    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I plug microphone into the canon c100?

A: This mic is designed to work with a camera that has a 3.5mm input, a mobile device or to connet USB directly to a computer. Rode does say that you can use a Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLRP to connect into the mic preamp of a camera with 48 volt phantom power, but I would suggest to use a camera shotgun mic with a balanced XLR output. A good example would be the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLRP.

Q: 2. Does anyone else have issues with the auto on/off on a Lumix S1H?

A: The VideoMic NTG is compatible with the Lumix S1H and the auto on/off function for the mic should work properly. We are not aware of any issues. I would recommend disconnecting the mic and turning the power off for both the camera and mic, then starting over for the setup. Connect the mic to the camera with power off for both, then turn on power for the camera and the mic should power on automatically. When you are ready to turn off power for the camera and mic, use the power button on the camera only and don't touch the power button on the mic. The camera's power button should function as the master power control for the mic. Rode does note that if you manually switch the mic on using its power button and then plug it into the camera or turn the power on for the camera separately, you will need to switch the mic's power off manually. So to make sure the auto on/off feature operates correctly, start with the power off for both the mic and camera, then only use the camera's power button to control them. If you are still experiencing problems with the auto on/off feature, I suggest contacting tech support at Rode directly. They are very helpful in resolving most issues and will be able to confirm whether you may need to update firmware or if there is another issue preventing the mic from functioning properly. You can reach Rode by phone at 562-364-7400. Their US office is located in California.

Q: 3. I'm gonna use mic to record typing keyboard sound do you thing this or VideoMic Pro Plus works better?

A: The above would depend on the type of keyboard that is being used (the keys of some keyboards are louder than others), as well as the position of the microphone (the distance of the microphone to the keyboard/typist) and the input gain/volume setting of your microphone or camera. Both microphones should work fine for your stated usage needs as long as the microphone is close enough to the keyboard and the gain volume is set correctly. This should be easily managed if your camera or recorder has volume levels or allows you to monitor the sounds recorded by the microphone. Both options listed above a re good microphones and should work for your needs,

Q: 4. Can you use trough a "power less" mixer or adapter such as the Saramonic SR-AX100, that do not have power, since the mic might think that it's not connected to anything...? Does it have to be connected "directly" into a powered camera?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone would work well through the Saramonic SR-AX100 Passive 2-Channel Audio Adapter for DSLR Cameras. The VideoMic NTG powers itself via battery and has an auto-sensing, switchable TRRS/TRS output connection.

Q: 5. For two-person podcasts (host and guest), will this mic work well assuming both people are sitting 2-3’ from the mic?

A: That distance will work either from a table top stand or a suspended arm.

Q: 6. With this work with the 2018 ipad pro that has usb c (with usb c to usb c cable)

A: Yes, it will work with the 2018 iPad Pro. The USB connection on the mic is USB-C. The included USB cable is USB-C to USB-A so you can use a USB-C adapter on the included cable or a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Q: 7. What size is the screw mount on the bottom? Thank you!

A: Mounting 3/8"-16 Female (for boompole use)

Q: 8. I am buying a shotgun mic for filmmaking & vlogging right now, but I will probably also record some music cover video in the future. Would this mic be a good choice for both intentions?

A: This is a solid all around mic. It will work very well for your intentions.

Q: 9. Are you able to mount the mic sideways onto a cold shoe extension bar?

A: Yes. The orientation of the mic is not important as long as it is pointed directly at the subject.

Q: 10. Description says it comes with a TRRS cable tip. Is that factual or is it a TRS tip?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone comes with the Rode SC10 Right-Angle 3.5mm TRRS Cable (B&H # ROSC10) which has TRRS tips on both sides of the cable.

[6.1 x 3 x 1.5"] I got this mic because of its feature set and all the positive reviews. I have now used it on 2 feature films and 2 short films, plus several commercials and promos. It is easy to use, the sound quality is excellent, and the battery life is amazing. It can do a 12+ - hour production day with no issues whatsoever, over and over again.

Since it is so light and also works with my Rode Digital Filmmaker wireless kit, I have been using it as a wireless boom mic for interviews now that lav mics are beyond most subjects' comfort level. I also like that the fuzzy windscreen is so small and compact compared to the Video Mic Pro +. I do a lot of work that involves trekking with a backpack that has to hold all of my gear, so anything that reduces space is very much appreciated.

[6.1 x 3 x 1.5"] This mic has all the features you could want for a run and gun shooting setup.
My favorite feature is the duel levels recording, so if you peak on one channel you can just use the other channel.
Another awesome feature is the gain dial on the back of the mic. Great for dialing your audio if something needs adjusted on the fly.
Finally the auto on and off is quite amazing. I no longer have to worry about remembering to turn my mic on, as in the past with other mics I've recorded clips with no audio because of this.
    Great product, RODE!
