  • Related Questions and Answers

    Q: 1. Will this be a good tripod for a Nikon D750 + Tamron 15-30mm G2? Approx 1960g. I do mainly (like 99.99%) vertical shots.

A: Yes and No. Tripod legs will hold fine, but not the head. Get a better tripod head like the K-20 II or K-30 II, and pair it with a L Bracket for vertical shots.

Q: 2. Will an RRS BH-40 Ball Head fit on this tripod?

A: The Sunwayfoto T3240CS comes with an embedded, non-end-user-removable ballhead. You can technically mount the RRS's BH40 on top of that, but that's highly irregular and not recommended.

Q: 3. What is the weight of the tripod without the Sirui B-00 Series Mini Ball Head? Would the bulk of the weight, 2.2 lb / 1 kg, listed on the specs come from the ball head? If so, then accounting for its weight, would I be correct in thinking the tripod legs are about 1.75lbs? The reason I ask is that I don't care much about the included head because I plan on swapping it with a leveling base from Neewer and Manfrotto 502-Ah and wanted to know basically what weight I may be carrying.

A: The head weighs 7.2 ounces. You may want to look at the Sirui T-1204SK. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1420916-REG/sirui_sut1204sk_t_1204sk_carbon_fiber_tripod.html it weighs a little more but it has a higher weight capacity.

Q: 4. Is the a light weight gimbal head that I can use with this tripod? I use a micro four thirds set up.

A: The Benro TSL08CN00 Slim Carbon-Fiber Tripod with Ball Head only supports 8.8 pounds so it would not be recommended for use with a gimbal head.

Q: 5. What is the total weight of the tripod and the ball head?

A: Mine weighed in at 3.01 lbs. The description is misleading as it implies that the system only weighs 2.2 lbs. Even the legs alone weighed 2.4 lbs. The ball head weighed about 0.6 lbs.

Q: 6. Could anyone please confirm the statement I got from the review of other source of this product "My tripod came apart while in use. The threads holding the ballhead mounting plate to the tripod are made of plastic, and they pulled apart.?

A: The threads holding the qr clamp are metal as well as the bottom threads of the ball head.

Q: 7. Does the center column have a hook for hanging a weight?

A: Yes, the center column has a hook.

Q: 8. would like to attach 3/8 threaded fluid head (Manfrotto), will this work?

A: Yes, I did it with the Befree Live video head and it worked great.

Q: 9. Would you recommend this tripod for long-exposure photography using a Nikon D500 with either a 70-200mm Nikkor or a 150-600mm Tamron?

A: Max load is one thing and resistance to vibration and torsion caused by wind and other factors is another. High end tripod manufacturers like Gitzo will tell you that their series 1 traveler tripod is recommended for up to 100mm, max 200mm focal lengths... I think you need something heftier for long exposures in the focal ranges you are mentioning.

Q: 10. i have a peak design capture plate on my camera. Is this tripod compatible with that?

A: Yes! :) Both Peak Design and this tripod use the arca-swiss system.

[Yes] This looks like a great tripod head. Well made, sturdy, small and lightweight.
I converted my REI Hiker Power Lock staff into a monopod using this ballhead and the Op/TECH USA wrist strap. Just unscrew the cork ball covering the camera mount threads, put on the included thread adapter, then wrap the wrist strap connection loop around the screw and screw the tripod head on. This tripod head is light enough not to make the hiking staff not too top heavy like other heads do. I love it.

[44mm (1.73")] I am using this ball head on a monopod with a micro 4/3 camera. I wanted the ability to take vertical photos. A ball head isn't usually the best choice for this (I would use a "L" bracket if I could find one that would work with my camera) but this unit has a bit of drag built into it that enables it to work well for this purpose. Combined with a very low profile, the ability to fit in a Pelican 1520 attached to the monopod, ARCA compatibility and a VERY IMPRESSIVE build quality for me it was the perfect product. This ball head is sold at a very low price point and it even includes with a small pouch for storage. While small it does lock securely and I would trust it with my D610 with a 70-300. (If it goes on back order again, be patient, B&H will ship it when it becomes available.)

[3/8"] Some very nice things about the Sunway: 1) The panning base doesn't slip, even with my 1Ds2 body and 300/4 lens. That's a pleasant surprise, and my biggest pet peeve about some other high-end heads, i.e. the Markins (I use a Q3 on my smaller tripod). The panning lock knob is larger than any other I've seen, all metal with large teeth to grip, and very smooth in its action. 2) The friction/lock knob also works like a charm. As with the panning knob, it's very large and easy to grip, and very smooth to operate. Most often I'll set the friction knob (on any head) to allow the camera and lens to sit still when untouched, but allow movement when I apply some force. This friction level is easy to set on the Sunway, and another big surprise, when I position the camera, let go, and then fully lock the knob, the ball position doesn't shift. This is a nice improvement from the previous Sunway DB-44 I tested last year, which allowed a long lens to pitch slightly forward. 3) This ballhead was delivered with a basic screw-type clamp, with index marks and an easy to see bubble level, but Sunway also makes a very nice lever clamp (which I've used with their DB-44), and a panning clamp I've read good reviews about. I'll guess one can order the XB-44 in any of those configurations.

[1.65 lb] Nice ball head, especially at the price. Can do more than the cheapest Really Right Stuff ball head for much less money. Only fault I could force is that the clamp is not removable. I would recommend it to a friend.

[3/8"] This is a great and affordable ballhead that I use primarily for overhead camera setup. I have this on a C-Stand and Arm Extension and it uses an Arca Swiss mount which I have plenty of. This really is a simple to use and simple to setup. I personally use a Impact Superclamp and Manfrotto 037 Reversible Short Stud, with 3/8 & 1/4-20 Threads, with all 3 combined it creates a sturdy setup which will hold my camera steady and safe. Highly recommended if you need a ball head for overhead camera shots.

[Yes] I needed a low profile ball head to handle a Sony FS7 on a Cinetics Axis Motion Control System and this one has proven very reliable.

[Yes] I bought this to use on my Gitzo G0012 table-top tripod, and could not be more pleased. The ballhead locks the Arca-Swiss compatible plate securely, as does the pano clamp. It has no trouble holding my Sony A7RII and fairy heavy Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. Highly recommended.

[3/8"] I was surprised to read that this little ball head can take 10 pounds of gear.  Its really strong.  Im using it with my Nikon D500 with the
200-500 lens on a Manfrotto monopod.
Yes I would buy it again.
