The Kingston 16GB IronKey Keypad 200 USB-C 3.2 Flash Drivefrom Kingston 16GB IronKey Keypad 200 USB-C 3.2 Flash Driveis an OS-independent hardware-encrypted USB drive with an alphanumeric keypad for user-friendly PIN access. Built with a capacity of 16GB, it features XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption and is FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified for military-grade security. On the physical level, its circuits are covered by a layer of epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them.

There is also a Multi-PIN option, which lets the keypad be used to create a PIN for admins or users. After ten consecutive failed user login attempts, the drive will lock, and after 10 consecutive failed admin login attempts, Brute Force attack protection will crypto-erase the drive, destroy the data forever, and reset it. Also provided are two levels of Read-Only modes, which can be set depending if you're an admin or a user.

Kingston's IronKey Keypad 200 connects to your host system using a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 interface that delivers read speeds of up to 145 MB/s and write speeds of up to 115 MB/s. It is powered by an internal rechargeable battery.

The KP200 now meets the FIPS 140-3 Level 3 military-grade security specifications published by NIST. This is an enhanced version of the FIPS 140-2 specifications that further enhances the drive's security capabilities and tamper-resistance. It includes XTS-AES 256-bit encryption along with Brute Force and BadUSB attack protection with digitally signed firmware. Its circuitry is covered by a layer of special epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them; this tough epoxy stops attacks against the semiconductor components.

With the KP200 utilizing a rechargeable battery, the keypad can be used to unlock the drive without using any software, and then plug it into any system that supports a USB-C mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems.

Users have the option to set up a User or an Admin/User mode. Admin can be used to restore a User PIN and provide access to the drive should the User PIN be forgotten or if the drive is locked after reaching the maximum of 10 User login attempts.

Both Admin and User can set a session-based Read-Only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. Admin can also set a Global Read-Only mode that sets the drive in Read-Only mode until reset.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this drive USB 2.0 usable, at slower speeds?

A: Since this is usb 3.0 it will work at usb 2.0 speed. No proble,m!

Q: 2. Will the SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro USB 3.0 Flash Drive work with a Mac OS X ?

A: Yes. The biggest problem I have is in transferring large files (i.e., 4GB) between platforms. That's not the drive's fault, though, that's a problem with different software drive formats. You have to format the drive for the kind of system you want to use it with. If you're exclusively using it on Macs, it's way simpler, but if you want to transfer 4GB files between Mac and PC, then you have to make sure that you format the drive appropriately (and I must admit I don't remember the name of the most appropriate file format for such things, I have to look it up each time I have to do it, which isn't often).

Q: 3. Will this work on Linux?

A: The SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive is compatible with Linux so long as you format it in a Linux friendly format.

Q: 4. WILL THE OYEN DIGITAL 2TB DASH PRO USB SSD FLASH DRIVE WORK ON MY PC USB PORT?

A: Yes, this Oyen Digital 2TB Dash Pro USB 3.2 SSD Flash Drive has a USB-A connector and a USB-C adapter to use it with any Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.

Q: 5. Is it configured to appear as a fixed drive or a removable drive...i.e., is it usable as a boot drive?

A: It will appear as a removable disk every time you use it. I made mine bootable and is working fine. No complaints at all.

Q: 6. Is this drive factory pre-formatted in FAT32 or NTFC ?

A: The manufacturer has not provided/published that information but with most drives of this kind, the format will be either FAT32 or exFAT, not NTFS.

Q: 7. What color is the LED activity light?

A: When the thumb drive is plugged in, you have to look directly on the top of the thumb drive to see the blue activity LED. Most thumb drives have the activity LED on the end of the drive to make it easier to see when files are being read or written to the drive. But is is a great product overall.

Q: 8. Will this work well for long (4+ hours) continuous multitrack recording on a laptop? I've had overheating issues with other usb flash drives where the recording will stop after a couple of hours.

A: Flash drives are not really designed for that kind of sustained use. The passive cooling and small surface area are not ideal for heat dissipation for a sustained use as long as 4 hours. My best advice is to get a proper portable SSD drive designed for those types of workflows. Something like the G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C mobile SSD BH #GT0G06052 would be far more suitable thanks to its Aluminum core which will prevent overheating and maintain high performance in sustained workloads.

Q: 9. Power Requirements ??

A: The Oyen Digital 1TB Dash Pro USB 3.2 SSD Flash Drive runs off of USB bus power.

Q: 10. Does this works with Microsoft surface pro 6

A: Yes, this SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive, would be compatible with the Microsoft Surface Pro 6.

[16 GB] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With keypad and encryption, no one can see what you have stored on the drive without knowing the PIN. USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) speed allows for faster data transfers. Simply key in your PIN to unlock the data files on your drive. KP200 utilizes a built-in rechargeable battery that can be used to unlock the drive first without using any software, and then plug it into any device that supports a USB type A mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems.

[16 GB] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This encrypted USB really gives peace of mind. Works for any sensitive content you want to keep safe from prying eyes. It was easy to set up both the user PIN and the admin PIN by following the video's on the brand website. They also provide a walkthrough video that explains the functions of the USB. Take care to remember your passcode, if the wrong admin PIN is entered wrong 10 times all of the data saved on the USB will be permanently deleted. This would be great to use for tax information, sensitive documents, or anything that could be linked to identity theft. Highly recommend!

[Plastic] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed something to backup some tax files and wasn't comfortable using a traditional drive and encrypting it, and well this was the perfect answer to my issue. I love the keypad feature and have successfully backed up the files I wanted offline... securely and easily. Now I have all files off my pc and on this drive safely stored.

[16 GB] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got this to try to secure some files that I was a little uneasy having just sitting on a drive and in one of my cabinets.

This drive seems to be well built and easy to use. First thing I had to do is set up a new password and the directions were very simple to do so. The manuals are stored on the drive so I would suggest to copy them off the drive so you can access them more easily and understand the drive a bit more. It's not really complex to use so anyone should be able to use this drive.
Once I set up the password I was able to use this and move all my sensitive files to this drive and make sure they are very secured. I then tested it by giving my code to my family to access. They were able to gain access so I knew I was good. I was then able to remove the unsecured files off my laptop. I know have a little more peace of mine that my sensitive documents are secured and no one will be able to access them unless I give them the code and the drive.

I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for a little more security for their sensitive files and digital documents.

[Plastic] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this Ironkey encrypted flash drive! It holds a lot of pictures on it and I love that it has a keypad to set up a password so that of you were ever to lose it or it got stolen you would know that your files and pictures are safe because of the keypad password. It’s a good size flash drive too not too small or too large

[16 GB] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Finally this is one way I’m actually confident that keeping my important files safe. Having specific files that I need to transfer between systems not connected to a network, the encryption the iron key provides is something I’m confident in especially with the protection against brute force attacks.
