A: Using stabilizers requires a bit of practice and patience. Both will pay great dividends.When I was a Steadicam assistant on multi-million dollar movies, it would take the Steadicam operator an hour to set up the rig. It would take another 30 minutes if there was a major change. And these guys were the best in the business that did it every work day!First you need to set your camera in the exact configuration you plan to use it in. No changing allowed once you start balancing. (This includes something seemingly minor as having the LCD screen out) Place the handle on a post if possible for it will allow you to use two hands. Now place the camera on the stabilizer and center it on the top plate. This may take a few times back and forth and side to side. As you get closer to balance, use smaller and smaller increments. Then you need to set the horizontal balance. You do this by holding the main post horizontal and letting it go. Usually a 2 count drop to vertical is what is desired. To adjust, you raise or lower the handle.
