A: Yes, it is. Just manually set your camera's audio to a low setting, and set the mic to a -10 db, and sound check accordingly. The mic records nice, crisp, clean sound, great mic for the price.

A: The Zoom is 35X optical and 4x digital. The optics is equivalent to 24-840mm lens in a 35mm camera. 840mm is one heck of a zoom factor. I would not use the digital zoom as it interpolates between pixels and with 840mm you don't need it. It is a great camera for the price. I purchase one for my wife from B&H. A really neat feature is the ability to transfer the pictures to you smart device (iPhone, iPad or Android device.I have the D800 and my wife just got me the D850 for my birthday.

A: Yes, you can use the VP83 with an extension cable and mount the mic on a boompole or stand. The bottom of the camera shoe mount attached to the shock mount has a 1/4"-20 female thread which you can use to attach the mic to a boompole or stand. You may need to use a thread adapter. Tripods typically have a 1/4"-20 thread, but most boompoles have a 3/8" thread and most microphone stands have a 5/8" thread. For a boompole or stand with a 3/8" male post, you can use the Impact Small 3/8"-16 Female Threaded Adapter to 1/4"-20 Male Threaded Post (B&H # IMCA103) . For a microphone stand with a 5/8" male thread, you can use the CAMVATE 5/8" Female to 1/4"-20 Male Mic Stand Adapter (B&H # CAC0988). A: It's a nice mic but possibly not the best option for your purpose. First, it's a mono mic. It is directional so you will cut out some surrounding noise but if the club forces you to be quite close you you may overemphasize one performer or instrument and if you are further back you may have audience in front of you defeating your purpose. Also, it won't help with audience noise reflecting back from the stage area.Be aware that you will need to turn off IS or risk picking up noise from the IS motors despite the shock mounting. It is very noticeable and distracting if the IS is on on the 24-105 on my 5D3.I now use a Zoom H6 and sync in post. It has flexibility to position it away from the camera but can be hot-shoe mounted and fed straight to the camera as needed. It is stereo with the option to bring in up to four more tracks from a mix-board, etc.

A: FYI it works with 20mm mics (Schoeps CMC6) but rubber insert will prolapse easily - have had a couple of these rendered useless by stagehands forcing KM184s into them. i've never tried vaseline,(!) but i think that may be a joke comment...
