Updating a well-regarded staple among musicians, the black TM-70T Handheld Tuner from Korg delivers an all-in-one tuning solution for bands, orchestras, and solo musicians alike. Compact and sporting a large LCD screen with excellent visibility, the TM-70T will have you tuned and ready to go in rapid fashion.

Along with standard chromatic tuning, the TM-70T can engage Transpose Mode to tune in orchestral reference pitches (B flat, E flat, and F), making it an ideal choice for orchestra students and school music programs. Sound Out mode emits pitches via a loud, clear, and improved internal speaker, providing a useful ear training aid. Universal graphic labels let you easily determine tuner status with a glance, a helpful feature for beginner and advanced players. And when you need expanded versatility, the TM-70T comes equipped with the CM-400 contact microphone, allowing you to connect the tuner directly to your instrument to make tuning even more accurate.

LCD needle meter with wide measurement range from C1 to C8 and good response. The wide measurement range from C1 (32.70 Hz) to C8 (4186.01 Hz) enables easy and accurate tuning of low-pitched instruments, instruments with many overtones that are difficult to pick up, and acoustic instruments such as guitars and ukuleles. The LCD needle meter, which uses Korg's proprietary technology to accurately detect pitch without time lag, also allows you to check the shaking that tends to occur with long tones on wind instruments, helping you to develop a stable, unshakeable pronunciation.

The transpose function is useful for transposed instruments where the actual note played differs from the note name written in the score. In addition to the usual in C, it is now possible to switch between in F, in B♭, and in E♭. This makes it possible for beginners to play correctly while looking at the score.

In an ensemble such as a brass band or orchestra, harmonies of third intervals are easily perceived as out of tune, and can be made to sound better by slightly adjusting the pitch to a pure major or minor third. The TM-70T's meter scale provides marks that indicate pure major and minor thirds, and simply by tuning so that the needle coincides with these marks* allows you to play in beautiful harmony with an ensemble. This is convenient not only for orchestral instruments but also for vocal music or acappella practice.

* When tuning to a pure major or minor third, the specific note to be adjusted depends on the music that you're playing.

In addition to a meter for visual tuning, the TM-70T provides a sound out mode that lets you tune using your ear while listening to a reference tone from the internal speaker or a set of connected headphones. The reference tone can be selected from the three-octave range of C3 (130.81 Hz) to C6 (1046.50 Hz), supporting not only wind instruments but also a variety of other instruments.

Sound Back mode generates the reference tone that’s closest to the pitch that you’re playing, while simultaneously indicating your input pitch on the meter. Since this allows you to check the pitch with both eye and ear, it lets you tune more precisely, and it’s also ideal for ear training. Refining your ear is a particularly helpful practice method for the beginner.

You can set the tempo using three different methods:

  • Pendulum Step: this lets you increase or decrease tempo values in the same way as on a standard pendulum-style metronome
  • Full Step: here you can specify the tempo in single-step increments in the range of 30 to 252
  • Tap Tempo: with this setting you can specify the desired tempo by pressing the switch in time with the song you're playing

There are 15 different built-in rhythms, including:

  • Time signatures 0 through 9
  • Duplets, triplets, and triplets with middle note omitted
  • Quadruplets and quadruplets with the middle note omitted
  • 30 to 252 bpm

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the zoom f2?

A: Yes, the TASCAM TM-10LW Lavalier Microphone is compatible with the Zoom F2.

Q: 2. What ever happened to the TM-10LW?

A: It appears the white version of the Tascam TM-10LB Lavalier Microphone for DR-10L Digital Recorder (TM-10LW) may no longer be offered by Tascam.

Q: 3. Can I buy the windscreen and clip separately? I lost the two items but the rest of the microphone works well.

A: Yes, the metal windscreen is the Auray WLM-OLM2-S https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/911884-REG/auray_metal_windscreens_for_olm2_me2_lavs.html And there are several clips that can be used: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909492-REG/windtech_tc_6_set_of_three.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909493-REG/windtech_tc_7_lapel_mic_tie_clips.html

Q: 4. Will it work with the Rode Newsshooter wireless kit?

A: The Tascam TM-10LW - Lavalier Microphone will work as a mic for the Rode RODELink Newsshooter Kit Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Plug-On Microphone System with No Mic (2.4 GHz), B&H # RONSH.

Q: 5. Will this Mic accommodate a Tascam porta 03?

A: The Tascam TM-10LB is not compatible with the Tascam Porta 03 Ministudio. This mic has a locking 3.5mm connection, and requires power. The mic is made specifically for the Tascam Dr-10L. I would recommend a battery-operated lavalier mic, such as the Sony ECM-44B Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone, B&H # SOECM44B, with the adapter cable, Hosa Technology Mono 1/4" Male to 3-Pin XLR Female Audio Cable - 2' B&H # HOPMXF2.

Q: 6. Can I add this as a 2nd mic on my Tascam DR-10L using a splitter cable? So I can record both sides of an interview?

A: Not a good idea. Use a small mixer instead: Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer B&H # AZCAM3

Q: 7. How can this mic be connected to an iPhone with Lightning connector?

A: Since the Tascam TM-10L has a 3.5mm TRS locking connector, it will not connect securely to a non-locking 3.5mm TRS female connector on a standard Lightning adapter. As another option, you could use an XLR adapter like the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (B&H # ROVXLRP) which has a threaded 3.5mm TRS female connector and a built-in phantom power converter. The mic and XLR adapter can be connected to a mobile interface with an XLR mic input that is capable of supplying phantom power. An interface like the IK Multimedia iRig Pre HD Audio Interface with Mic Pre (B&H # IKIRIGPREHD) or the Saramonic SmartRig Di, Single-Channel Mic and Guitar Interface with Lightning Connector for iOS Devices (B&H # SASMARTRIGDI) would do the job. It would be much easier to just use a different microphone that is designed for use with an iPhone such as the Saramonic LavMicro DI Broadcast Lavalier Microphone with Lightning Connector (B&H # SALAVMICRODI), the Saramonic LavMicro U1A Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Lightning Connector for iOS Devices - 6.5' Cable (B&H # SALAVMICRU1A), the Comica Audio SIG.LAV V05 MI Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Gain and Monitoring for iOS Devices - Lightning (B&H # COSIGLAVV05M), or the Vidpro XM-LT Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Lightning Connector (B&H # VIXMLT). These are only a few of the Lightning-equipped microphones that are available.

Q: 8. Would this work with a Zoom H-1 recorder?

A: Thank you for your question. This unit has a locking 3.5mm connection that will not lock into the H1i i recommend using a regular (non-locking) 3.5mm microphone such as the Polsen OLM-10. (B&H # POOLM10)

Q: 9. What foam screens and furry dead cat wind screens fit this TM-10L mic? I have Rycote stickies and they seem slightly small.

A: BH #AUWLF0143 and BH #AUWLW would be appropriate for use with the TASCAM TM-10LB Lavalier Microphone.

Q: 10. dB audio sensitivity rating?

A: The TASCAM TM-95GN has a sensitivity of -39 dB at 1 kHz.

[3 VDC] I wanted a not-too-fancy clip-on tuner that included A = 432 in its range. It was easy to set the non-standard reference. I like the display-- it flashes bright green when the string is tuned properly. It also can sound the A note if desired.

So far I haven't used the metronome feature, and it's too soon to judge how sturdy it is. But it's made a great first impression!
