Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with my Zoom H5 and Saramonic WM2100 Lav mics?

A: Yes, the Rode VXLR Pro Transformer-Balanced 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom-Power Converter can be used to make a hardwired connection between the lavalier microphones included in the Saramonic SR-WM2100 2-Person Camera-Mount Digital Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System and the Zoom H5 Portable Handy Recorder. The VXLR Pro will properly convert phantom power from the H5's XLR inputs down to the plug-in power voltage required by the lavaliers.

Q: 2. I want to connect a laptop to an Anchor AN-130. A direct patch gives me hiss. Connecting two laptops to a switcher and then onto the amp can degrade the signal to uselessness. Will this help with this problem?

A: Yes, the 318 will provide a balanced mic level output so if you use the mic level input on the Anchor it should help eliminate any noise caused by impedance mismatch. You may need to use the ground lift switch on the 318 if there's a hum. It may also be helpful to turn down the treble control on the Anchor speaker slightly.

Q: 3. What happens to the -20 safety channel when the Rode VideoMic NTG is used with this "balanced" adapter?

A: When used with a standard unbalanced 3.5mm microphone cable, the Rode VXLR Pro's extra pin (used for inverted polarity audio signal in balanced devices) would be inert, but unbalanced audio is still passed through the balanced connection.

Q: 4. Will this work to connect a Deity V.Lav mic to the XLR input on a Zoom H6?

A: Yes it wll.

Q: 5. If phantom power is sent on the line this is plugged into will it prevent damage to the source like a phone?

A: The Switchcraft 318 AudioStix does not pass phantom power. It's for connecting a 3.5mm signal to a PA mixer mic in.

Q: 6. Can the RODE VXLR Pro also be used to connect an unbalanced 3.5mm mic to the Phantom-Powered XLR connector?

A: No. It would need to be a 3.5mm TRS connection microphone that requires mic plugin power to be able to work with phantom power and the Rode VXLR Pro.

Q: 7. Am I correct, when assuming that one could use a y-splitter and 2 of these to “symmetrize” the Sound Devices Mixpre 3/6 unbalanced trs outputs?

A: No, the VXLR Pro is not intended for use with a line level audio signal. It is intended for use with a microphone that has a 3.5mm TRS connector that requires plug-in power and enables connection to an XLR mic input that supplies phantom power and it will convert phantom power to plug-in power. It would certainly help to have more information about what type of device or input you will be connecting the line output from the MixPre-3 or 6 to. Since you are sending line level audio from a single 3.5mm TRS output and want to split it to two balanced XLR male connections, it sounds like what you need is a direct box like the Kopul SDI-PPC Stereo Multimedia Passive Direct Box (B&H # KOSDIPPC). This direct box has a stereo 3.5mm input and will allow you to split the output from the MixPre-3 or 6 to left and right balanced XLR outputs. Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website if you would like further assistance.

Q: 8. Will it work with my Rode Rodelink filmmaker kit and my Zoom H6?

A: Yes it. will.

Q: 9. I want to run my iPhone to our church sound system. Can I use a lightning to 1/8" adaptor and then the Switchcraft 318 to go to xlr and get a good signal?

A: Yes, the Switchcraft AudioStix Stereo 3.5mm Female to Balanced Mono XLR Male Adapter is a good solution for converting a stereo 3.5mm signal connection from an iPhone to mono XLR output for connection to a sound system.

Q: 10. I need to connect a Rode Go ll to a mixer board. What do I need cables or adapters

A: You can use a standard cable with 3.5mm TRS male and XLR male connectors such as the Kopul Stereo Right-Angle 1/8" Male Mini-Jack to XLR Male Cable - 1.5' (B&H # KORSMXM015) to connect the Rode Wireless GO II Receiver to the input on a mixer. Another option is to use an XLR adapter with the 3.5mm TRS cable that is included with the Wireless GO II System. For the XLR adapter, you can use the Rode VXLR 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter (B&H # ROVXLR).

[Yes] This adapter cable did exactly as expected; converting the 5pin DMX output from my Soundcraft Performer Audio console to 3pin cables for my Chauvet stage lighting. It fit nicely and was long enough to not be a bump hazard at the back of the console.

[Yes] I chose Accu-cable due to the construction. The cable itself is pretty beefy. The connectors looked like Neutrik (My favorites). However, upon receiving the product, the connectors are not Neutrik, BUT appear to be similarly well constructed.

[Black] Simple cost effective DMX 3 to 5 solution. ADJ is often associated with low quality but this product has been great for me.

[Gold] This item did exactly what it advertised, and more. Initially, I used this adaptor to connect to some lights that didn't have a 5-pin connector (as advertised), and it worked great, no bugs at all. Then, I had a totally different application: adding audio return into my 5-pin comms system from an XLR output on my audio console. It took 30 seconds for me to patch this connection, and it instantly worked perfectly. Nifty connector, definitely worth keeping in your bag of tricks for emergencies.
