Poised to be the center of a home studio or mobile rig, the Universal Audio Apollo Twin X DUO with Adam A4V Monitorsdesktop 10x6 Thunderbolt 3 audio interface combines the sound, feel, and flow of analog studio recording with powerful DUO Core real-time UAD processing and a hearty bundle of 25 stellar UAD plug-ins.

Furnished with elite-class 24-bit / 192 kHz conversion akin to the popular Apollo X rackmount interfaces, the Apollo Twin X DUO gives musicians, producers, songwriters, and audio engineers the appreciable value of crystal-clear, high-resolution recording and mixing with low distortion (-117 dB) and immense dynamic range (127 dB).

The interface features two XLR-1/4" mic/line combo inputs and a 1/4" Hi-Z input, all with Unison integration for precise UAD emulations of classic analog preamps—impart vintage character of your choosing on microphone and instrument recordings while bypassing the unpredictable nature of old equipment.

Thanks to the switchable low-cut filter, pad, polarity inversion, 48V phantom power, and stereo linking on each analog input, you can efficiently optimize your incoming signals with straightforward buttons on the Apollo Twin X DUO's face. In addition to the two primary analog inputs, you can record up to eight more channels by connecting external preamps with ADAT or S/PDIF optical outputs to the TOSLINK optical input port on the Apollo Twin X DUO.

The built-in DUO Core processing allows you to monitor and record audio using classic analog emulations with near-zero latency and no burden on your computer's CPU. The plug-in bundle included with the Heritage Edition empowers you with 25 top-notch plug-ins ranging from vintage compressor and EQ collections to virtual guitar/bass amps and time-based processors. The included Console application provides control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings including channel-strip presets, drag-and-drop functionality, and dynamically resizable windows.

Mac and Windows drivers ensure compatibility with all major DAWs including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, and more. The interface also integrates seamlessly with LUNA, Universal Audio's free Mac-based, single-window recording system with unlimited track counts and full Audio Units plug-in support.

The Apollo Twin X DUO offers a comprehensive monitor section with talkback functionality and dedicated front-panel controls for Alt Speakers, Dim, and Mono functions, as well as input and output metering capabilities. In addition to the dedicated stereo monitor feed and front-panel headphone output, two 1/4" line outputs are available for connection to a second set of monitors.

At any point, you can increase the power and capability of the Apollo Twin X DUO through integration of qualified Universal Audio hardware. Up to four Apollo interfaces and six total UAD-2 devices can be combined, allowing Thunderbolt users the ability to expand their I/O and DSP without abandoning the Apollo Twin X DUO. The Thunderbolt 3 port is backward-compatible with Thunderbolt 1 and 2 via a qualified adapter (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What rack is most suggested to use with the rack-mountable Blackmagic Design products, or what racks are they using on their website for their catalog?

A: Depends on use and how many items you need to mount. I stay away from carpet coverings because it attracts dirt and pet fur. Gator is a good brand or SKB

Q: 2. Is this compatible with 4K video? If so, does it scale the video to fit the screen?

A: The SDI inputs for this device are HD 3G-SDI. If you want to input 6G 4K video, you should consider this product, the Smartscope Duo 4K. : a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007197-REG/blackmagic_design_hdl_smtwscopeduo4k_smartscope_duo_4k.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007197-REG/blackmagic_design_hdl_smtwscopeduo4k_smartscope_duo_4k.html/a

Q: 3. What is the ethernet on this for?

A: Ethernet is to enable an end-user to drive the system via internet software control.

Q: 4. I travel producing video for events and I have been using smaller tvs for multiview but keep breaking them. Would this unit be sufficent for multiview? I'd use the other output for program or to monitor aux. I'm using an atem tv studio.

Q: 7. Does this allow me to use multiple displays for Da Vinci Resolve? If not what does.

A: These are just SDI monitors. Not clear what you are trying to display. You can extend the Resolve desktop to a second display ifthrough the graphics card.

Q: 8. Does this take 12g sdi?

A: Yes and No. The only difference between 12G 6G or 3G is the bandwidth. for example 12G is capable of up to 4K60p 6G is capable of up to 4K30p and 3G is capable of up to 1080p60p. 12G devices will work with this monitor as long as you send a resolution/frame rate that is supported by the monitor. Here is a list of resolutions/frame rates supported by this monitor: 576i 480i 720p: 50/59.94/60 1080i: 50/59.94/60 1080PsF: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30 1080p: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94/60 DCI 2K: 23.98/24/25

Q: 9. I'm curious about the smart Ethernet control - does that support remote viewing? Thanks

A: The Ethernet connection here is to allow you to remotely adjust monitor via your network. It does not support remote video picture viewing.

Q: 10. I will be using these in SDI mode and I am quite far from the production truck. Do I need reclockers or a set of rattlers to get the signal to reach me?

A: Depends on video standard, distance and cable type. Check the cable specifications for the rated lengths.

[Mute per Master] I bought this for it's thunderbolt connectivity as opposed to the model with usb-C connectivity I had planned on purchasing. It's working phenomenally with no latency issues and I'm loving the recording software, Luna, that is included with the purchase.

[Intel Core i7 ] The sound coming out of these small speakers is surprisingly big, punchy, clear, and detailed. To me, they are as much of a pleasure to listen to than to work on.

[Intel Core i7 ] Works as intended, keeps the monitors well intact.
A heavy solid piece of metal; careful not to drop it on your feet.

[Intel Core i7 ] I bought it for my guitar gig recording at home, but I really enjoy listening my hifi collection on this.
Great sound and bass is very fast and punchy for a 10x25 loft.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Cheers

[2] These sound exactly the way I was hoping they would. I was used to higher end monitors in a commercial studio I used to work for, but have gone through two sets of project studio speakers since then for my own studio. Amazing clarity and imaging. Love them.

[Intel Core i7 ] First off, I am not an audio professional but did my undergrad in recording technology so I have a good amount of experience listening to excellent monitors in well-treated rooms. Previous near-field monitors owned include JBL-4326p, Dynaudio BM5A MkII and JBL LSR-305, with the application mainly being audio for video, casual listening and some audio mixing. Being that I am currently set up in an untreated office (something I hope to change soon) I was apprehensive about trying a 2.1 setup since I know a sub can create all kinds of issues in an untreated environment; however this set still performs very well and absolutely is an improvement over my previous monitors in terms of imaging, dynamics and transient response. At first I was a bit put off by the sound of the A5Xs: they came across a bit sterile and lacking any emotion (they are tools first and foremost, after all). This was a bummer since I hoped to do some casual listening on them, but after giving my ears some time to acclimate I am enjoying them much more now, particularly in the high frequencies... very very detailed without the usual fatigue associated with this level of detail. They really provide a crystal clear cutout of each musical element in play, allowing me to hear deep into the mix. The Sub8 sounded pretty disjointed to me at first, but once I dialed in a decent placement and figured out it needed the phase inverted in my case it blends seamlessly with the A5X (with the crossover and monitor high-pass both set at 85Hz). Overall I am very happy with this set and would gladly recommend it. Can't wait to hear what is possible with some room treatment!

[75 Hz ] I don't use these monitors to record. I use these as computer speakers to listen to music, movie and etc. I hook them up with a DAC and use RCA. The sound is very clean (I hear things in my music that I never heard before!) The high and mid are sweet. The bass is ok. I have all setting on flat and vol on 0dB. I control the vol from the DAC. I like these monitors. I listen to the A7X and it sound better, but didn't fit my budget.

[1x Knob] I wish I would have purchased these monitors years ago. I pulled up several mixes I had done and within minutes of using the A5X's I was able to make changes that had the songs translate so much better across a variety of systems. I tried these "head to head" with the Focal Shape 50 monitors and the A5X's sounded better in my room. These monitors make it much easier to hear where instruments and levels should be placed. There's a surprising amount of tight low end for such a small driver, too. Highly recommended.

[15 W (Maximum)] Built like a tank and with a very clean sound these monitors fit perfectly in my cramped office where I do video production. I was searching for a good set of monitor speakers for video editing and a professional recording engineer recommended the Adam line. I'm not disappointed.
