Q: 1. What is the distance you can cover at f22 as if one is shooting a vista or distant mountain range? How close can one shoot and still be in sharp focus? Are there any specs that do not match what Nikon claims? Where have you found the best price in the USA to buy new?

A: The minimum focus distance is 12.63' (3.85 m). Shooting a landscape at f/22 with that lens you are most likely set to infinity so it will all be in focus. The lens is a very good and the specifications from Nikon are correct. The version lens you clicked on is an import and does not have a Nikon warranty. This is the USA version and it has a Nikon USA warranty, a href= http://bhpho.to/1cnVy7G. target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1cnVy7G./a You can see the prices listed next to the product.

Q: 2. Has this lens ever save you from total embarrassment on show your portfolio day?

A: This lens is very sharp. And in this range and level of lens it is great and if you need the range of 600mm it will do the job very well.

Q: 3. Does this lens requires body af fine tuning?

A: At this time I haven't needed to do any fine tuning. I am using it on a Nikon D750 and a D7000. I anticipate using it on the D500 in the future.

Q: 4. will this lens fit a nikon 40D?

A: The Nikon AF-S 55-200mm lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D40, yes.

Q: 5. Does this lens work on a D 3300 - also what telephoto lens would you recommend for this camera if not this onw

A: The Nikon AF-S VR Zoom 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 is fully compatible with the Nikon D3300.

Q: 6. Does this lens work for a Nikon D7000?

A: The D7000 uses DX lens. When you look at a list of Nikon lenses, those made specifically for the D7000 & the D7001 are designated with a DX as this one does, AF-S DX.....

Q: 7. Is this lens compatible with my Nikon D5200?

A: yes absolutely works fine.have no problem with it.works quite well with the d7000 and d5100.Patrick

Q: 8. Will this work with a D3100? I get mixed compatibility answers on this Lens. Thanks

A: The Nikon AF-S 70-300mm /4.5-5.6G IF-ED Telephoto Zoom Lens is fully compatible with any Nikon DSLR, and any Nikon film SLR that is capable of controlling aperture through the camera body. This being said, this lens will be fully compatible with the D3100 including autofocus.

Q: 9. Besides the difference in weight, would the FL version of this lens be any better than the VR ? Optics would be my only comparison. A tad difference in AF response may not matter much to me.

A: Be careful, BOTH versions have VR. The newest version has updated optics and is lighter. It is the best of both worlds. That is why Nikon discontinued the older version.

Q: 10. If I have never used this large of a lens is it very difficult to learn?

A: I shoot wildlife with this lens and it is tack sharp. That being said, you have to learn and use long lens technique . With any lens of this focal length you need a good heavy tripod to reduce shake. Use a higher shutter speed to help freeze the image and reduce the effect of shake. I will often use a release so that I can frame the photo and then get my hands off of the camera/lens and wait for it to settle down before firing. If the subject is moving this isn't possible so keep that shutter speed up. If you are in high winds try to get beside something so it acts as a wind break for you. The best head for a lens this size is a gimbal type head such as the Wimberly and a Arca Swiss style foot on the lens such as Really Right Stuff. Set up like this it is so perfectly balanced you move it around with one finger and it stays put when you stop moving it. To get this to where the critters are I use a Lowepro backpack designed for up to the 600/4 and a body. Tripod on the side of the bag and a large rear pocket for flash, remote cord, and bracket to put the flash over the lens attached to the gimbal mount not the camera. That way you can rotate from vertical to horizontal and back with out moving the flash.Turn the power on the flash down and use it to just barely kiss the subject and bring out color and detail. I use flash mainly on birds or small animals. I shoot with the D810 but if I need more reach I can mount my D300 as it is a dx sensor with a 1.5x crop factor and I get an effective 900mm with it and still maintain the f4 wide open.

[Neoprene] I bought the small black LensCoat Hoodie for my Olympus 300mm pro lens and it works like a charm. I attached the hoodie to the lens with a string so it is always handy. When I am crashing through the bush I can quickly slip on the LensCoat and know that my lens is protected from stray branches. In the past I carried my lens cap for this purpose but it was hard to put in place and I couldn't immediately tell if the lens cap was on or off or worse I sometimes couldn't find the pocket containing the lens cap. Now I just look down at my lens hood and know my lens is protected by the LensCoat Hoodie. Perfect.

[Neoprene] There is not much to review about a Lens Hood Cover, except that it provides adequate protection, in my case it fits perfectly on the Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens at a reasonable price.
The reason I purchased it is the original Sigma Lens Hood Cover is a constant struggle to remove & put on the lens.
I will only use it when actually going in the field to photograph since it is made of a material therefore not sure if there may be issues with fungus if used as a permanent (long term) replacement for the original plastic Lens Hood cover.

[Neoprene] Once the lens is on my camera, I leave the hood on and use this as my lens cap. Best and easiest way to work.

[Neoprene] I use this little cap to cover my 18-250 Sigma lens on walkabouts. It pops on and off in a jiff, with no need to fiddle and fumble with the lens cap. In fact, I tend to keep it on my D7000 with the 18-250 at all times with the lens hood in place and ready to shoot.

[Neoprene] I really like these instead of using a lens cap. My wide angle has a built in hood so the lens cap is actually two parts - it is a pain to get on and off. These are easy and they stay put plus adds some bump protection for the end of the lens too. Cost a tad more than a cap.

[Neoprene] Fits perfectly on Voigtlander Nokton 10.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Miticro Four Thirds and it solved eternal loose fit problem of plastic lens cover that came off all the time

[Neoprene] I much prefer these hoods over the plastic caps that come with a lens.
