price point would suggest.

[9] Just have to say this is an incredible lens. First one I received did not have the proper line on it, second one was absolutely perfect and the focus distance markings were exact. Years ago it would have been impossible to buy a lens like this for less than 30k, or 10k. Look up some videos on it to confirm how incredible it is. Large format look on an S35 sensor. Great feeling quality. I have used 50k Cooke lenses, this is a great quality lens from Mitakon.

[ 0.8 MOD] If you can manual focus with a narrow focal plane, then you're set! Great lens especially paired with the a7riii

[ 0.8 MOD] I read a lot of bad reviews. My experience is that this lens is great!! Yes, the T.1 is soft, but I always use a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1 Filter for my films. So, to me, I enjoy that characteristic of a softer look at T.1. I have also seen reviews saying that chromatic aberration is too much. To me, people in post-production that I work with, spend tons of money on plugins to emulate that characteristic alone. So, to have it in lens already is pretty dope. ALso, this lens comes with a awesome hard case!

The manual focus is no problem for me personally. I have honestly never truly used autofocus much at all in my career. The lens is on the heavier side. Personally, I am very active (I work out, play basketball, and golf) so holding this 4Ib lens vs a 2.5Ib lens from Sigma is virtually the same for me.

The focus without a focus puller is very smooth. If you use manual focus already and don't use / own a focus puller, then you won't need one with this lens in my opinion. My hands are small, and I can still focus relatively easily with my hands alone. Now, I did buy this lens new and not used. So that may be why there are bad reviews regarding the focus.

Overall to have a T.1 is unbeatable to me. Yes, the image is softer but that's why we have post-production (color grading in Davinci). This lens has a character that is hard to reproduce in post-production. I look at the cons as a win as a creator!

[20mm] I bought the first Mitakon RF 35mm and I loved the look with soft, warm, quasi-vintage vibe and delightful bokeh. When the V2 came out with the 20mm and 50mm, I've decided to get them all for a complete set. The breathing is not prominent and the look is truly remarkable. I'd love to see a wider and a longer lens added to the set.

[77 mm] It is a very rare instance where I feel I got a better bargain photographically or otherwise. This lens is MUCH better than I
anticipated it would be.

[Canon RF] This is just out, of course, I just received it yesterday, I have had a chance to shoot a few nature photos. This is a wonderfully fun lens to use. Very solidly built. (Comes with a very nice lens shade with velvet inside, to help with reflections, which of course helps prevent reflections at this aperture.)

This lens appears to do very well, especially in situations such as side lighting from a window. The thinness of depth of field at 50 mm for full frame at f0.95 is incredible. The light years of bokeh is very neutral and pleasing, in my opinion.

The aperture ring, although stepless, which is great for video, does have some resistance to it, which can help alleviate accidentally moving it off position while shooting.

This lens helps turn your full-frame Sony (etc.) into an old view camera, to some extent. I am having great fun with this so far, the build quality appears truly superb, and I could not ask for more for the money, to say the least.

I also love how close this lens focuses, 1.6 feet if I’m not mistaken – because of floating elements, Which only further emphasizes the insanely-wide aperture at that distance.
