A high-resolution 20.4MP Live MOS sensor and updated TruePic IX image processor work together to provide fast shooting performance, a sensitivity range up to ISO 25600, and versatile 4K video recording capabilities. Additionally, the sensor and processor provide an impressive continuous shooting rate of up 30 fps when shooting in the camera's new Pro Capture mode, enabling you to capture fast-moving subject when time is of the essence.

An advanced autofocus system combines both 121 phase-detection AF points and 121 contrast-detection AF points for focusing performance that is both quick and accurate. All 121 phase-detection points are cross-type for improved precision in mixed lighting conditions, providing enhanced subject tracking capabilities. Different focusing modes are available to suit working in various shooting conditions as well, including Group Target 25-point mode for moving subjects such as birds and wildlife. Face Detection and Eye Detection AF have also been upgraded, and the camera features a recently designed Starry Sky AF mode as well as individual AF area settings for vertical and horizontal positions.

In-body, sensor-shift image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 6.5 stops with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when working with telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this unique image stabilization system works across five axes to compensate for vertical angle rotation, horizontal angle rotation, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and rolling camera shake movement. This range of detected movements benefits traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively. Additionally, when paired with select lenses featuring optical image stabilization, shake compensation up to 7.5 stops is possible.

The sensor and processor also support recording both DCI (4096 x 2160) and UHD (3840 x 2160) 4K movies. When working in DCI, a true 24p frame rate is used, while UHD 4K is available in frame rates up to 30p. Audio recording is possible using the built-in stereo microphone, and an external mic jack is available for improved audio recording quality. Additionally, a Time-lapse Movie mode is also available for recording up to 4K UHD resolution.

  • Simulating the effects of a neutral density filter, Live ND 16 mode results in blurred subject movement by combining exposures into a single image to replicate a photo taken at slower shutter speeds. This is particularly suitable for photographing moving water and clouds.
  • Focus stacking mode records multiple sequential frames then composites the exposures into a single image that exhibits an extended depth of field.
  • High-Res Shot mode offers the equivalent output of a 50MP image.
  • Live Composite mode gradually builds up an exposure over time without overexposing key elements within the frame and is ideal for long exposures, nighttime shooting, and light painting applications.
  • New Vertical Video mode provides a 9:16 aspect ratio for easily integrating videos on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other similar platforms.

    • High-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder for eye-level monitoring and clear, distortion-free viewing.
    • Rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD monitor features a vari-angle design to support working from a variety of angles, and it is also a touchscreen for intuitive menu navigation and image playback.
    • Included BLS-50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is used to provide approximately 310 shots per charge.
    • In-camera battery charging is supported via the micro-USB port.
    • Single SD memory card slot is UHS-II compatible for fast read/write speeds.
    • Wide accessory compatibility provided with the incorporation of a microphone port, a top hot shoe, micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports, and a 2.5mm port for optional remotes.
    • Rugged splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof construction incorporates extensive sealing throughout the body design to accommodate working in harsh weather conditions and trying environments.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permits wireless image sharing and remote camera control from a linked smartphone or tablet.

[Stills & Video] I take and use my OM-5 everywhere I go. Street and city-scape photography all around the Baltimore area. I've taken photographs in pouring rain, heavy snowfall, chilly Fall days. It is a trusted travel companion. Paired with M.zuiko prime or telephoto zoom lenses, it's simply terrific. I've photographed everything from ice crystal macros to the moon, cityscapes and birds. Compact and capable. An absolutely wonderful camera.

[Yes] So far all expectations from learning on E-M1 Mark III met. Fun to use. Sturdy.

[2x] My full frame cameras became to heavy and bulky for traveling. The OM 5, even with several lenses, is a lighter more manageable system. The image stabilization lets me leave the tripod home while allowing me to get sharp photos. Highly recommend.

[TTL] I have or have had most micro 4/3 cameras and I have to say this is the best of all, even better than the OM-1 and G9, since it is much smaller and the image quality is the same. GH6 is huge and it defeats the purpose of micro 4/3 system. And it is the best weather sealed of all of them, while being the lightest. It is also a pleasure to use.

[-2 to 20 EV] I have a Nikon D810 and some Zeiss Milvus lenses; they are exceptional products but are big, bulky and heavy. By no means am I the first person to note that full frame cameras and their equipment have the disadvantage of size and weight.

After reading a number of reviews on the B&H website, and reading other reviews from various sources, I decided to give the micro 4/3 system a try. Although some reviewers have commented on the menu system of the Olympus being quirky I did not find it difficult to get used to. Although the camera is small, it is not at all difficult to hold; the thumb rest on the rear of the camera leads to a comfortable grip. I have fairly large hands and have no complaints about the grip.

The IBIS five axis stabilization system is amazing; as many others have claimed, one can hand hold the camera in quite low light situations. Another two features that add to the value of the camera are the in camera focus stacking system and the high resolution mode.

A husband and wife team that produce numerous U tube videos some years ago predicted the micro 4/3 system would disappear. I have noticed many other commenters also like the OM-5. I think the OM-5, the just released OM-1 mark II and the expected release of the OM-10 will demonstrate the folly of making predictions about the demise of the micro 4/3 system.

[100%] I'm a longtime photography enthusiast. I was wanting a technically capable camera that was weather resistant and easy to take along. Here it is.
Amazing feature set and with proper technique you get outstanding images.
I only post on social platforms but you can easily make high quality images suitable for framing.

[Stereo ] Having had the Lumix G9, G95, Olympus E-M10II, and older film cameras and countless lenses, I've settled on capability and usability. That means the OM5. Weather-sealing, dual AF, slim but not small form, high-res mode (dont need FF or the bulky expense), ND mode, Night Mode, etc. and lots of lens options works. Shooting lots of coastal image and deep forest, the weather-sealing negates the salt spray and humidity (besides rain). Images are great, AF works well, and I can take the camera anywhere. This is a keeper. Trade-in days are over. Wow, finally a keeper.

[1,040,000 Dot] Up to now I am very satisfied with the camera. I have used it for pictures and taken some videos during the day and also during a performance at night. All the images and videos were of excellent quality. Considering that my previous camera is an Olympus EPL-1, this is a mayor upgrade for me!

[2.295 lb] I have been using a Canon full frame camera for years now but I have often questioned it because of how much it weighs and how large it is for doing landscapes while hiking. I've always been told that full frame is the only way to get proper photos and the creamy bokeh and all that. I have to say that after using the OM-5 I can see that what I was told is a total myth. I can get as good or even better results with this smaller mft sensor than with a full frame sensor. When I say better I am talking about its amazing features like 50mp hand held photos which are amazing, the live ND, built in focus bracketing and all in a much much smaller package, even the lenses are a fraction of the size and at an even more affordable price. It feels liberating to switch to micro four thirds and I recommend it for everyone who photographs in the mountains.
