Q: 1. Blackmagic recommends Samsung T5 for recording to their URSA Mini G2. With its discontinuation, will this version work?

A: The Samsung T5 USB-C SSD drives have been replaced with the T7 shield. We do not recommend the Samsung 2TB T5 EVO USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable SSD. Samsung 4TB T7 Shield Portable SSD (Black) BH #SAMUPE4T0SA

Q: 2. Does this come with any cables?

A: Yes, the Samsung T5 EVO USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable SSD drives do include a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box.

Q: 3. How does this work with a "mid 2014 Macbook Pro 15" Retina"? It has Thunderbolt 2 ports, not sure about the USB port. Speeds?

A: As this LaCie 2TB Portable USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C External SSD v2, is using a USB C connection, it would not connect right into your mid 2014 MacBook Pro. You can get a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Plug that into this hard drive, and then use a Thunderbolt 2 cable from the adapter to your computer. But you would only be getting Thunderbolt 2 speeds.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with Windows 10/11? Does it require formatting?

A: Out of the box, the LaCie 2TB Portable USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C External SSD v2 comes formatted in ExFAT and is compatible with Windows 10 and 11 without needing to be reformatted.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with MacBook Pro?

A: Yes, the Samsung 8TB T5 EVO USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable SSD, (B&H # SAMUPH8TOSAM), is compatible with Apple computers.

Q: 6. Would this be a good substitute for my older T5 1tb that I use currently to edit my videos on FCPX on my MacBook Pro?

A: The Samsung 4TB T5 EVO USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable SSD achieves similar speeds to the T5, so it would be a good substitute. Alternatively there's the Samsung 4TB T7 Shield Portable SSD (Black), B&H # SAMUPE4T0SA, which will provide faster speeds.

Q: 7. Does this (WD 4TB My Passport SSD USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Portable SSD (Gray)) work with Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+?

Q: 8. Would I have to reformat the drive to backup (Time Machine) my MacBook Pro?

A: The Samsung 4TB T5 EVO USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable SSD, B&H # SAMUPH4T0SAM, will require you to reformat the drive to use it with Apple's Time Machine.

Q: 9. I'm hoping to use this as a boot on my late 2015 iMac. Is there a way to connect it to a Thunderbolt 2 port?

A: Unfortunately USB 3.1 is not compatible with Thunderbolt 2, so the LaCie 2TB Portable USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C External SSD v2 cannot work with a Thunderbolt 2 port.

Q: 10. would this SSD have any problem being the bootable drive for my older 2017 iMac? heat? etc

[Aluminum] I needed a small drive for travel and editing of my 8k footage, and this was perfect. Small, fast, and stable.

[6 x 4.7 x 0.9"] The tiny X9 Pro is very fast and remains cold during multiple GBs of photo file transfer. exFAT format for Mac and PC. Sturdy aluminum with rubber base. I find the included cable appropriate and convenient, certainly not a negative. Fast shipping as always.

[6 x 4.7 x 0.9"] Fast and works fine. I have several Crucial drives and they have all been reliable, but I haven't owned these drivers for long enough to Judge reliability. They are used for backup, so not a lot of read/write use.

[6 x 4.7 x 0.9"] I needed another external USB SSD to handle all of the raw image files I need to work on. I use it primarily as a vehicle for taking my raw files on the road and, when I am traveling, as a means for storing those files.

I bought my first Crucial external SSD (the X6 version) for the same purpose and, when I ran out of space (it has a 2 TB capacity), I decided I needed a larger drive that was faster, if that was possible - so I bought my first 4TB XT10 Pro drive. Well, after finding that it's a real screamer and filling that drive with raw files, I decided I needed another one, so here I am, with the second 4TB drive I'm now reviewing.

So, what do I like about my two 4TB X10 drives? They are FAST! And they're compact. With their USB 3.2/C connections, I can have both connected to either my workstation or my laptop at the same time, giving me 8TB of extra capacity, especially important on my laptop, which has only a 1TB internal SSD. And, when I'm out shooting, 50GB of raw files isn't uncommon.

How fast are these drives? Fast enough so I can edit raw files on my 14-core i7 laptop rapidly without a single second of slow performance.

While I'm totally satisfied with my Crucial SSDs, I wish they were larger. Frankly, when those larger drives are available, I'll be buying them.

If anyone is wondering what I'm doing with my 2TB X6 SSD, I'm using it for JPG files. So, when I travel, I carry my three external SSDs with me.

[2 TB] I needed a couple of higher capacity SSDs for backup. The price and review from PetaPixel convinced me to buy these. They are amazingly small and light. I first reformatted them for my mac. They seem fast and reliable so far. I always triplex my backups. I have another SSD that I use for this set. I rated them 5 stars, but that's based on my short time using them and their size, weight, and speed for a 2TB SSD.

[Aluminum] I like this as a backup disk that I can carry in my purse.

[2 TB] Great disk for the price, Mac anyways doesn't support 2x2, so it has the perfect top speed for Mac devices. It's very small, cable is long enough so the disk can lie on the table when laptop is places on the stand. Most importantly it runs way cooler than SanDisk which gives an additional peace of mind.
