This 3 x 4" Tiffen 81EF ND Filter 3x4" 3-Stopblends both an amber light-balancing 81EF and a 0.9 neutral density filter. The ND filtration provides a 3-stop exposure reduction for darkening the entire image in order to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The 81EF filtration covers the entire filter plane and lessens the color temperature by 650K, enabling the ability to attain 3200K balance when the prevailing light source is 3850K.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 3 x 4" / 76.2 x 101.6mm.

Q: 3. I can see a bit of threading on the front of the 62mm and 67mm Tiffen VNDs. Can you tell me what the diameter is of each of those? I realize it is not much, but it is there, and I would like to try and use it.

A: Unfortunately the Tiffen VND filters do not have front threads. The front of the filter is larger than the rear threads in order to reduce the risk of vignetting.

A: You almost certainly need a denser filter, or double up on some NDs, unless you have an extremely low ISO. I doubt an ISO of 50 would be enough.

Q: 10. which OP/TECH Hood Hat would fit on the 82mm filter? My 82mm lens is 3.25 inch diameter but the filter has a larger diameter, I think.

A: The small would be fine and would fit nice and tight, but if you want a bit of room, the medium would be better suited since that filter measures about 3.5 in diameter and the medium hood hat is meant for front elements from 3.5"-4".
