Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens provide focal plane illumination that is sufficiently near telecentric to allow the f/2.8 pixel condensers in the Canon focal plane to work, out to the corners of the image?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF (B&H# MI50095CEF), while non tele-centric, will allow for cameras possessing a Canon EF mount to attain critical focus throughout the focal plane. Naturally, there is some curvature to that. As is always the case with fast prime lenses, the center is sharpest, but by about f/2 the image circle in general is sharp enough for typical photographic portraiture usage in even the non central region of the frame. Of course, whether or not that is enough for your usage will depend on your needs and preferences. Stop down to f/8 to achieve the wider depth of field that you need if you want the corners to be their sharpest despite natural field curvature.

Q: 7. Are the color and contrast fairly consistent between lenses in this set? It would be nice to see some data on this.

A: Yes, the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster kit is color is consistent over the different focal lengths.

Q: 8. Will this work on a Canon Eos 3 ?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF can be used with the Canon EOS 3 35mm Camera Body. They share the same lens mount for manual controls.

Q: 9. I can't find any 88mm clip on MB adapters from ARRI. Is there any other alternative to use these with the LMB?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster S35 20, 35 & 50mm T1 Cine 3-Lens Bundle (Canon RF) have 77mm filter threads, the front diameter is 88mm, but this doesn't mean you need an 88mm clip necessarily, just 77mm.

Q: 10. How sharp is this lens full opened?

A: When you have it wide open (T1-1.4) it will feel more like a vintage lens. It will be ok in terms of sharpness and have low contrast. Around T2 you will notice that it will get more contrast and get sharper. The lens performs its best in regards to sharpness and contrast between T4 and T5.6.

[2.57 lb] This lens is a manual lens, so focusing can be a little tricky, however pared with Sony's zebra focus & focus peaking, it isn't that bad. The results are definitely worth it! This is my favorite lens I own, it has so much character. The bokeh is sooo buttery smooth

[Sony E] This lens build like a tank and is quite heavy. That might be appealing to certain videographer. The focus ring is so smooth. It has too much resistance to turn when I first use it. After time it get loose and become perfect to turn by hand. The image at f1.2 is quite good. It does has low contrast and prone to flare at f1.2 but the center resolution is very good. Stop a bit to f1.4-1.6 increase contrast and reduce flare. I do not see other options for ef mount that has manual aperture ring and has great image quality even at f1.2. Do not overlook this lens if you are looking for a fast 85mm full frame lens that can be adapt to any system.

[77 mm] I bought this lens for my Blackmagic 4K, and I love the quality footage it produces. You can't beat the price for such a fast cine lens! It's well-built, too.

[9] I bought the first Mitakon RF 35mm and I loved the look with soft, warm, quasi-vintage vibe and delightful bokeh. When the V2 came out with the 20mm and 50mm, I've decided to get them all for a complete set. The breathing is not prominent and the look is truly remarkable. I'd love to see a wider and a longer lens added to the set.

[Super35/APS-C] Just have to say this is an incredible lens. First one I received did not have the proper line on it, second one was absolutely perfect and the focus distance markings were exact. Years ago it would have been impossible to buy a lens like this for less than 30k, or 10k. Look up some videos on it to confirm how incredible it is. Large format look on an S35 sensor. Great feeling quality. I have used 50k Cooke lenses, this is a great quality lens from Mitakon.

[50mm] It is a very rare instance where I feel I got a better bargain photographically or otherwise. This lens is MUCH better than I
anticipated it would be.

[Super35/APS-C] Pros:
Phenomenally capable
Solid build
Center sharpness is top-tier stopped down to 1.6
Quite compact for it's capability
Dirt cheap compared to other f/1's

Cons:
No autofocus
No exif data
Soft wide open but could be a pro due to dreamy effect- a matter of preference

[9] You like heavy metal... then get ready to rock this glass on your next shoot! It is a fun fast/fast lens. Manual wide open is a style which changes how you approach and move (flow) for your shot. I would call it a budget lens with big result. Like any budget lens, the extremes are where they can fall short.... but using it for cinema with the 'results may vary' mindset, it is fun and unlocks all sorts of creative vision.

The performance to price is a 10/10... and if your using it for cinema... a 12/10! It is an instant studio fav,
