A: With RG6, about 300 feet. Much longer, you should be using fiber...

Q: 2. Hi. I have an old professional VHS camera that has BNC video output. So to capture the video to my Mac book, first I have to use this analog-sdi converter, after I have to connect it to the Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder, and after connect all this to laptop? And what’s the difference if I will use Elgato USB Analog Video Capture Device Instead of all this, connected to the camera via bnc-s-video cable ( it passes the color) and connected to laptop via usb? A: If you use the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Analog to SDI, it will convert the analog signal to digital and then the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder could be used. However, the Elgato USB analog video capture device could be used as a more direct solution to convert an analog source. The only major advantage in using the Blackmagic solution would be to use Blackmagic's Media Express software (free download) to encode it into a variety of formats, such as Apple Prores.

Q: 5. Does this come with a power supply?

A: Yes. Power supply was in the box. New w/celophane...converter, power supply. No other cabling.

Q: 6. are all the pins supposed to be up ?

A: I am guessing you mean the DIP Switches. These switches would be set according to how you want to run this converter. Some of the settings include Analog or AES audio and channel selection. The switch settings are listed on the back of the unit.

Q: 7. I just ordered the Mini Converter Analog to SDI. We're trying to move analog to digital. I'm not interested in rescaling the materials but just getting it digital. I see how to get the signal in for composite and component but what about S-VHS? It seems that I need to use 2 BNC connectors on the box. How do I do that when S-VHS had the old standard S-VHS cable.

A: I think you need a different box to accomplish what you want to do.

Q: 8. Is there a way to go from VGA to BNC male for this? Would RGBHV work if I just didn't use the H & V cables?

A: Most likely not. RGB does not carry sync, so you would need H and V inputs. You will need a VGA to SDI scaler. Hope this aswers the question

Q: 9. why can i only get a monochrome output?.. I've tried multiple sources of NTSC composite video and swapped both monitor and cables with no luck getting a color image out of the SDI. I've even tried different dip switch settings w no luck. thank you

A: Thanks.. figured it out. I didn't realize that on the dip switches down is on and up is off.

[Analog] I wanted to listen to the sound from a new Sony smart TV through a 1970s stereo receiver/speakers setup in lieu of using either the TVs internal speakers or an old LG soundbar which I have never liked. With the Geffen GTV-DIGAUD-2-AUD converter, I connected an optical cable from the TV to the Geffen converter and then RCA cables from the converter into the AUX port of the receiver. Now the sound is much better PLUS there is no lag (latency) between the voices on the screen and the sound from the speakers. The B&H rep recommended this converter over a less expensive converter in order to avoid a latency issue. I am happy with this purchase, but have not figured out a way to use the TV remote for sound level adjustments and muting. 5

[Analog] Before getting this unit, I ran my four amplified audio speakers from the headphone jack on my iMac. Using audio for editing in Final Cut Pro, but also watching movies at night, I had a nest of splitters separating the stereo lines to the various speakers and also to my headphones. A friend suggested the quality would be better with a digital audio converter, so I purchased this one. I am thrilled with it. I ran all the wires under my editing table and the master volume knob is right there at the front of my desk where I can adjust it when the volume gets too loud (Bruce Willis movies, etc.) And the headphone jack is right where I need it, cutting out the amplified speakers just by plugging it in. Its the most useful addition to my computer in a long time. 5

[Analog] Thankfully nothing much to say, you plug in what you need and it just works. I needed a DAC to take output from an AV system and monitor the audio through active speakers, and didn't need a high-end converter. For casual use cases this works just fine, and the price is right. 5

[0.585 lb] This converter is used to interconnect a legacy stereo system with a modern digital one. The D to A converter is also compatible with the 24-bit, 48 kHz digital files I create myself in digitizing vinyl LPs. I use this D to A converter to feed the coaxial SPDIF output from a hi-res audio player into the legacy analog monitoring system. I also have the reverse Analog to Digital Gefen converter going the opposite direction. Simple, inexpensive, and no audible latency when used with video. Using the A to D converter with the optical digital output also eliminates 60Hz hum that is common with a pile of components all interconnected. The D to A converter is also compatible with the 24-bit, 48 kHz digital files I create myself in digitizing vinyl LPs. I use the D to A converter to feed the coaxial SPDIF output from a hi-res audio player into the legacy analog monitoring system. In the midst of the high end hype that is common with digital audio devices, it is refreshing to find devices like these Gefen converters that work perfectly for such a low cost. 5

[0.585 lb] Captured VHS TAPE with plenty of problems on the tape, composite video + audio IN to SDI OUT, in to Blackmagic capture card. over two hours of capture didn't drop a frame, kept perfect sync of Video and Audio. when there where video problems on the tape, the TBC freeze the video for that amount of time. Video thru the TBC, is exactly as the source, (unless you want to change it in the proc AMP). Very Nice control software installed on windows 10 the only problem is B&H Website and the phone assistant said that the power adaptor was not included. but it is.. I bought a separate power adaptor for no reason.. (now I have one spare..) 5
