Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When connected to a laptop Windows PC will it disable /take over the internal PC microphone input? In other words can it be used *only* for output DA conversion?

A: When connected to your computer for recording, you will need to go to computer's System Preferences for audio and select the SSL 2 as your input device during your setup and that will disable the computer's internal microphone. You should also select the SSL 2 as your audio output device in order to disable the built-in speakers and prevent issues with feedback from your mic picking up the sound of the internal speakers. You will be able to monitor the audio through headphones or speakers that are connected to the SSL 2. Here is a link to the user manual which will provide more details on setup and operation of the SSL 2: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/594696.pdf

Q: 2. The company did some simple tests with Linux, but has anyone done extensive recordings with this and Linux? Did it work?

A: Per SSL: OS Compatibility macOS 10.11 / 10.12 / 10.13 / 10.14 / 10.15 Windows 8.1 / 10 Included Software Ableton Live Lite Pro Tools First Compatible Software (Not Included) Any Core Audio (Mac) Compliant Software Supported Drivers/API & Plug-Ins macOS Class-Compliant (No Driver Needed) ASIO Mobile Device Compatibility None

Q: 3. If a phantom button is pushed on, will it be memorized after the unit is turned off or disconnected?

A: Once the +48v botton is pressed, it will stay on to provide phantom power to the channel, even when the unit is turned off and back on again.

Q: 4. Just opened my new XM-55, but can't get it to work- is there a power indicator light anywhere on the mic? Connecting to multiple cameras gets no audio, no indication of power at all- thoughts?

A: It has a red LED just in front of the power switch. It's dim, but it works on mine. By the way... hate to state the obvious but it doesn't get power from the camera. You have to feed it batteries.

Q: 5. Will this work with a Fuijifilm S8600?

A: The Fujifilm FinePix S8600 Digital Camera is not capable of connecting to an external mic due to the cameras lack of an external mic input. In order to capture higher quality sound than the camera is capable of on its own, you will need to use an external audio recorder, and marry sound to video via editing software.

Q: 6. When is it expected to be in stock or ready to ship?

A: At this time, we do not have a specific eta for this unit.

Q: 7. Can this mic accept phantom power via XLR?

A: Yes, it accepts a AA battery for boards that do Not have phantom power and a switch to turn the mic on, it even comes with a battery and a hole cut in the foam to store the battery. I use it in the field only with my Zoom H6 that has Phantom power and I choose to have it on while recording most of the time. I usually put the battery in and turn it on so I don't drain power from my portable unit even though the drain is minimal on my H6.

Q: 8. Hi I just got this and it is working ok but I'm getting a small sequel in my headphones when connecting to a rodecaster. Not sure if it is the rodecaster setup? I tried different headphones.

A: Make sure that phantom power on the RodeCaster Pro is turned off since the Vidpro XM-55 is powered by a battery. Also make sure that the mic is not picking up audio from a speaker. If neither of these issues are the source of the noise, please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website and we can help you to troubleshoot.

Q: 9. Will this work with the Canon PowerShot SX60?

A: The VidPro XM-55 ships with multiple output cables including a 1/8 cable that will connect to the mic input on the Canon PowerShot SX60.

Q: 10. what does the 3rd position of the on/off switch do?

A: The XM 55 switch, in addition to power offers a low cut filter setting. This setting will reduce the low frequency information received by the mic and is effective in reducing some low frequency room noise such as AC rumble, light wind and popping P sounds from speech.

[Mono] B&H always comes thru, this mic stand is great for kick! Fit exactly where I needed it to!!

[Mono] Sturdy as advertised, low profile, quick and easy to mount, move and take off. Mine came with a heavy plastic mic clip unlike the thinner kind (which can break easy) as pictured. The only problem with these clips is once you have everything in place and wired it is difficult to adjust the height of the mic. It's easiest to un-patch the XLR then readjust the height. Otherwise, a really great mount for your D series mics.

[48 V] Well, it doesn't look that great in the pictures, does it ? Indeed, I doubt it would have occurred to me to BUY one, until TWO of them arrived over a year ago as part of my superb Audix SCX25A matched pair piano miking kit. From that moment on, I found myself constantly reaching for them (rather than my vast inventory of other clamps) whenever the need arose to mount all sorts of things in all sorts of less conventional places. That they're fabulous for mics is a given, but these clamps are ALSO unmatched, in my long experience, for the secure clamping of more exotic things, such as mini cams and wireless mic antennae. Perhaps the best testimony I can give in terms of just HOW useful they've been (and what good value for money they represent) is me telling you that I now own a total of six.

[Cardioid] I used to keep my microphone on the table, but all the rats and other varmint were really stanking the thing up. Now, thanks to its surprisingly heavy base and petite boom arm, I can keep the mic ABOVE the desk, close to my mouth at ALL times! I'm going to save a load on windscreens!!!

[Mono] We provide live sound for a variety of musical clients. Especially when working in the festival format, quick and seamless change-over is imperative. These little clamps mean exactly that-quick clean change-over (band to band). Sometimes inexpensive and small products can make a big difference in stress levels. These clamps also allow a surprising range of mic placement and stay out of the way of stick strikes. We are going to buy more and they will get a lot of use!

[48 V] I love this kit. I can't believe how much quality for the price.

No doubt an audio guru could find something they don't like about how these sound, there is just no way a $300 mic kit can match the quality of a $3,000 mic kit. But all I hear is an incredibly clean signal, excellent punch on the low end, crisp high end, and details of the sound that will make you a better drum tuner (because these pick up all the nuances in your sound) .

The only downside, but not enough to even warrant taking off a star, are that the mic clips are probably not gonna be good for the long haul. They are a little flimsy in how they connect, and the unused portion of the mounting area (above where I set the mic) is very tall with a lot of wasted space. I would love this even more if the clips were redesigned to not be so tall over the drum. But again, this is just a niggling thing and not really an issue.

I would buy this kit again, no doubt about it.

[Black] Ordered two different mic shields at the same time - this one (ordered from B&H) worked right out of the box with no modifications. It does not 'ring' like the other non-PrimAcoustic brand does.
