Vixen manufactures fine telescopes in several aperture sizes and configurations, to assure that you'll find one perfect for you.  Their VC200L 200mm f/9 Catadioptric Telescope is neither a Schmidt-Cassegrain or a Maksutov-Cassegrain, but rather a unique creation all its own: a catadioptric Vixen Sixth-Order Aspheric Cassegrain (VISAC) optical system, one of the most sophisticated optical designs available on the market today.  This design is free of coma and field curvature, as well as spherical and chromatic aberrations.  Especially noteworthy is its sharpness and flatness at the edges, which far exceeds that of Schmidt-Cassegrain systems of the same aperture.  It provides a pinpoint star image less than 15 microns, even at the edges of its 42mm image circle.  If you're looking for a photographic catadioptric, this is an excellent choice.

The Vixen VISAC optical system is composed of a concave primary mirror, a convex secondary mirror, and a three-element field corrector at the base of the focuser.  The primary mirror is a unique innovation:  A precise sixth-order shape produced by Vixen's High-Precision Poly-Order Aspherical Mirror Molding Technique.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How are the telescope focal length (1950 mm) and focal ratio (9.75) defined? Focal length is the distance from the focus to what? Focal ratio is the ratio of what to what?

A: Focal length is the distance (given in millimeters) between the telescope's primary lens or mirror and the point where the light rays come together in focus. The focal ratio is the focal length divided by the lens diameter. For the Vixen Optics VMC200L, that would be 1950 divided by 200 = 9.75.

Q: 2. How can the Advance Polaris be mounted on a regular tripod?

A: The Vixen Optics Advanced Polaris-M Motorized EQ Mount with Star Book One BH #VIAPSMM • MFR #39973 cannot be mounted to a camera or a video tripod. Also there is no adapter that would allow it.

Q: 3. Will Vixen Optics Porta II Tall+ Alt-Azimuth Mount work with this scope?

A: Yes it is compatible.

Q: 4. What will be the maximum high with legs extended?

A: Measured straight down from the top of the tripod base to the ground with the legs fully extended, the maximum height is 3' 10.5"

Q: 5. Is this a 2 elements or 3 elements refractor?

A: This model has 2 elements.

Q: 6. Can I use a 2" dielectric star diagonal mirror with the Vixen SD 81S or Vixen SD 103S? Thanks

A: The Vixen Optics SD103S 103mm f/8 ED APO Refractor Telescope (OTA Only) BH #VISD103S • MFR #ES26147 was only designed foe 1.25"

Q: 7. Is there a go to that can be used with this mount?

A: Celestron 93522 is the dual axis motor for this to allow tracking. You would not be able to add GoTo to this mount. I would suggest the Celestron AVX mount for a GoTo mount.

Q: 8. HiIn what country was this scope made?

A: This item is manufactured in China

Q: 9. Is this unitmade in japan?

A: The Vixen Optics R130SF 130mm f/5 Reflector Telescope is made in China.

Q: 10. Is there any way to adjust the declination indicator wheel?

A: yes, they're is an allen head grub screw around the 70 degree mark on ring. On the side of the declination clutch. Takes a 1.5 mm allen head wrench.

[1800mm] The Tripod is a perfect match with my Porta II mount and very stable with my ES AR102. These are my first Vixen products and very happy with their portability. Only draw back was the extremely long wait on the tripod!

[23.55 lb] Excellent package--got as first scope for beginning astronomer. Wanted a large aperture scope at a reasonable price. Optics superb for the price of this combination mount/optical tube assembly. Altazmith mount is superb, with fine adjustments for tracking. The total combination is easily portable.

[23.55 lb] Excellent Newtonian for imaging and viewing. No false color and I did not do any collimation. It worked out if the box.
I have taken cool pictures of Orion Nebula, Rosette Nebula, Horsehead nebula, Pleiades when mounted on a GEM.
I can upload these images if BH can facilitate.
The porta mount is another excellent piece and highly recommend for alt azimuth viewing. Light sturdy and design is excellent.

[1800mm] This plate REALLY IDEAL match with my Vixen Porta II mount and make possible mounting my OTA Sky Watcher 4.5' Neutonian. Together with Vixen Red Point Finder and Vixen Eyepieces it makes perfect system for visual observation - very simple, convenient, stable. In fact, I purchased completely new telescope for just$!

[23.55 lb] The Vixen VMC200L offers excellent value in a telescope. The 200mm primary mirror provides nearly 8 of aperture, which provides sufficient light grasp to observe many astronomical objects. Focusing is done via a smooth operating rack and pinion focuser with a 2 drawtube so the primary mirror does not move while focusing and there is absolutely zero image shifting while focusing as a result. Also unlike a more common SCT, the tube is not enclosed by a corrector plate, which allows the scope to cool down (reach ambient temperature) significantly faster than an enclosed SCT or MCT. Also, no corrector plate reduces the dewing issue unless the humidity is extremely high and the wind is calm. The included attached metal handle makes mounting the optical tube to a GEM much more convenient and feels a lot safer holding the scope while securing the dovetail. Although the spider vanes holding the secondary are fairly thick, the structure holds collimation well and the scope was delivered without need for of collimation. Also this made in Japan optical tube is backed by a Vixen 5 year warranty.

[f/9.0] I am just getting started in astronomy, and this is my first telescope. It was a priority that the kit be lightweight and portable, as well as high quality. This kit fills the bill. Much easier to take outside for a few minutes than a dob. Both the OTA and the Porta II mount are excellent quality. The new Porta II mount is already legend among amateur astronomers, as it is VERY stable/well made. The EPs included by Vixen are *not* NPL plossls as the website suggests- instead they are a no name plossl set and are not as high a quality as the NPLs. (I have since acquired an NPL- which is great.) The included EPs are adequate but not great. The kit was very well packed by Vixen and was easy to set up. While instructions were included, I didn't need them, and I'm a beginner. The scope is intuitive to use. I haven't used it as much as I would like yet, due to cloudy skies, but with what little I've seen it seems the scope arrived well collimated. I would buy this kit again.
